Rams trade Adam Carriker to the Washington Redskins; Jason Taylor signs with the Jets
Adam Schefter is reporting that the Rams have traded former first round pick Adam Carriker to the Washington Redskins. Still waiting word on what compensation the Rams got, but as soon as we get that I'll update.
Update: So apparently former first round picks are only worth 5th rounders these days, and in the case of Carriker even less. The Rams and Redskins swapped 5th round picks to get the deal done (the Redskins used their 5th rounder that they got from the Eagles).
This does two things in the draft:
- First, I think it actually improves the odds of the Rams going with Suh instead of Bradford
- I think it's almost 100% sure that Haynesworth gets traded now.

In other news Donovan McNabb is apparently pushing for T.O to join him and T.O is wanting it right back.
Jason Taylor has also joined the Jets. He signed a two year, $13 million deal that could be worth up to $3.75 million in the first year, and the rest depends on his performance.

Obviously voted Suh...
but I have to think that now they think a lot harder about trading that #1 to the Browns. They have a stop-gap in place now with Fred Robbins coming in this offseason, so they might just look for a later round guy to get. DT, and DL in general, is incredibly deep this year.
You may have to even look for them to lower the asking price for the Browns to move up into that #1 now. The 2nd round could leave them with their choice of McCoy, Tebow and maybe even Clausen, and the 3rd could yield Pike or Lefeveur. If they could add an extra 2nd and 3rd (or two 3rds) this year, they might not even ask for a 1st next year and only look to add a 2nd and a late round pick in 2011.
Good point about lowering the asking price
And you’re right about the 2nd round Colt McCoy should be available at the top of the 2nd for the Rams, Tebow might be available. i’ll be surprised if Clausen is still available.

compensation
Adam Schefter reported on his twitter page that St Louis and Washington are swapping 5th round picks. St Louis gives Washington the 5th they got from philly and washington gives their 5th round pick to st louis. adam carriker got the rams to move up their 5th about 20 picks earlier
Wow, maybe Suh is the pick
I’d hate to have Suh in the division. The Rams may not take off to be a winner right away but they could certainly kill our QB, preventing us from being the division winner.
I'd rather not face Suh
here’s hoping the Browns and Rams get a deal done so the Browns can move up and get Bradford.

The Rams will take Bradford
I would bet a lot of money on that (Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of money though…).
Carriker wasn’t any good, although I thought he would fetch a bit more than that. Swapping 5th rounders is giving him away for free.

Actually he didn't
They just swapped 5ths. Ginn got a whole 5th to himself.

Good point
Carriker’s contract is much more expensive than Ginn. I think that was probably the reason he’s value was so low.
It's essentially the same contract
Ginn’s contract
2010—1.03 million
2011—1.39 million
2012—1.8 million
Carriker
2010—1.07 million
2011—1.42 million
Ginn’s intial deal was more expensive—he got 5 years $19 million (14 guaranteed), while Carriker got 5 years $12.8 million (9.4 guaranteed)

Bradford still the pick
I think the rams still go with Bradford, but that this puts them into better position and makes it more likely that they trade out of the first spot
That jayson taylor signining doesn't do '' SQUA-DUSCH '' and everytime i hear espn say no-other
defensive lineman since 2000 has more sacks than him ,yea but tell-us what he’s done in the last few years ,thats just a way 2 make him sound relevant when he’s not .Almost every-other team in the NFL didn’t want him so he comes 2 new york with his tail between his legs 2 a team and city that he hated and i think he still does this is like the don nelson rule let him play or coach so he can break a record then drop him like a hot rock period.

That’s the hilarious part. As though his stats from 2000 to 2006 have anything to do with what type of player he is now. He’ll be a situational pass rusher most likely, nothing more.

I think that's what the Jets got him for
Taylor did record 7 sacks last year, which is more than all but one player on the Jets did.

Bradford
Still the pick IMO.

I think they could go Suh. I thought the fact that they annouced that they would not have a contract with Bradford (or anyone, reallY) before the draft was rather telling. If they wanted Bradford, they could have locked him up. Maybe he’s too rich for their blood…or maybe Suh really does top their board. Couldn’t fault them for going this route.
This is where we hold them! This is where we fight! This is where they die! Remember this day, men, for it will be yours for all time.
OH MY GOD
tough call now – do I change my mock and my picks in the prediction contest, or stay with what I got? AAAAAH!!!! DRAFT!!! CRABTREE!!!!
If you don't like Brandon Medders you're not a true fan.
I don't think that this changes the Rams' likelihood of drafting Bradford at all.
Carriker wasn’t exactly a great player that leaves a gaping hole, and it’s doubtful that the Rams are going to acquire a passer from anywhere else. They still need a franchise QB, and there’s still only one guy in the draft that fits that need and their pick(s) – Sam Bradford.
