San Francisco 49ers vs Minnesota Vikings: A Preseason Prospector's Guide
And we're back for another week of preseason action. This week the 49ers host the Minnesota Vikings in the Sunday Night NBC game of the week. The good news is that the 49ers will get some national coverage. The bad news is we're going to be absolutely inundated with crap about Brett Favre. I'm actually leaning towards watching the television with the sound on mute and turning on the radio for the game. Or, if I do have the NBC crew on, I had an idea: we need a contest for the amount of separate times Brett Favre is mentioned. So, not necessarily each time his name comes up, but rather, the number of separate discussions during the game revolving around Favre. At the very least it'll make for one heck of a drinking game!
This game marks the first time since 2004 the 49ers and Vikings will face each other in the preseason and will be the sixth time overall. The Niners will look to even the overall preseason series at three games apiece and improve Coach Singletary's preseason record to 5-1.
This will be the first preseason matchup between the two teams in San Francisco, with the first four games all played at neutral sites (Portland - 1961 & 1963; Seattle- 1962; Salt Lake City - 1964). Since 1960 the Niners are 7-5 against teams from the NFC North during pre-season play and have not faced their Northern rivals since the 2008 preseason matchup against the Packers, when San Francisco won 34-6.
The 49ers are coming off a 37-17 victory against Indianapolis to remain 3-0all-time vs. the Colts in preseason play. Rookie RB Anthony Dixon rushed for 100 yards in the contest to become just the third 49ers running back (Glen Coffee 2009, Jamal Robertson 2002) to accomplish the feat in a preseason game, dating back to 2002. Coffee and Robertson's performances show you how valuable preseason rushing totals can be. Let's hope for a change with Anthony Dixon.

I didn't know there are so many preseason stats
Looking forward to see how different the 49ers will play in game 1 compared to game 2!
I don’t care about the Favre talk, oh well I’ll just be watching the game to see how the team plays, not what announcers are gonna be saying about the players. Listening to the radio is a good idea (but in that case would miss the drinking game, and in other words getting really drunk with this one).
I’m not sure your drinking game will work. I predict there will only be one conversation about Favre – it will start about an hour before kickoff and continue for the next 4 hours…

That’s my plan. If I feel like giving myself the true NBC experience while watching the game on mute, I’ll just have my roommate run into my room and yell “BRETTFAVREBRETTFAVREBRETTFAVRE!!!” on occasion.

Is there an over/under on the Brett Favre mentions?
I imagine there has to be odds on his return in Vegas. This guy gets as much press as the President. I’d rather talk about Westbrook though. Maybe Jesus took away Glen Coffee to make room for him. The Lord works in mysterious ways. Maybe Jesus will also tell Brett Favre to return so he can get a much desrved whipping by us in the post-season. Just kidding of course, I do have respect for coach’s religious views. This Westbrook addition seems to me a gift from God himself if everything goes the way I envision it could be.
If there is a drinking game
For every time Favre’s situation is discussed, it’s best to have your DVR’s set (in case they weren’t already) since you’ll probably be missing most of the 2nd half.
theory
Mike Singletary talks to god. Glen Coffee talks to God. Brian Westbrook talks to God.
Mike Singletary : God, I want to our team to go to the Super Bowl. I want winners!!!
God: I’ll see what I can do.
-——————————————————————————-
Glen Coffee: God, I really don’t like football. I want to go back to school and get a masters!
God: I’ll see what I can do.
-——————————————————————————-
Brian Westbrook: God, it’s me, Brian. I want to prove everyone wrong! I can still play and those concussions were a fluke. I know there must be some perfect situation for me.
God:Hey, Brian. I’ll see what I can do.
-———————————————————————————-
Coincidence? uhh, probably.

So Raye says from press conference today:
Anthony Dixon and Nate Davis will get in the game earlier in preseason to get them reps against real NFL players.Good strategy, something we’ve been clamoring for.

Favre drinking game?
I’ll start thinking about it. Telling you now, there is no way I could design this without the liver taking a severe beating Sunday night. I’m expecting Favre talk to reach unprecedented heights Sunday (wow, now that’s a statement!!!). Maybe the only way to avoid getting tanked is to take a shot every time they don’t mention him.
lol good one..
I’m going to take 4 shots every time they show last years week 3 highlights just so I can use 4 to forget about 4 lol
The F Word
Never mind how many times they mention his name, his plans, his boyish love of the game (I’m already throwing up in my mouth at the thought of it…) -
How many times are they going to show that TD throw into the end zone from last year’s game… ? my wife, who was upstairs while I was watching the game, still says she thought somebody was murdering me based on the way I was yelling…
I would like to take this moment...
to send a big thank you to the lord above and to Niners Nation for providing my fellow Niners fans and myself, a place to read sports news without the forever hated "F’ word being mentioned in every other phrase (of course excluding this post about our game against “it” lol)
take a drink every time they say brett favre. i’ll probably go through 20 beers
Um, how am i supposed to sign this thing? It's a computer?!
oh, you're just talking about the pre-game
nevermind
Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree, Tedd Ginn/Delanie Walker, Frank Gore, Brian Westbrook...which one is getting the ball and where?

That ain't fair
What did the kittens do to deserve it??
I do agree though, the man is just as much a prima donna as any other in the league. His career as a player is close to over, you’d think he’d want to go out with some respectability.

I am so tired of how much of an attention whore he is.
Don’t worry, my roommate is allergic to cats. I can’t get a hold of any. Kittens are safe…
Hehehe Same here, my wife is deathly allergic to them. Cats are no problem though. j/k

What sucks is that I love cats/animals in general. The only pet you can have in my apartment complex is a cat, so I feel all animal lonely. I should just stab my roommate after every Favre mention. That’s the ticket.
hahaha
I should have done that to my roommate back in the mid-90’s. He got a dog without really getting any input from me, and then never housetrained it! I would come home dodging a carpet mine every few feet.
