If this was an elaborate plan to throw the Saints off track in Week 2!!!
Suffice to say I was quite pleased with the opening 25 mins of our game in Seattle... the 49er defensive unit came out swinging, an INT on the 1st play from scrimmage followed up by two 3 and outs, halfway through the 2nd quarter the Seahawks had 7 plays for 11 yards and a turnover, all is well on that side of the ball!!! Now our offense at the start of the game looked better than it did all last year, after the 49ers got the ball back thanks to Nate Clements the offense went right to work, however failed to capitilize with a TD due to a great forceout by the Seahawks db, I have seen several bloggers fault Josh Morgan and Alex Smith for what I dont know the pass was there, the catch was made and if you look closely his left foot did come down in bounds, he already had the right down, but do to the tremendous effort of the Seahawks db his body had landed out before the left foot landed in...result a FG off a turnover to start the game, Im fine with that! The next 2 drives again the offense was up and down the field inside the 10 before we knew it all is well in San Fran land, however a simple overthrow or maybe Norris just said "hey Im wide open so ill stop runnin" on a perfectly designed 4 and 1 play negated that scoring opportunity, and then the following drive 4th and goal on the 1 and a delay of game penalty later and on comes Nedney to give us only a 6-0 lead, whereas it should have been 21-0 if not then 17-0. After that we fell apart and the rest is history...outcome another year same old 49ers.
But what if it was intentional, Im sure it wasnt but for arguments sake lets say it was, both the offense and defense dominated at first, then at the same time completely fell apart as if a blackhole sucked the lifeforce out of our beloved 49ers players and coaching staff leaving all of us who bleed gold, as well as red, shocked and bewildered and wondering if this is just the beginning of another year without a playoff berth. It seemed rather impossible in my mind that this game ended up so lopsided that I had to write this blog, because I got news for ya...We Are Not the Same Ol' 49ers! The players are smarter, faster, and overall more talented than years in recent past with a coaching staff poised to make the players better than they ever thought they could be! Even if we did just get killed in week 1 it was a fluke and I honestly like our chances against the Superbowl Champion Saints this Monday at home especially if we lost by design (Relax, I know we didn't!) But mark my words if you think our week 1 debachle against the Suckhawks is a marker of how we will far this season, before you jump off that cliff remember this...6 playoff teams from last year lost in week 1, thats half of playoff teams overall for all you math majors out there, including the Vikings and the Colts. Oh yeah, and only 3 teams won on the road in week 1 and we for all intense purposes drew the loudest outdoor stadium in the league to open our season at, and besides the playoffs, homefield advantage comes into play most in week 1...Its Science!!! Now im not making excuses, Im surprisingly optimistic about our chances against the Saints Monday night, because if Im scratchin my head sayin "WTF happened to the 49ers in week 1, FML!!!" You can bet the Saints are sayin the same, well except for the "FML" part...probably!!! And if you think we did simply get our collective butts kicked by those dam dirtybirds from Seattle, then lesson learned homefield comes into play and on Any Given Sunday any team can win!!! GO 49ERS!!!
