I'm On A Mission: My Quest To Obtain a Jeff Ulbrich Autograph

That's right, let me explain. Jeff Ulbrich is easily my most favorite 49er of all time. That's right, of all time. The championship years aren't completely before my time or anything like that, I've seen all of them, I've studied this team, I know more than most fans I know, and I'm not bragging. All of that in mind, Ulbrich has just always been my favorite player. He's a good soldier, was very good for us and did whatever we asked of him. We needed him to start? He started, and actually did well for himself. When we needed him to play special teams? Well he went and became the teams best special teamer for a very long time. I've just always liked him. In Madden, he won MVP several times for me. Madden 2011 will hurt my soul because he won't be in there. And I fear the my window to obtain his autograph may be closing.

When he played for the team I could have possibly gotten something signed if I sent it to the team headquarters, but now that he's joined the Seahawks as an assistant special teams coach, well, I'm not quite sure how to approach things. I know he must have an email. Surely someone within the organization has a way to contact him. I don't want to bother the guy, I'm not suggesting I meet him in person and take up his valuable time or anything, and I'm not assuming that I'm the ONLY person on the planet who likes Ulbrich this much. But my faith is there, I am utterly dedicated to this team and I was dedicated to Ulbrich for at least nine seasons. An interview would be sweet, but the most of what I really, really want is, at the very least, a signed piece of paper with perhaps a small note from my favorite 49er of all time, Jeff Ulbrich.

I will be getting to sending out some emails to everyone I think can help. I will update this fanpost on my progress.. Wish me luck, Niners Nation!

Update: I emailed the 49ers fan info email, but I don't expect a response for that. Fooch gave me an address and suggested I write to it, and then Maiocco confirmed one address I found should definitely yield results, given time. So I'm going to write him a letter today, and see if I can't get something. I will be addressing it to the place that fans generally try and contact players and cheerleaders, except I will be addressing it to Jeff Ulbrich.

Wish me luck!

Update 2: Barrows gave me a phone number to call, and suggested that I put on a deep voice and ask for Ulbrichs' line. He said "that's what I do" which is awesome. I'm writing a letter right now, and if you guys want I'll post what I say in the letter on here.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

FROM GOD?

I'm just not sure how much worse what Vick did than what "Ben" did. Glad he's not a Niner.

No, I think it's a fair assumption

You are definitely the ONLY person on the planet who likes Ulbrich this much…

Maybe his Mom or wife, but other than that you’re it man.

I know what I'm talking about, I started at right guard for the 1992 College Park Falcons.

well I may not like Ulbrich as much as Ninjames

but I did like him a lot. He made the 10 year wall, which is enough reason to be a fan right there. Good luck James, I hope you find a way to get his autograph or better yet an interview.

he's not my fav of all time, but!

he is definately on my top 10 list of favorites.

when i actually started paying serious attention to the game and not just watching it because i liked the team since i was able to walk, one of the 1st players that i noticed was Ulbrich. and the man did serious work on the defense. and i am happy that he played for us for so long.

I love football, but that is just too funny to be angry at. Rugby is truely a harder sport than American Football.

True story...

I actually met Jeff Ulbrich once. He grew up and went to high school in Morgan Hill, where I grew up (I went to high school elsewhere, but I was still living in Morgan Hill). Anyways, a family member of his was teaching some classes one week during the summer at my sister’s dance studio, and he came by to visit one day. No one at the dance studio really knew who he was, but my mom called me at home, told me who was there, and I jetted over. He was just chilling at the dance studio for the dance class to end, so I ended up just chatting with him for a good 15-20 minutes or so on football, the Niners, and this and that. And it was totally chill! He truly is a class act.

And to make this even more relevant to the story (and somewhat depressing), I did get his autograph that day on a Niners hat I had. Then I left for college, but I left my sports memorabilia behind at my parents’ house for safekeeping (some things are best left kept out of a college dorm). Somehow my Ulbrich signed hat got thrown into a pile of hats I had laying around at home during some housecleaning (I had kept it with some signed baseballs I had, planning on grabbing it when I moved somewhere more permanent after college). And then the hats were given to goodwill. I was pretty upset, to say the least.

So, I had an Ulbrich autograph at one point, and it was taken from me. So I say good luck in your quest, and should you succeed, take good care of it! And don’t leave it in the hands of people who don’t know what’s up and may accidentally give it away.

At least I still have a good memory of meeting him…

If I get into contact with him..

…and I can get a hat + something else (I won’t bug him, but if it’s possible), I will give you one of them, sir!

And then God created Saturn.. And he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

Good luck

Any chance you can have him tackle you and post the video on youtube?

For a Merton Hanks autographed bobble-head!

I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice.

Autograph Story

When I was a young, foolish child I was a passionate fan of the Montreal Expos. Tim Wallach, third baseman of the team, was my favourite player by far. I wrote Wallach a letter and sent him my favourite baseball card so he could sign it for me (I used to collect his cards). Little did I know at the time, that Wallach was a [site decoruming] jerk. I did not receive a response to the letter, nor was the card ever returned to me (I would’ve appreciated it back w/o autograph because it was my favourite one).

I know the mailing address I used was successful for getting autographs, because a few years later I sent Felipe Alou a letter and about a week later, Alou sent me an autographed photo. Being the kind sir I was back then, I mailed him a signed card of myself from my house league days (which I’m sure someone got a kick out of).

I have an autographed Patrick Willis helmet that I got for Christmas

It has a CoT and it’s from the NFL Shop so I imagine it’s the real deal. I also have Ken Williard’s autograph, he actually came and spoke at my Elementary School Graduation and I wore a 49er shirt and he made a big deal about it when I went up on stage to get my certificate or whatever and then he signed my program.

Also, I may have the chance to meet Michael Robinson sometime in the next few days. He’s holding a football camp here in Richmond this weekend and my best friend’s new girlfriend is apparently a friend of his so I’m hoping I get to go up to the camp or something and get a chance to meet him and get an autograph.

I will see what I can do

I have a few hats I’m hoping to get signed. If I get the chance to meet him and get some things signed I will drop you an email and see if I can get one out to you or something. I’m also hoping he brings along a few teammates to help him coach his camp. I know Josh Morgan and Ahmad Brooks are from around the area so that would be awesome.

Not the Robinson talk again…. JK any autograph is cool. My favorite is a pic of me and John Taylor that he signed 5 years ago. I almost got a player to beat me up in 94’ Darren Jordan? or something like that got pissed because I cut into a line at a 49er softball game.
