Obviously you can get through to this guy via twitter as @JIntrater did.

I propose that we all get on twitter and show Chester Pitts some love from niner land. Maybe that can change his mind as to signing with us! Think getting him in a niner uni would make all of us happy!

--------

EVERYONE message @chester_pitts on twitter and tell him how much you want him on the niners

The issue is Pitts has to heal before the 49ers will offer the contract. I think he wants to sign with the 49ers but the front office is the hold up.

OH NO !

Marvel Smith all over again. Yea, Lets do it and waste another spot on the roster !

Marvel Smith...

was already at retirement age and had back problems. Back problems are more serious than Pitts’ injury. Besides, it’s not a waste of roster space. If he goes down and goes on IR, his spot opens for another player.

WASTING MONEY???

IF YOU WANT TO WASTE MORE MONEY THEN GO GET HIM!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE 49ERS DRAFT BULAGA AND IUPATI OR POUNCEY IN THE FIRST ROUND BUT THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN EITHER WAY YOU LOOK AT IT. BAAS IS LEAVING AFTER THIS YEAR AND WE NEED A REPLAEMENT RIGHT AWAY IN CASE HE GETS INJURED AS HE USUALLY DOES. WE ARE GOOD AT CENTER POSITION WITH WALLACE THERE BEHIND HEITMAN, BUT THERE IS SO MUCH " DEAD MONEY " ON THE 49ERS ROSTER!!! I COULD REALISTALLY CUT 20 MILLION DOLLARS OFF THERE PAYROLL RIGHT NOW AND WOULD HAVE REPLACED IT WITH SOME FREE AGENTS THAT WOULD COME IN AND MAKE US BETTER RIGHT AWAY!!!!

Comment: Pitts has pretty much become the ironman, on the offensive line, for the Houston Texans as he has started all 16 games for the previous seven years, his whole NFL career. He is the starting right guard and has done a good job of anchoring the line while the staff has tried to find the right combination of players around him. He has excellent size, agility and body control for the position and above average speed when pulling. He is a decent knee bender who works hard to try and leverage his blocks with a good pad level and understands blocking angles as well as hand use. He is not a bulldozer but can hold his own on the line when drive blocking and has the ability to sink his hips to bow up against some of the better bull rushers. He more of a finesse blocker than an overpowering one but he will flash the ability to cave things in with a down block. He is a quality starter who won’t be the weakest link on this offensive line."

Center

This is one area that I think we’ll need to discuss more this offseason, but does having Wallace backing up Heitmann really make us “good at center position” ?

I usually would agree ..been touting wanting him for ages

but unless we go like 13 for Earl Thomas or something I’d be a bit worried about our positioning to get either of the good tackles we need at RT with our 2nd rounder or even the 3rd. Looking like the way the board is laying that Saffold would be gone by our second and Veldheer would be too big a reach for the second and gone by our 3rd. So exterior line trumps interior line would be the counter to that.

by ChesapeakeBay9er on Apr 7, 2010 3:14 PM PDT up reply actions

Possible

Here’s the way I’m thinking with my latest draft head :-)
Pick 13 OT Bulaga if he’s available if not then get OT Anthony Davis
Pick 17 CB Devin McCourty or Kyle Wilson
Pick 49 S Nate Allen or Morgan Burnett
Pick 79 DT/DE Geno Atkins
Pick 113 OG Mitch Petrus
Pick 145 ILB Pat Angerer
Pick 182 RB Deji Karim
Pick 206 WR David Gettis
Pick 224 OLB Adrian Tracy or Dexter Davis or CB David Pender

I’m just worried about being in one of those “da** I just missed on another OT” positions.

by ChesapeakeBay9er on Apr 7, 2010 3:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Then next year ... :-)

We target Jerrell Powe at our NT position, someone like Wisniewski at our OC position and Kai Forbath at Kicker.

by ChesapeakeBay9er on Apr 7, 2010 3:28 PM PDT up reply actions

No to Angerer

He’s nothing special.

Just because the Hawkeyes were on TV a lot more this year doesn’t mean Angerer is actually good.

Remember he played behind a BEAST DL.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Apr 7, 2010 5:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep

Im a huge Iowa fan and even I can agree with this. While he was good at the D-1 level, he was, like you mentioned, behind a very good D-Line. I personally think the best he can do is turn into a Jeff Ulbrich type of player, which isn’t too shabby considering where he will be drafted

he's going to play Ted

he doesn’t have to be special. He has to slam into OL’s and let the other backers do their jobs. He’s a battering ram. Angerer is a tough SOB who will do what you tell him to do. That’s what McKillop didn’t do last year that lost him playing time.

"If I were to walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, I'd want Ray Brown with me. And if I were to have a nice dinner at a fine restaurant, I'd want Ray Brown with me." The Late Great McKittrick

by Tre9er on Apr 8, 2010 6:12 AM PDT up reply actions

McKillop didn't do what he was told to do?

That’s just ridiculous.

Both are the exact same player. They’re great tacklers and can anticipate plays very well. But they lack speed and don’t have the strength to get off multiple blocks.

The TED has to move through blocks on his way to the ball. He does all the dirty work.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

All that says is that McKillop won't be Spikes back-up

We know that already.
That’s why I’m saying Angerer won’t be Spikes back-up either.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

by SportsChicken on Apr 8, 2010 12:41 PM PDT up reply actions

it reinforces why

I think that we should draft someone to be Spikes backup…whether it’s Angerer or some guy off the street. Seriously, what if TK get’s hit by a bus? Wilhelm can hold it down for a while but is he the future?

