Around the NFL

News updates from around the league:

Vlad Ducasse is apparently close to finalizing a deal with the Jets. If he gets it done he'll be the highest draft pick signed so far.

Chris Simms was arrested on DUI for being high on marijuana. He can say goodbye to Tennessee.

LenDale White has officially been suspended four games for violating the league's drug policy

Speaking of the CFL, they'll be testing for HGH starting in 2011. This could have big implications on CBA talks with the NFL.

Michael Vick had a birthday party and there was a shooting. Lots of conflicting stories about this one. Vick claims he left 15-20 minutes before the shooting, the nightclub owner says he left just 5 minutes before the shooting. The victim was a co-defendant of Vick's and was not on the guest list to Vick's party.

Willie Colon tore his Achilles tendon and is out for the season. The Steelers are pursuing Flozell Adams, but he apparently wants $4 million which is more than the Steelers want to pay. I still think they'll get the deal done.  (You can put thoughts of a Barry Sims trade out of your head.)

Chad Jones (Giants 3rd round pick) was in a serious car accident earlier in the week. He was moved to a NYC hospital on Wednesday. Luckily for him he'd already signed his rookie deal. His goal is to be back on the field in 2011.

Vincent Jackson will be suspended three games by the NFL for violating the personal conduct policy. The NFL hasn't officially announced it and won't until all appeals have been made. Trade rumors involving the Chargers and Jaguars are heating up, with SB Nation's own Bolts from the Blue having a very nice breakdown of where he might go and Big Cat Country reporting that some senior Jaguar executives were in San Diego on Wednesday.

Tim Toone (2010's "Mr. Irrelevant") and the Detroit Lions have reached a 3 year deal. Toone is a WR and a return specialist. His deal

Cedric Benson has been assimilated by the Bengals. He was charged with assault on Tuesday for allegedly punching a bar employee in the face.

Max Hall is impressing the Cardinals. I really wish we had picked him up as a backup. I would not be surprised to see this kid win the starting job over there before the season is done.

Steve Smith breaks his arm playing flag football. He should be back by the start of the season but it was a stupid thing to do.

Lawrence Taylor was indicted on six charges by a grand jury. The charges include rape, endangering a child and patronizing a prostitute.

Pat Williams and Kevin Williams must be well-loved by the Minnesota courts. The courts have again blocked the NFL's request for an expedited hearing in their case, which means that the Wililams' may get to play for yet another year before facing their suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy (the league charged them way back in 2008 on this). It's very possible that Pat Williams will retire before ever serving his suspension.

Tom Lewand (Detroit Lions President) was arrested on DUI charges. He and Scot McCloughan must've been hanging out together.

Pierre Thomas is another player looking for a better contract. He's played for league minimum the last three seasons and his RFA tender is only worth $1.7 million, but he's been the Saint's leading rusher. The Saints have offered him one deal since the Super Bowl but it's not close to what he or his agent want.

Champ Bailey will be a free agent after this season and has not been approached by the Broncos about a new deal. Between him and Dumervil the Broncos will have to shell out some serious cash to keep both of them.

Chris Johnson was seen working out at a Titan's facility. Does this mean his hold-out is coming to an end?
