Source: 49ers to play Saints September 20 on Monday Night Football
Update: MM tweeting that "an insider not associated with the 49ers" hinted the 49ers would open the season on Monday Night Football. We'll find out in half an hour.
We'll have the schedule in a couple hours, but reports are surfacing with various elements of the schedule already. The most recent comes from WDSU in New Orleans, which has the 49ers reportedly playing the New Orleans Saints on Monday night September 20. This would certainly be a challenging game early on in the schedule. I'm getting pretty excited to see how this schedule breaks down.
The 49ers will get a prime-time game with the Broncos in London, and I'd hope at least one more. I was thinking we might see the Cardinals-49ers in prime-time, but with the retirement of Warner, maybe not so much?

Big challenge for the team so early in the season too
Giving you all the 49ers info you need at the San Francisco 49ers Examiner
That's my site. Check it out!
They come play on our grass...
…and they aren’t as good on grass! Maybe set the tone with a surprise win!
Wait. Is Sep. 20th during Week 1?

Eat Shitake!
probably not
since the champs always kick off the season on thursday night
I think it's Week 2
and NO will have 10 days to prep since they play on a Thursday during Week 1. Thank you Scheduling Gods for letting this team play the defending champs with extra rest in front of everyone.
Win the inning.

Isn’t Alex undefeated in primetime?

I think so
Well deserved too, as we all remember his Montana-esque performance vs Chicago last year…..

I’d expect that the possible MNF game against the Saints wouldn’t be the only primetime game we have. The Redskins had 3 last year I believe. Probably a Sunday Night against the Cards.

As A Team Many Predict
To win the NFC West, I see no reason why we wouldn’t have three primetime games

It would be nice for those of us that live on the east coast....
because we don’t get too many Niners games (without having to mooch off of those with NFL sunday ticket). It would be great to have at least 3 primetime games, and hopefully one won’t be the Eagles so I can see that one too

Agreed
I have to go to a bar every Sunday to watch the game and most of the time I don’t get to hear the commentary. Moving to SoCal in November though. Do they get the 9ers games down there?

Nope
Because of it being considered the L.A market, you will get Raiders or Chargers games on CBS and the national game on FOX. You will only see the Niners if its a primetime game, you go to a bar or you have the NFL Sunday Ticket which is expensive but well worth the price for all games you see
Thanks
I’m super pumped to be able to watch the Raiders…

Looking forward to the thread tonight, there has been a ton of epic ones on this site (the weed, david carr, and romney ones come to mind).
As for the schedule, I’m banking on 3 to 4 primetime games. They are always fun, like the legendary emergence of Jay T O’Cutler last year.

The good: national exposure
The bad: the Saints have dominated us in recent years (31-10 in 2007 and 31-17 in 2008), and will likely do so again.
I am hoping for another Monday night game against the Cardinals, though. Niners/Cards match-ups are almost always close, hard-fought football games, and we’ve given them a good show the last couple times that it has been nationally televised. To have the spotlight in 2010, when we’re supposedly going to be dethroning them as NFC West champs, would be awesome.

Ah but Smith is undefeated in prime time
it will be interesting to see how much the Saints d-line is improved, and what their secondary does to us. I’ll also like the match up of our defense against their offense.

Exposure!
Good early season test. I can’t wait.
Plus, national games = easier to watch :)
"Lord, beer me strength."
YES!!!
I am glad that we got this for multiple reasons. First its early in the season so its a great first test and secondly that it isnt against the Cards. Over the last few years the only Monday Nights we got were versus the Cards and it would be nice to show this up and coming team against one of the elite. But my hope this year that The Niners-Cards game will be a sunday game. I dont think that we’ve had a Sunday Game since ESPN stopped having that package. and the way that NFL has been pumping it up the Sunday Night package is main game of the week and it would nice to have one
Great way to be known.
Cuz if we come out and beat the defending Super Bowl Champs on National tv, everyone will be on alert. and our D will be on showcase, as long as we keep solid pressure on Brees cuz once he gets protection he can get the ball downfield and is dangerous. Hoping to see another Crabtree MNF touchdown.
Game is on my birthday
If this is a home game I know what to ask for! A couple of tickets would be kinda nice too.
4 primetime games
Week 2: Versus The Saints Sept. 20th
Week 5: Versus The Eagles Oct. 10th
Week 12: @ Arizona Nov. 29th
Week 15: @ San Diego Dec. 16th
and Well Week 8: In London versus Denver Oct. 31st
Alex Smith in Prime Time
I keep hearing people say he is undefeated in prime time but I don’t think this is true. Correct me if I’m wrong but his 3rd year here, when he got hurt, didn’t he come back in the middle of the season to play in the MNF game against the Seahawks? The one that we got shut out in…
I only remember this cause it was so horrible to watch, and because I live in KY so I only get to see the niners play when they are on prime time =[
Internet streams
Great for watching games that aren’t available in your area :)
