Name that Stadium: San Francisco 49ers' ________ Stadium?
Initially this great nugget posted by Ninjames made me wonder why this topic has not been discussed in detail as we approach the 8th of June where Santa Clara's voters will hit the polls and vote either yes or no on Measure J. Voters will decide the fate of a much needed New Stadium for this great franchise who is among the storied franchises in sports but have failed to built the facility that it deserves as well as received any type of help in the past or in the future from the NFL (@ 6:25 interview talks about the 49ers stadium) who has prospered in due part to the success of this great franchise in the 80s. But I digress, as the Press Democrat mentions the naming rights to the stadium will be key to the stadium's principle financing. which brings the main objective of this post. Who do you think will have the best chance of naming a new 49er stadium in the bay area.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

i like google or cisco
i voted cisco but either are good because they both wont run out of money any time soon….
but cisco coliseum just sounds cool…google plex? meh….how bout the Google Grid Iron?? hahaha
A man's life is described either by his actions, words, or even the people who he loves and loves him.
Goggle Plex?
Sounds like a movie theater instead of a stadium.
Excuse me.
Google. I hate it when typos produce a different word so the spellchecker won’t catch it.
I agree.... However,
If Cisco, we could call the Niners “The Cisco Kids” (the old farts will understand…)
If Apple, we could nickname it “The Orchard”
After all was said and done, a lot more got said than done.
The Cisco Kid was great,
But his sidekick, Poncho, was better.
'Cause I like clever word play...
A “google” is a number (the # is correctly spelled “googol”), a 1 followed by 100 zeros (10^100). A “GooglePlex” (again correctly spelled “googolplex”) is also a #, a 1 followed by a googol of zeros [10^(10^100)].
In “Cosmos”, Carl Sagan estimated that writing a googolplex in base-10 numerals would be physically impossible, since doing so would require more space than the known universe provides. (ref Wikipedia)
The suffix “plex”, as in an apartment complex, refers to a construction for a particular purpose (“cineplex”, etc).
If Google was to become the corporate sponsor of the new stadium, GooglePlex incorporates their company name with the “plex” suffix, but has another meaning as well, which IMHO would be well received in/near Silicon Valley
After all was said and done, a lot more got said than done.
And because it's different....
Every other team plays is “X” Park or “Y” Stadium, nobody else plays in a “Plex”
After all was said and done, a lot more got said than done.
oops!! "plays in"
After all was said and done, a lot more got said than done.
WOW, head just popped
;-) I think someone below said their main office is already called that so many not the park too?
my brain
just bled out my ears

they would HAVE to play that
if they name it Cisco, even though I know it’s not even spelled the same…

I like the Google name involved... like BJ said they are rich as *#*?
but I want to hear the other votes…. what would be the suggestion on the name??
Google Coliseum
Google Arena
Google Field
Google anything…. GooglePlex is the name of their corporate office so i doubt this will be the name.
Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.
THE BEST NAME EVER IS....
Someone suggested in a previous thread that is should be named “Google Search Field”. Personally, I don’t think you can do any better than that. Thoughts?

I like Google Park
It’ll either be Google or Apple IMO. I can’t see either company passing on the opportunity to have an NFL stadium with their name on it. Maybe we’ll even have a bidding war.
I voted for Apple Field mainly because I’m hoping we can get Paul McCartney to write a song about it. “Apple Field Forever” anyone?
I can't wait for Mango's sig to say "0 days to go".
I like either Cisco Park or Google Park
But also, inside can we name it Walsh Field?
I would really like to name it after Bill Walsh or Eddie Bartalo.
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
The actual field (grass) will likely be named after Bill Walsh
It is in Candlestick.

the best news is
there is a bunch of money available from companies based around here.
they are all terrible
wish it could just stay Candlestick

i'm all for creating new memories
but these names are just horrible. I prefer simple names not tied into products or whatever. Something like Camden Yards is so much nicer then GoDaddy.com Financial Field or some stupid crap.

Bill Walsh Field
at Anchor Steam Stadium
Alaska is a state, dammit! Can I get a Niner game on TV up here?
What would it be short?
So like Candlestick is called the ‘Stick, so would that be called Steam, like I’m off to Steam Stadium. Or going to the Anchor?
the Anchor
I like it.

I really doubt it will be Apple
Cisco is intriguing though.
I heard they have seen an increase in profits recently….
But wouldn’t the name be decided sometime around 2013 or 2014?

Great America Park
And for short, we’ll just call it the GAP.
Also, my friend works at Yahoo, which is less than a mile away from the proposed site. Something Yahoo could work too.

GAP
One slight problem. The company that owns Great America tried to sue the 49ers and Santa Clara over the environmental impact report….

I know
I was half kidding about that. I know that Great America having the naming rights would be very interesting
but the GAP. what a fun name!

Google & Cisco Field
I could imagine a joint funding venture.
I don’t think that at all… and of course this is all speculation on your behalf

Bill Walsh Field
DAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No Brainer here folks!!!
Bill Walsh Field/Stadium
or
William Ernest “Bill” Walsh Field/Stadium
the whole point of this post was to think of who would help with the financing of the new stadium. Though I would also like Bill Walsh to appear in the name… if this was to happen the 49ers would be completely in charge of financing the whole stadium. I believe that the actual grass will be named Bill Walsh Field as mentioned before but the actual stadium name would have to be sponsored by either Google, Apple, Cisco or some other entity willing to help finance the stadium…

Or, if we could get Northern California's biggest industry to sponsor it:
Cannabis Field at California Growers’ Cooperative Stadium.
I know, not family-friendly.
Alaska is a state, dammit! Can I get a Niner game on TV up here?
combine that with the Apple idea
iPot Field…there would be actual Cannabis crops growing around the edges of the field and a retractable dome for greenhouse effect.

"All during film, I'm calling him Bam-Bam, like from 'The Flintstones,' because he hits everything. He is the truth" - Chad Ochocinco on Patrick Willis
this makes sense in so many levels
they say it will be the greenest stadium in the NFL, we want to return to the top of the league and puff puff pass will be the nickname to Ray’s offensive scheme if we continue to see the lack of creativity…
Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect Smith to be super so soon.
Since it will be legal they can have buds growing in the luxery boxes
The short name of the stadium could just be “The Joint”

we could it “Field of Bums.”

(The deodorant) That way, we can legitimately call it “The Stick”
Question
What’s going to happen to Candlestick after the 49ers move out?

Candlestick
If the team moved to Santa Clara, maybe turn it into housing?
by David Fucillo on Jun 5, 2010 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions
Huh.
It doesn’t seem like such a nice piece of “land” though.
Also, this big earthquake we’re talking about: Wouldn’t it destroy the whole Candlestick area?

Above an 8.0
I think you’re looking at that entire area being destroyed without actually adding support to the fill its built on.