Chik's point is that Angerer isn't the guy to get for TED...

And we won’t know if Wilhelm will be able to hold it down until he gets a shot. I don’t expect him to beat out Spikes for the starting position, but he might do well once he gets to take over. He was a starter once.

He would be a great addition

Although we would have to invest a high pick on him.

I wouldn’t be opposed to the selection if they trade down to select him in the 1st.

by SportsChicken on Apr 8, 2010 5:30 PM PDT up reply actions

that's what I was thinking

though there are a few teams in the bottom half that need him pretty badly.

when day 1 is done

it’s going to be a frenzy with all the time teams have now to see who’s left that didn’t go in the 1st. Trade ups in the 2nd round will probably be way more active than the 1st.

Wouldn't mind if he wasn't a 1st rounder...

Honestly, for what they’re going to be asked to do on this defense, I don’t think it’s necessary to get another 1st rounder to play next to Willis. I would say a 2nd or 3rd rounder would suffice and would be much more cap friendly. Let’s face it the guy next to him is going to be the highest paid at his position for a long time to come. Spread that money to other areas; like the secondary.

What about Daryl Washington?

I rarely paid attention to him this past year but he was supposedly impressive.

Can he play TED?

Couldn't say....

I’d have to go back and look over film. I know he has a 2nd-3rd round grade, but he does have some flaws in his game. They relate more to a MLB in 4-3 than the TED in 3-4. He would still have to do some work though.

I don't know why not, he was matched up at RT vs GTech and did well.

He won’t require a 1st round selection either. Makes more sense than a high round T to potentially weaken our line for another season, I am not sure about Staley going back to RT.

he did well all year

guys, DE’s switch sides, backers play “over” the strong side, whichever side that may be. Calloway had to block a lot of the same guys Bulaga did, albeit less often, but held his own. If we end up with him in the 3rd he’s worth it.

by SportsChicken on Apr 8, 2010 8:13 AM PDT up reply actions

Calloway...

might make his way into the 2nd depending on how the tackles are coming off the board. And I think he’ll go too high in the 3rd for the Niners to get him at #79. We might have to do some repositioning to be sure we get a tackle somewhat early.

Also, my vote is actually for Calloway to be the guy we target for RT. He’s a good player and we don’t have to reach for a RT.

by 9thevolution on Apr 8, 2010 8:09 AM PDT up reply actions

Who knows?

we haven’t seen enough of Wallace to know.

That’s one of the reasons I like Maurkice Pouncey. He could start at guard and then move to Center when Heitmann hangs up the cleats.

Member of the legendary David Carr thread, 6 March 2010

by smileyman on Apr 7, 2010 2:43 PM PDT up reply actions

So all we have to do is draft Pouncey at # 49, and of course he will still be there for us.

As Bulaga and Spiller will be there for us at # 13 and # 17 ;-)

"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"

by Eastbayjim on Apr 7, 2010 3:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Pouncey won't be there at 49 almost assuredly

He’s gone bottom of first and if not then and if perchance he is in the second I think the Broncos might snap him up. Both OG and OC is a BIG need for them.

by ChesapeakeBay9er on Apr 7, 2010 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Pittsburgh....

could be taking a long look at one of the corners still there at #18. I think we could move back to #22 or 23 and have a real shot at Pouncey.

by 9thevolution on Apr 8, 2010 8:11 AM PDT up reply actions

this

if they don’t trade up for Haden, they’ll be looking hard at the next 2 corners, who will almost certainly be there at 18

"If I were to walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, I'd want Ray Brown with me. And if I were to have a nice dinner at a fine restaurant, I'd want Ray Brown with me." The Late Great McKittrick

by Tre9er on Apr 8, 2010 9:09 AM PDT up reply actions

That would most probably be

Wilson and McCourty and probably one of them will be gone at that Pitt pick.

by ChesapeakeBay9er on Apr 8, 2010 9:49 AM PDT up reply actions

by 18? Depends

if a team is in love with him, they have to take him here because he (Wilson most likely) wont be around by their 2nd round pick.

Hey go comment in my trade down thread and mock up the two scenarios I have!

"If I were to walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, I'd want Ray Brown with me. And if I were to have a nice dinner at a fine restaurant, I'd want Ray Brown with me." The Late Great McKittrick

by Tre9er on Apr 8, 2010 10:08 AM PDT up reply actions

Hopefully...

they won’t have to trade up for Haden since we should be passing on him twice. So in that scenario, Haden to Pitt at #18, Wilson to Houston at #20, McCourty slides to NE at #22 or possibly Philly at #24, and Robinson falls to somewhere in the 2nd. That could mean good things for us getting a corner in the next couple rounds.

You also have to take into account that some teams might view Earl Thomas as a CB rather than a safety. He will likely be the wild card in how the CB class gets picked.

by 9thevolution on Apr 8, 2010 11:19 AM PDT up reply actions

I think he's (ET) gone by 20ish

at the latest. But I agree. He’ll likely go and then the next CB will go right after him, within a few picks.

"If I were to walk down a dark alley in a bad part of town, I'd want Ray Brown with me. And if I were to have a nice dinner at a fine restaurant, I'd want Ray Brown with me." The Late Great McKittrick

by Tre9er on Apr 8, 2010 11:43 AM PDT up reply actions

Gonna depend on who takes him.

There might not be a strong push for DB’s until the 2nd round. Don’t forget CB is generally a weird position where either there’s a huge rush or they just sit there and wait. Beyond Berry, I could easily see a lot of the DB’s with 1st round grades sliding to the 2nd.
