Another Fantasy Look - 9ers Rank in all but 1 NFL.com Top 20 list
In my previous post about the 49ers getting some fantasy respect, I looked at the fantasy rankings of a number of 49ers. This post is basically an update from NFL.com's fantasy section that shows where we stand in a number of ranking systems.
There really are no surprises here, but I thought it would be good to post a link to the rankings and let everyone see where people stand. After the jump, we get the specifics....
NFL.com is currently publishing 6 categories of its Top 20 list - QB, RB, WR, TE, K, and D (as in overall Defense as a team). The 49ers have players that rank on each of them, except one: kickers. Not sure I agree that Joe Nedney isn't a Top 20 kicker, but this is fantasy and there is more to consider than his strength and accuracy. I see Nedney's lower ranking (#21 in the prior post I made) more as a cautionary vote on Alex Smith and the offense's ability to get Joe in range.
It's also clear to see that certain analysts, while perhaps not anti-9er, are clearly not in step with the mainstream thought when it comes to rating our players. For example, one analyst ranked Vernon Davis #7 while the consensus seemed to be #3. EA sports has a clear difference of opinion throughout the rankings, failing to rank either Alex Smith or Michael Crabtree in the top 20 at all, gving VD his 2nd lowest rating, and tying for Frank Gore's lowest placement at 6.
That said, here are the rankings. EA is EA Sports. Rank is where they ranked overall and Avg is the average position the analyst ranked them at. XX means the player was not rated in the top 20 by that analyst. For the full rankings follow the link above.
Here's the short version:
QB - Alex Smith EA -xx Ellenport-19 Engel-17 Fabiano-18 Rank-19 Avg-18
RB- Frank Gore EA -6 Ellenport-3 Engel-6 Fabiano-5 Rank-4 Avg-5
WR -Michael Crabtree EA -XX Ellenport-17 Engel-XX Fabiano-18 Rank-14 Avg-19
TE - Vernon Davis EA -4 Ellenport-7 Engel-3 Fabiano-3 Rank-2 Avg-3
K - No one rated Joe Nedney in the top 20.
49er D - EA -7 Ellenport-6 Engel-8 Fabiano-8 Rank-6 Avg-6
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

I voted mixed
I think Crabtree is too low and I think our defense should be top 5, otherwise I agree with these rankings. Now I’m going to go delete my cookies and come back and vote “We Been Robbed”.

I think the ratings are generally ok.
I find it comical, however, that people have such little faith in Alex Smith, yet rank Vernon and Crabs so high.
Frank Gore should be #5 behind AP, CJ, MJD, and Rice. Crabtree should probably be around 18-20. Vernon should be top 4. Joe Nedney, who cares. Defense, probably top 6-7 (NYJ, ravens, GB, philly over them for sure)
Dashon, Mays, and Bamm Bamm will get the record for most decapitations in one season

Philly?
I predict that they won’t be able to stop the run this season.
And who’s playing across from Asante Samuel?

UPDATE
Crabtree moves up from 19 to 17… coincidentally (or not) Vincent Jackson falls to 19.
Joe Nedney is still not ranked Top 20, coming in at #25.
Looks like the D fell to #8 though….
Why would the D fall?
makes no sense.
Glad to see Crabtree moving up.
V Jax falls because of his contract dispute/suspension I guess.

Unfortunately....
they don’t give justifications for the moves unless they’re writing a piece on the team, player, or position that involves one of our guys. They do daily mock drafts and I think they are adjusting the teams according to their ADPs in those mock drafts.
Ah
So I guess that just means I can pick the 49ers later. Good for me then.

If that's your strategy...
…then yes. Their D might be a good value pick up later in the average draft.
If you play Individual Defensive Player (IDP) leagues like I do, then the players will be all over the board.
