Here’s how my final 53 looks prior to the Niners’ Sunday game against the Raiders:
I’ve listed the totals at the position and compare the totals with the average number of players the Niners have kept at the position since 2003 (hat tip to Mike Sando’s roided out rosters)QB: Smith, Carr, Davis (3) (vs. avg 3)
HB: Gore, Westbrook, Dixon, M. Robinson
FB: Norris (5 RBs) (vs. avg 5)
TE: Davis, Walker, Byham (3 TEs) (vs. avg 3)
WR: Crabtree, Morgan, Ginn, Ziegler, K. Williams (5 WRs) (vs. avg 6)
LT: Staley, Boone
LG: Iupati, Baas
C: Heitmann
RG: Rachal, Wragge
RT: Davis, Snyder (9 OLs) (vs. avg 9)
LDE: Sopoaga, McDonald
NT: Franklin, RJF
RDE: J. Smith, Evans (6 DL) (vs. avg 7)
LOLB: Lawson, Brooks
TedLB: Spikes, Bowman
MikeLB: Willis, Wilhelm
ROLB: Haralson, LaBoy, Briggs (9 LBs) (vs. avg 7)
LCB: Clements, Brown, Paymah
SS: Lewis, Mays, C. Taylor
FS: Goldson, R. Smith
RCB: Spencer, W. James (10 DBs) (vs. avg 10)
ST: Brian Jennings, Lee, Nedney (3 STs) (vs. avg 3)
Last 5 off:
B. Sims, Caulcrick (PS), P. Adams (PS), J. Hill, K. Mitchell (PS)
Last 5 on:
C. Taylor, one of Briggs/LaBoy, W. James, Dixon, Wilhelm
The obvious anomaly is the high number of Linebackers, but that seems justified to me since basically all of the OLBs also drop down to play as DEs on passing downs, and because the team probably wouldn’t want to expose Briggs or LaBoy to waiver claims given that the team may not have Lawson beyond next year.
Let me know what you think!
