Week 1 Pre-Season matchups/discussion thread
For those few of us actually watching pre-season games I thought it would be nice to have one spot where we could sit and chat about what's going and our impressions of the players and teams. Here's the schedule for this week and my impressions of what I've seen so far.
Sun, Aug 08 (Hall of Fame Game)
Dallas 16, Cincinatti 7
Sloppy play marked this game. The Cowboys offensive line looked really bad, leaking like a sieve. T.O. was getting lots of looks from the Bengals QB. For those interested J.T. O'Sullivan was 4/11 for 33 yards and 1 INT.
Thur, Aug 12
New Orleans 24, New England 27
I felt that the Saints' D-line was still having issues during this game. Other than that I don't have much to say about this one.
Carolina 12, Baltimore 7
Didn't watch this one, though I will.
Oakland 17, Dallas 9
Didn't watch this one either
Friday, Aug 13
Washington 42, Buffalo 17
It's going to be a loooong season for the Bills. I'll be surprised if they make it to 4 wins as bad as they looked. Inept on offense (why in the world is Trent Edwards starting over Ryan Fitzpatrick?) and inept on defense. Joique Bell looked good for them. Spiller saw limited action and didn't really stand out.
I thought Haynesworth really rocked it as a NT, for what he played. Can he keep it up for a full game and season? Who knows, but he was impressive. The 'Skins offensive line was good too--good pass protection and great run blocking.
Philadelphia 28, Jacksonville 27
Kolb looked ok but the stars this game were the backups. Vick played very well, making smart decisions and good throws. Luke McCown looked very good, so that's got to give the Jaguars hope for their future.
Atlanta 20, Kansas City 10
I didn't watch this game.
Sat Aug 14
TB @ MIA
Det @ PIT (I"m really looking forward to this one to see how Detroit has improved over the off-season)
CLE @ GB (I'll be keeping an eye on Bulaga)
Hous @ AZ
Minn @ STL
CHI @ SD (Merriman won't play this week, but he'll be there next week)
TEN @ SEA (Expect Leon Washington to be the work horse. Maybe we can steal Forsett from the 'Hawks since they really don't seem to like the guy).
Sun Aug 15
SF @ IND
DEN @ CIN
Mon Aug 16
NYG @ NYG (Of course this has to be the opening MNF game of the pre-season. They've got to break in the new stadium in style).

My recap of the Raiders game is right here.
I expect everyone on Niners Nation for the 49ers game on Sunday. I want the game thread to fill up. I’ll be watching the Lions game later today.
And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
Twitter me and what not.
Freeman's looking pretty good in the slop
The Bucs O-line looks improved from last year.

Lots of false start and holding penalties this game
wonder if it’s just rustiness or also the umpire being in the backfield where he can see better

I can't watch any of those games
I don’t have NFLN
What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

I watched a little of the Houston/Arizona game
what I did see, Houston’s first offense/defense looks pretty darn good. It’s only preseason and Andre Johnson is already making DBs look silly.
The Cardinals were up and down. I was not able to see much of Leinart or the offense, but Leinart was described as being pretty accurate even though he was sacked twice. They made some great plays on the goal-line and had pretty good run defense, but Matt Schaub could have picked them apart if he continued to play. Cardinals also have some young players on the second team defense show some potential.

John Skelton supposedly looked very good.

Somebody needs to tell the Giants and Jets that it's the pre-season
Logic merely enables one to be wrong with authority
True
but for all the blitzing that the Jets did tonight, they did not register a sack or turnover. There something to be said about knowing when to blitz. That is why I was always impressed with Jim Johnson’s defenses because no matter who he had, his blitzes worked.

Someone needs to rethink this
