NFL Draft 2010: Day 2, Thread 1

First off, if you're new to the site, feel free to register and join in the discussion. It's free and it's easy (that's what she said), and you won't get any junk mail.
If you don't have cable, nfl.com will be streaming the draft live. The 49ers will continue to provide their live cam of the war room.
The new structure means we've only finished one round as we enter this second day of the draft. The 49ers made some noise yesterday with a move up to ensure they landed Anthony Davis, and then doubling up on offensive line help with Mike Iupati at 17. There were a whole host of interesting story lines that developed and will keep our attention throughout this second day. First and foremost is probably the fact that Jimmy Clausen remains on the board. We know the Rams, Lions, and Bucs won't be grabbing him. Do one of them deal away their pick? The Redskins have McNabb, Campbell, and even Colt Brennan, so they might pass on him as well. The Chiefs have Matt Cassel, so could the Seahawks continue their run of draft luck and snag Jimmy Clausen here in round 2? We should find out fairly quickly. Whatever the case, there is some very interesting talent on the board.
As with yesterday, this will be treated like a game thread, which means site decorum rules are turned off. While I don't want to encourage swearing, I understand how the live nature of this can be, particularly since many folks could be drinking heavily depending on how the picks go. While swearing is allowed, personal attacks obviously will not be allowed. If somebody likes a pick and you don't, explain your reasoning and move on.
After the jump I've posted our updated community Big Board. If you're looking for additional draft info, check out our official draft resource. Additionally, make sure and check out SB Nation's continuous coverage of day 2 of the draft.

Come on 49ers!
I’d like to see them trade some WR’s for picks, but I doubt Jason Hill / Brandon Jones / Ziegler will fetch much in the market.

I'm back
what a crazy 1st round. 2 linemen? Tebow to the Broncos? We wasted a 4th round pick to move up two spots??? oh man
If you don't like Brandon Medders you're not a true fan.
How did your plan to miss all draft coverage last night work out for you?
Waiting for Giants and Niners to contend once more.
perfectly
nobody knew what happened and we watched this morning as if it were live. Watching the end of the sharks game now. 5-0. Oh yeah baby.
If you don't like Brandon Medders you're not a true fan.
Sweet, sounds like fun. I would have been terrified one of my a-hole buddies would text me or something like that.
Waiting for Giants and Niners to contend once more.
yeah
everyone here was in the dark, and most of us turned off our phones, so we were pretty safe

potential 2nd rounders
Just for fun, who would we potentially draft that would put someone else on the team out of a job as of 53-man roster cut time?
"If I were to walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, I'd want Ray Brown with me. And if I were to have a nice dinner at a fine restaurant, I'd want Ray Brown with me." The Late Great McKittrick
cause I wonder
if we took a OLB or DL…who get’s cut?
"If I were to walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, I'd want Ray Brown with me. And if I were to have a nice dinner at a fine restaurant, I'd want Ray Brown with me." The Late Great McKittrick

"If I were to walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, I'd want Ray Brown with me. And if I were to have a nice dinner at a fine restaurant, I'd want Ray Brown with me." The Late Great McKittrick
or a WR
Point being, some of the positions we could draft would mean the pick has to come in and push another guy off the roster. If the pick comes in and is just “meh”…we have a conundrum on our hands…
"If I were to walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, I'd want Ray Brown with me. And if I were to have a nice dinner at a fine restaurant, I'd want Ray Brown with me." The Late Great McKittrick
I’d be happy with a WR, but would be surprised to see one taken with 5 or 6 guys semi-set for next year. I’m not counting it out though.
this
we have so many guys we just can’t seem to cut but also don’t get on the field. Jones mainly, but is Hill gonna do something or is Ginn the new #3? We have Crabtree, Morgan, and a bunch of other dudes. I’m not even convinced Morgan is great, but they are high on him and he is tough…
"If I were to walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, I'd want Ray Brown with me. And if I were to have a nice dinner at a fine restaurant, I'd want Ray Brown with me." The Late Great McKittrick
The corner from Wake Forest...Ghee?
If Sergio Kindle is still available, maybe him. Chris Cook from Virginia.
I agree
CB pushes Paymah or Smith off the roster. Kindle though…has to push LaBoy, Brooks, Haralson or Lawson off. We won’t roster 5 OLB’s right?
"If I were to walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, I'd want Ray Brown with me. And if I were to have a nice dinner at a fine restaurant, I'd want Ray Brown with me." The Late Great McKittrick

I’m betting he’s had to practice saying it

We're all Niners here, so I can't get too upset, haha
But you’re wrong. Brian Price was by far the most dominant beastly defensive player in the Pac-10 this year (going up against all those stereotypically strong west coast offenses). Statistically he obliterates the opposition. And quite frankly, he was a steal at the beginning of the second round.
He’s not as good as McCoy, no. But when we all look back at this draft in a few years, he will be a better and more productive pro than any of the other DTs besides McCoy and Suh.
Good for the Bucs.
I would have liked Price as a possible heir apparent to Franklin
But thats just my UCLA bias showing its stripes.
Of course Price's highlights are against Cal
Their offensive line also sucked last season.

They CANNOT sit and wait for the Patriots to pick twice ahead of them. Plus, I think the Pats will trade up into round 2 again to have 3-4 picks within a short span… that’s their style.

He was very glorified here in LA
People made him feel like a god. Hes got alot of ego
listen to him interviews
The guy has a sense of being entitled to everything.
He is a freak of an athlete, but just watch his games. The entire game, not just the highlights. He takes terrible angles, makes hot-headed decisions and simply cannot play smart. He’s a lot of braun with no brain. I see him as a high percentage of being a bust.
49ers Big Board
Here are the top 5 non-offensive linemen:
15. Taylor Mays, S, USC
20. Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
26. Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama
28. Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame
34. Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida
what players?
You won’t find this talent in round 3

Our Big Board - defense
If the 49ers are looking strictly defense, the top 5 on our community big board:
15. Taylor Mays, S, USC
26. Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama
34. Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida
37. Carlos Dunlap, DE/OLB, Florida St.
