The Brandon Jones watch is on.
Last years top free agent pick-up had 1 catch, minimal special teams contribution, and barely a mark on the depth chart. In an NFL with no contract guarenteed, this cannot happen again.
So, now that I'm done with my mini-rant, I ask the question, What will happen with Brandon Jones this season? There are 3 possibilities:
1. Fully healthy (hopefully), he steps up and delivers. He shows why the investment was made, and becomes a very good #2/3 reciever.
2. With lingering issues, he struggles through camp, and is released at the end of the pre-season to make room for one of the younger (and cheaper) wideouts in camp.
3. With ScottyMac gone, there is no longer a front office tie and therefore is gone by August. Not likely, but maybe.
What is the opinion on what will happen? Does he stay, or does he go?

Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go there will be trouble…
If I stay there will be double..
So you gotta let me know:
SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO?

He’s gone after training camp, one of the first cuts.
And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
Twitter me and what not.
And I 4th it.
That is a valuable roster slot this season.

He's a goner
I’m hoping Scott Long goes on PS and Williams goes on the roster being slot and return man. Essentially the WR layout that Fooch mentioned in his 53 Roster post. But Long has two things ya gotta love in a WR, size and speed.

Gone
If the FO took a good look at his numbers, I don’t see why they were willing to offer him that kind of money, let alone guaranteed money!

I feel that some of you guys are being a bit tough on Brandon Jones
Last summer, he was having a good camp until he was injured, which ruined his season. He’s got good size (6’1", 212#), good speed (4.38 at his combine 40—compare this to Jerry Rice’s reported 4.6-4.7), good hands, and his Tennessee teammates voted him their Ed Block Courage Award one season (I assume this to be their equivalent of the 49ers most cherished award, the Len Eshmont Award). This is the type of kid I want on my team…
My current projected 53 has 5 WRs: Crabtree, Morgan, Hill, Jones, and Williams, with Bakari Grant and/or Scott Long being PS’d. Waived are Zeigler (I like the kid and hate to waive him, but he has no PS eligibility remaining), Jared Perry, and Ginn (the antithesis of a “courage” award winner—I know, I know, I’m pummeling a deceased equine here, but I’ve had teammates who lacked courage, and when you most need them, they puss out and let you down—not the type of kid I want on my team).
After all was said and done, a lot more got said than done.
maybe a bit rough, but..............
this is the NowFirstLeague. (sorry, that was the first thing that came to me.)
Injuries ruin season’s/careers all the time. He gets a crack at making up for last year, but for the money, his time is NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that his time is now, but some are cutting him without giving him an honest chance
to compete for a job… what I’m saying is let’s get ’em in pads, let ’em compete, and choose those who do the best job all around, including catching, BLOCKING, ST coverage units (which back-up WRs should be on as gunners and such), going for the first down on a 3rd down reception when about to be clobbered, not going out of bounds to avoid the contact a yard short of the first.
Speed is ALL that Ginn brings to the table… it’s not always enough (Ray Norton (9ers 1960), Jimmy Hines (Miami 1969), John Carlos (Philadelphia 1970), Renaldo “Skeets” Nehemiah (9ers ‘82), Darius Heyward Bey come to mind easily, I’m sure that there are MANY more examples). See bio’s below if interested… He has very suspect hands… Miami had demoted him from being their punt returner last season… why was that, if he’s God’s gift to punt returning?
Bio’s:
Ray Norton was the world’s top sprinter from 1958 thru early 1960, setting three world records in the 100y in 1958 and 1960, one in the 100 in 1959, and five in the 200 metres in 1959-60. He was AAU champion in the sprint double in both 1959 and 1960, and NCAA 200 champion in 1959. In 1959, he also won three gold medals at the Pan-American Games (100, 200, 4×100). He then won the 1960 Olympic Trials in both the 100 and 200 and entered Roma as heavy favorite in both sprints. But he performed poorly in Roma, placing sixth in both the 100 and 200, and in the final of the 4×100 relay, he outran the exchange zone, causing the United States team to be disqualified. He had a brief career in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers as a runner and kick returned in 1960-61.
Jimmy Hines made track history at the 1968 AAU when he became the first man to better 10 seconds for 100m. He clocked a windy 9.8 that day in the heats, but had a legal 9.9 in the semis before losing the final to Charlie Greene, both runners recording a windy 10.0. In Mexico, Hines won the gold medal in 9.95 which was a world record for automatic timing. In the relay Hines took the baton in third place, but ran an outstanding anchor leg to give the U.S. a victory and another world record. After the 1968 Olympic season, Hines turned professional and had a brief career in pro football with the Miami Dolphins.
John Carlos had his greatest year in track and field in 1969, equaling the world 100-yard record of 9.1, winning the AAU 220-yard run, and leading San Jose State to its first NCAA championship with victories in the 100 and 220 and as a member of the 4×110-yard relay. He was also the gold medalist at 200 meters at the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and set indoor world bests in the 60-yard dash (5.9) and 220-yard dash (20.2).
During the period from 1978 until he turned to pro football in 1981, Renaldo Nehemiah was the greatest high hurdler on the planet. He was the world record holder, the first athlete to run the high hurdles in under 13 seconds, and probably would have been the 1980 Olympic champion if the U.S. had not boycotted those games. He was the world’s top-ranked high hurdler four straight years, from 1978 through 1981.

There's no way they guarantee Ginn $14 mil to cut him in camp
They have to at least see what he can do during the regular season. Get at least a little bit of their money’s worth. Jones still deserves a good look in light of what he’s been paid so far. But He needs to show a lot in camp to continue to get the love he’s been receiving from the FO.

Huh?
They’re not guaranteeing Ginn $14 million. The Niners are only responsible for his 2010 salary which is $1.035 million.
The Dolphins paid Ginn the $14 million guaranteed.

Oh yeah you're right!
Dangit I keep looking at his salary on rotoworld and forgetting that was his contract when he was still with Miami. My bad. But I still think he will be more productive and cheaper than Jones.

Jones is owed something like $2 million this year
so yeah Ginn is cheaper than Jones

He already made a lot more last year though

Ginn
We are getting ahead of ourselves here—-Ginn has a lot to offer if he can play to his college level. I would also point out that he is now the oldest veteran WR in terms of years of NFL experience (and age?) on the 49ers roster. Let’s give him a chance to show us what he can do here before we accuse him of incompetence or cowardice.
I believe that Brandon Jones has the potential to take over for Josh Morgan
It’s whether or not he’ll be given the opportunity in regards to make or break him. I think he has T.O. type potential (without the attitude issues).
"I'm blessed..... Thanks, God bless" ...hey, it worked for Tim Tebow.
What makes you think that?
I never saw anything too special from him when he was in TEN.
He was fast and was a good deep threat, Nate Washington is similar.

I like Brandon Jones
but even more so, I’m on the Jason Hill bandwagon.
I think both are superior receivers to Josh Morgan.
I hope the Niners make a couple early decisions and cut one or two guys early, or trade them if they can. The Niners receiving depth is superior to many teams, especially receiver number 5, 6, and 7. I’d like to see them pare the group down and concentrate the reps among the top 4 or 5 guys, so that a clear #2 and #3 can emerge.
For my money, Crabtree is number 1, # 2 is a tossup between Jones, Hill and Morgan, (I like Hill) and then you go from there.
I think Jones has trade value, and the Niners should consider letting his agent shop him around, because other teams were reported to be interested in him when he came to the Niners.
They're called RUNS for a reason.
I'd like Jones and Hill to get most of the reps during pre-season

I like the thuoght...
… that whom ever is gone still leaves us with a good deal of talent
