Raiders 21 - 49ers 20: Open Thread #3

49ers_logo_medium @   Raiders_logo_medium

This has been an incredibly sloppy game as the teams have combined for 14 penalties. It's been a fairly vanilla performance on both sides of the ball, which likely has to do with this being the preseason and the fact that these teams will square off in the regular season. Alex Smith had a solid first half while David Carr has been less than stellar in relief.

The defense has been up and down against the Raiders offense. They've had plenty of impressive stops, but they've also given up two touchdown drives of 70+ yards. Of course, with neither team mixing in anything too crazy, I'm not wildly concerned about it. I'd like to think the 49ers defense will answer the bell week one.

GO NINERS!

Hey Fooch you around?

I know you’re a boxing fan so here’s what happened in the Toney-Couture fight.

Couture went for a very light takedown, Toney fell down, Couture got to mount (the most dominant ground position for strikes) then Couture choked him out. Toney tapped.

And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

Bad Left Book had an open thread. Least surprising thing ever.

by David Fucillo on Aug 28, 2010 8:55 PM PDT up reply actions

I at least expected a semi-sprawl to defend the takedown.

It was a very defendable takedown, even for someone with no training at all. Toney just fell over. It was a single leg, going for the right ankle, and Toney fell before Couture even wrapped a hand around it.

And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
