Sebastian Vollmer
It's obvious to everyone here that that niners need to make a move for a solid OT. I believe that Sebastian Vollmer is the ideal player for this team.First of all last year was his rookie year. For those of you who might not know of him, he's the patriots' secondary OT, primarily behind their pro-bowl LT Matt Light. When Light went down mid-season Vollmer stepped in, and in his first game held Dwight Freeney to no sacks, and I believe no tackles. The patriots also have a Nick Kaczur at RT who they locked up last year with an extension. Vollmer would be an expensive back up for the patriots when they could get a decent 2nd or 3rd from us.
He'd be an instant starter and would allow us to make a move for a luxury player in the first round, or possibly an OG that would make our line even better. Most mocks have us taking Anthony Davis from Rutgers and truthfully I would much rather have a proven NFL talent in Vollmer than the 5th best OT in the draft. We could Joe haden and CJ spiller/Taylor Mays/Mike Lupati/Rolando McClain/etc. Although I know most hypothetical trades have little chance it appears that, although the Patriots have not said theyre shopping him, he is available.

offensive linemen
I suppose anything is possible, but I’d be fairly shocked if they made a move with Vollmer. Yes, they traded Hobbs, but he also had 4 years (1 on IR I believe) in the league. This is just Yahoo and Pro Football Weekly trying to stir up something that isn’t there.
LOL
Sebastian Vollmer…. another player the Niners could have selected last year at pick #43.
What was the point of the trade again? At this point, the Niners should be looking for BPA at #13 and #17. Drafting for need could have been accomplished without wasting half of a draft class last year.
Rays in '08.... Desmond Jennings - the breakout continues.....
Again
The trade last season made perfect sense, and I would do it again, no doubt!
In regards to Vollmer; it makes perfect sense that the Pats would look into dealing him, but I cannot see them asking for less than a second and mid round pick. If that is the case I would rather have Jared Gaither, who could be had for a 2nd. If we can somehow acquire Vollmer without giving up a 2nd I would be all for that. Seems highly unprobable though

agree on Gaither
Gaither is more attractive at the price than Vollmer.

If he's good
I dont think there is anyway that the Pats would part with him. They love having that depth and their organization has thrived on it for a long time now.
See..I read that article differently
Seemed to say that they (the Pats) felt he was good enough that they could start him and get rid of Matt Light.

Pats fan here...
…0% chance we’re getting rid of Vollmer. Matt Light has 1 year left on his contract so, if anything, Matt Light most likely isn’t coming back, unless it’s for a discount.
We’ll give you Matt Light for a 3rd, probably! Or Nick Kaczur for a 5th?
Hmm...Nick Kaczur for a 5th.
Might be good. THen pick up Ducasse and play him at guard while learning the OT position.
