100 in 100: Derrick Morgan (100 of 100)
0 MORE DAYS UNTIL THE DRAFT... 2010 NFL PRE-DRAFT COVERAGE BEGINS AT 6AM PST TOMORROW MORNING.
Author's note: First and foremost, I just wanted to take a second to thank everyone who read and participated in these articles. It was definitely a pleasure and at times a lot of fun to write. So here you have it, your 100th player in 100 days.
Fooch's Note: I'm putting together a list of all 100 of these posts in alphabetical order. I'll be posting it tomorrow.
Derrick Morgan played nearly every single game in the last three years. He has decided to forego his senior year to enter the NFL Draft this year and is being considered as a potential top-ten pick. He has had an outstanding college career but his best year came in this past season where he racked up 12 sacks and forced 2 fumbles.
As Morgan entered his first season as a true freshman, little did he know he would start 12 out of the 13 games that year. He struggled adjusting a bit but eventually toward the end of the year he settled in. When he entered his sophomore year the coaches had a bit higher expectations and Morgan probably met them as he had 6 sacks and 51 tackles. And as I mention above, his junior year was excellent.
Derrick Morgan has a great opportunity to show what he is made of. Once he gets to the NFL the challenges are going to get much more steep.
Below, we will take a look at some highlights and stats. After that I will provide my final projection.
Here are both some of the ups and downs of Morgan's career. Of course there are hundreds of more plays in his career, but it is a good enough sample size to get a good idea.

SUMMARY AND PROJECTION:
Morgan is more than likely going to be drafted as a 4-3 Defensive End. There are a few teams that are looking at him to be a 3-4 Outside Linebacker. It's going to be very interesting to see how Morgan's fame will translate in to the NFL. He has great range and speed to run down backs from behind if they're moving laterally. He is exceptional in his pass rushing abilities. He does lack a bit of power off the snap. If he is drafted as a 3-4 Outside Linebacker, it's hard to see that he would be the most successful there. I think that Morgan is easily a top 20 pick though. He measured 6'3" and weighed in at 266 LBS.
Possibilities -- 1st Round. Teams: Seattle, Browns, Raiders, Jaguars, Giants, or Titans.

Great Job Drew K!
It was a pleasure to read these every day. It’s nice to have this BG info going into the draft. Hope to see this again next year, and lots more of this type of coverage during the college football regular season.

Wow mission accomplished
Major props to you! I imagine this was not an easy task. I’m sure it took a lot of homework hours. These inspired me to do quite a bit of my own homework too. Thanks very much for all your information!
When the draft is over
Will anyone come back and read these posts to see how Drew did in his predictions?
Should be interesting.
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.
I will do a recap post and Fooch has something planned for tomorrow in regards to putting together a list of all of them.

On Morgan
He’s an intelligent guy with a great amount of talent and very few negatives. I think whether he’s brought into a 4-3 scheme or gets converted into a 3-4 he should be fine. It will just take a little longer to become accustomed to the latter role, but hey if Brandon Graham can do it, I’m certain he can too.
Thanks Drew.
I don’t check out other fan sites, but this has to be one of if not the most well run sites out there. Thanks fooch, drew, smileyman, ninjames, Josh branco.

great work, Drew. That was quite the endeavor. Very good work.
"Lord, beer me strength."
I’m not gonna lie, when it hit about 60, it seemed like there was no end in sight… but there was… and it’s here.
Thanks.
you should write a book on this
and it can be used in place of the AA program. Drew’s “One Day at a Time” program.

Drew, seriously, congratulations on finishing that. When I saw the headline 100 in 100 (1 of 100), I thought the series would go until like #19 and stop, just because people get busy. You’ve done an amazing job with all this, it’s top notch (it has to be one of the best series SB Nation’s football blog sites do). I really appreciate the work you’ve put into this, and I’m sure everyone else does too.
That being said, Derrick Morgan is a great prospect. I’m a little leery on taking first-round picks and converting them to other positions (specifically playing on the D-Line to playing linebacker), but he definitely has the skills to do it.

Thanks Drew
for doing such a great job with this. I’ve really enjoyed this feature and I know I’ll return to it in the weeks, months and even years ahead.
Great stuff.
More kudos to you, Drew
I really appreciated the collection of analysis, prognostication, statistics, and highlight films that you brought with these articles. Nice to have some Niners-centric analysis of these prospects.
Jason Hill is turning the corner!
