Hello Niners Nation. I've been reading all the posts on our quarterback's future in our beloved team's organization and what I'm seeing is that people generally think he is either going to have a pro bowl season or he is going to perform terrible and make the decision to cut him easy. I propose that he doesn't wow anybody with his numbers but he doesn't disappoint either. This is the most likely scenario because despite our Loline being technically a thing of the past, the new line still has not proven anything. In a perfect scenario we will have two rookie starters and a young developing guard in Chilo Rachal. People have been assuming that this group is going to play really well together and our offensive problems will be a thing of the past. I think it will take a few games for them to really mesh well together and become one cohesive unit.
That said, we have some young receivers with solid potential but we don't have anyone who has proven anything besides Gore and VD.
So I guess my question is this: What should we do with our quarterback situation if Alex Smith performs just average or slightly above average? Are we going to go after a top prospect next offseason or are we going to let Alex have another crack at the offense under the same system with our young developing offensive line?
I think Alex has potential but it might not matter. This is a win now league and we've been waiting to have a winning season for the better part of the last decade. If there is a top prospect out there I say we should go after him because you never know when the next Peyton Manning or Philip Rivers is gonna come into the league.
Just my two cents....
