First of all, this is my first fan shot so take it easy on me. I've been a Niners fan since the glory days in the 80's and I'll be a Niners fan till the day I die. What I saw today was atrocious. I can't even express how I feel after the buildup I've had on the off-season. I was really, as a lot of you will agree, expecting a domination today. Instead, the domination was on the wrong side of the field today.
The 49ers that we expected to show up today stayed home. I think the only players on this team that even deserve mentioning are the two that got contracts over the offseason and Andy Lee. Our secondary was exposed as expected but it was much worse than I had anticipated. Our running game was shut down and our offense plain out STUNK. As I type this, I have NFL Network literally laughing at the 49ers and their performance today. What really burned me today was seeing Pete Carroll on the sidelines living this victory up. I hate this man will all of my being and I personally think he is a horrible PRO FOOTBALL coach. I will be looking forward to him losing many games this year, especially after today.
LondonNiner gave me a pick me up today with a comment he left after watching what the 49ers displayed today. I left the sports bar in the 4th quarter and was fed up with what I saw. This was the 1st game of the year and we have 15 more games to look forward to. Today taught the Niners a lesson. It taught them that they are not perfect, that they are not a shoe in to win the division, and that they NEED to work to succeed this year. I personally feel that they underestimated the Seahawks today and I can say that I did as well. With that said, we can learn from this loss and only get better from it. In a sense, it's good to get this first loss out of the way and learn from it rather than win a few and lose. It just sucks that we have to face the defending Super Bowl champs for our next game. That being said, I will still be saying that the 49ers will win that game and I will still say they will win the division. Call me a "homer" if you will (which you should) but I'm never giving up on my Niners. I've been there through thick and thin. I became a fan in the 80's because my dad rooted for them and I've been a fan since. I don't jump on bandwagons and I've always sported my 49ers gear even during the horrible seasons. I was at the bar tonight and someone asked me how I could still bear to wear my 49ers jersey after the beatdown they got today. I told him 49ER FAITHFULL and that I will always be proud to wear red and gold.
With all that said, I'm still proud to be a 49ers fan, I'll still root for them every week, I'll still pick them to win every week in my work football pool, and I still think they will win the division and go to the playoffs. I'm in the mindset that they underestimated the Seahawks and got cocky. Next week will be tough against the Saints, especially after seeing how vulnerable the 49ers secondary is, but I guarantee you I will still be there cheering them on and betting that they will win the game.
Last two things I have to say is that, yes, I'm still intoxicated and the Lions were robbed of a win.
