Niners Nation is going across the pond
Yes, indeed, Fooch is going to London! Given the nature of yesterday's World Cup matchup between England and the United States, I figured now is as good a time as any to pass along this news. After some pondering I finally decided to bite the bullet and get a plane ticket to head over and hopefully catch our beloved 49ers in their matchup against the Denver Broncos at Wembley Stadium on October 31. I have some friends in London so even if any ticket options fall through, I've got plenty to keep me otherwise occupied. However, I definitely plan on doing what I can to get into the game, be it through tickets or any potential kind of media credential.
I'll be heading over for a week around the game, so hopefully I'll be able to take part in any pre-game buildup. I wanted to throw this post up so I could get an idea of who might be thinking of heading over for the game, and also, exactly how many London-based readers we've got. I know we have a few, but maybe others have been lurking.
If you're thinking of heading over to London for the game, or you definitely are heading over, I strongly encourage you to get a plane ticket ASAP. I managed a good deal out of SFO to London via Air Canada at $520 roundtrip (stopping in Calgary going and Toronto returning). Obviously going for a week and having fairly flexible dates makes it easier, but there are some decent deals to be had out there. I recommend kayak.com, although I'm sure other folks have other sites they prefer.

i might have a ticket for sale if anyone want to buy it!
I will be happy ...
… to give anyone coming over to the game any hints and tips on where to stay, parts of town to stay in, parts of town to definitely not stay in, etc. And of course if there ends up being a Niners Nation drinks/get together in London (maybe the night before the game?) I’ll definitely come to that.

Stay in Camden
Pretty much the only non-slum part of London where anything criminal can happen is along the Thames at night. The rest of London is under the watchful eagle eye of MI-6

I will be in London...
..for the weekend if theres anything happening the night before the game. Sadly I am not that familiar with the place and cannot help on the London info part :(
$520? That’s incredibly awesome. You didn’t accidentally schedule a flight to London, Ontario, Canada by chance, did you? That seems too affordable for a round-trip flight accross the pond.

I love how folks from California ...
… call Europe ‘across the pond’ even though ‘across the pond’ from the west coast would be Asia. Brilliant that you still think about us in those chummy terms.

although....
The Pacific Ocean is bigger than the Atlantic so I think it’s easier to call the Atlantic a pond!

It is much closer from SFO to London
Than it is from SFO to Hong Kong. Its only a 10 hour flight from SFO to London. And 520 is a good deal but not unprecedented especially this far in advance. I did 500 flat on Priceline a few years ago.

Nope
Although after reading your comment, I did double-check it. When I bought the ticket, I entered in SFO and London-Heathrow. If you haven’t used kayak.com, they provide prices, but then also pop open windows for the various big sites (travelocity, orbitz, etc…). Anyways, on kayak itself the best deal I could find was like $630, and I was gonna go with that. But one of the other windows was for travelocity and as I was closing the different windows I noticed the $520 offer. I think it helps that I’m coming and going midweek. Leaving SFO Wednesday October 27, and coming back Wednesday November 3. Flying mid-week is generally cheaper than around the weekend.

Yah
Travelocity will often beat the sites that Kayak lists prices for. Normally by only a few bucks but a couple of times i’ve saved close to $100

Going but will need 2 tickets...
My girlfriend & I are planning on going, leaving out of SFO mid-week also, but we have yet to secure tickets for the game. We are on the Niners “requested tickets list” but I don’t know how much we can count on that for getting a chance to get tckets… So any help would be appreciated. We will definitely be looking for some Niner activities before the game!!
Great News - FOOCH -True Faithful Fan
Great News, that FOOCH,you will able to make it.l know a lot of fans from that side of the pond are not happy about losing a HOME game, l guess i’ld feel exactly the same.
l believe this is gonna be a great year for 49ers – there’s a lot of fans who’ve been following this great team from the 70’s to 80’s in London.
Hope that we may organise something, maybe have a specific Fanpost linked to this game, giving information on anything concerning the fans,e.t.c. :)
i for one am pround to give up a home game for the sake of spreading the nfl around the world.
after all, the 49ers were the first team to ever lose a game outside the united states.
team pride!

Ticketmaster.co.uk
Have you guys actually physically received your tickets from Ticketmaster UK yet? They show as still processing even though they already charged my CC… Am I gonna have to call internationally to move things along? :(
'Tickets arrive a couple of weeks before the game'
I remember something to that effect when I bought mine
Was this applicable to all tickets? Specifically, to ones that were to be mailed to the US?

Hoping to go
Living in Sweden and I’m a niners addict, hoping to go with my girlfriend, but still looking for decent stadium tickets, if anyone has any tips that would be appreciated!
Hotels
Priceline.com is a very good option for London if you use their bidding system (you won’t know in advance which hotel you get). You can get a 4-star central London hotel for around $80 per night, which is nearly the same price as for a smelly B&B. As long as you are close to the tube, you can get to Wembley easily.
