Optimistic Post
Yeah, I know, we got our butts whooped today, and there's nothing positive you can take from this game(except for the fact that andy lee can tackle), but every single new post i've read has been pretty depressing(except the anthony davis and "he felt me", that was hilarious). Can we have just a little bit of optimism? Sure, we're 0-3 right now, but we don't have a crappy team where it's like oh its expected, but we have major talent on this team, and our guys, i believe, will fight back from this. At some point in this season, like Patrick Willis said(but not in these exact terms), we will put together a winning streak, who knows maybe it will start next sunday? Our defense had one bad game, and that's practically the reason we lost, and of course our o-line. The Falcons are not going to overlook us, and who's to say the Eagles are amazing, we play well in primetime, and Michael Vick(though he's my favorite player), hasn't had much success against us.
Let's look at the schedule
@ Atlanta
VS Philadelphia
VS Oakland
@ Carolina
VS Denver
Bye
VS St. Louis
VS Tampa Bay
@ Arizona (ESPN)
@ Green Bay
VS Seattle
@ San Diego (NFLN)
@ St. Louis
VS Arizona
All of those are winnable games(yes i realize kansas city and seattle, as well as new orleans, were all winnable games) except for the green bay game, though we don't know the state of our team by that game. If we can get to at least 3-4, 4-4 by the bye week, which is EXTREMELY possible, there is hope, and then 2 home games versus mediocre teams will have us ready for 2 crucial games on the road. Who knows, by the Green Bay game, we could be 7-4 or 6-5. We're better than all but 3 teams on that schedule, so we cannot give up. Jimmy Raye has me depressed, as well as the o-line, but this team is too talented and has too much heart to give up. So rise up Faithful, and keep the Faith. Bring on the haters!

I think there is being optomistic and there is being realistic
I think your optimism is a good thing, perhaps, but how much longer are people going to keep saying that this team has such talent, or as you put it “major talent.” Because I would argue that a team with “major talent” could stand to win a meaningful ballgame every once in a while, at least.
Label me a realist. This team sucks, to put it simply. And I am left wondering how the heck will the Niners manage to screw up next week. Okay, so I’m really a pessimist.
If they don’t switch OC’s then we are going to have a very good 1st round pick

You are 100% correct....
This team has “some” talent at certain positions. However, we have absolutley no leadership in the front office or on the sidelines. No one to not only foster the talent, but continue to add to it. We have a terrible QB and the need continues to be ignored in both the draft and FA market. And last, we have very little depth on this team. We don’t have a 1-2 punch at any of the skilled positions. None of this will change until the Yorks go.

That's a good point
The Niners have absolutely no depth. Can you imagine if Gore or Willis went down with an injury? the Niners would actually end the game with negative points if that disastrous scenario came to fruition. I don’t know what the answer is for this team. It seems the Yorks are fairly loose with the purse strings (which is good), so if they keep supplying the dough, I can’t complain about that, that’s better than a meddling Jerry Jones or Al Davis in my opinion. I think perhaps we need to sweet talk Bill Parcells into quiting his gig with the Dolphins and come help us out.
How does everybody see the rest of the season going?
I see Atlanta, Philadelphia, Denver, Green Bay, and San Diego as automatic losses right now.
Assuming they win out the rest of the schedule, that’s an 8-8 record. And that’s a heck of an assumption.
I will be thrilled with 9-7 this year. At this point, though, I won’t be surprised by anything worse than that. This team is manic-depressive, and the manic side is going to have to show up a lot if this season is going to get back on track. considering the next two games are against such brutal opponents.

You never know - I think this season will be simply unpredictable.
The seacocks beat the chargers today on two Leon Washington returns and the cards beat the raiders on a missed janikowski 32-yard FG. Who suspected these games to go down the way they did?
If Jimmy Raye leaves (I assume he will if the Forty Niners want to have a chance at having a successful season), then the next signal caller just might be able to make this offense click. Now the question becomes whether Mike Johnson be that guy and if not, who? At this point, I believe anybody other than Raye is an upgrade. And if this truly is Singletary’s last year as our HC, I believe he’ll want to go out with a bang. I say, expect the unexpected.
Cheers!

Well, certainly anything can happen, and a team that can hang with the Saints should be able to hang with just about anybody, and each Sunday my optimism is going to be back to a 10 on the scale, but for the sake of being real here: I’m not going to assume the unexpected. I’m rolling my line strictly by what seem to be the clear odds, and I can’t see those five games coming up as W’s unless something unexpected happens.

So you're basically going to not expect them to win.
I don’t understand how you’ll still have your optimism “back to a 10 on the scale,” unless the scale’s out of 100.

Knowing that they play better at home and in night games
Philly is a 50/50 shot. They’ll beat Denver. And I’d bet that they hang tough on the short road trip to San Diego (homecoming for Alex) for a night game.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Well, they played better in one home, night game. Hardly a trend.

Well, I wouldn’t call the win over Chicago last season “playing well.”
That said, they definitely hang a lot tougher at home. Hopefully it comes to bear positively in those upcoming games.

Hmmm
Denver I think we might be able to win and SD ..we will be playing them in week 15 and I’m guessing/hoping that they are not worried about the playoffs and kinda well can’t say it any other way but take it easy on us.

Major talent?
C’mon now you’ve got some good talent, but the only Elite on your team is Patrick Willis..Davis had one good season so he still has much to prove…and DHB is making Crabtree look like…nevermind…Good luck on the rest of this season, but some of your fellow NN…Would you want Cowher or Gruden?
major talent doesn't mean their elite already
i’m pretty content with Vernon Davis, Crabtree, Gore, Morgan, Ginn, Willis, Goldson, Justin Smith, Anthony Dixon, Taylor Mays, Shawntae Spencer, Zeigler. 4 of those guys are already elite(willis, gore, davis, j smith) Crabtree has star written all over him, but we have to wait and see. Taylor Mays is still young and learning, he will be great. The other guys have talent, but we still have to wait and see.
pretty sure that beats the Cardinal’s talent except Fitzgerald and DRC.
Hit like Berry, Score like Jerry.
Neither
I also think it’s where your talent is located. We’ve got a solid roster, good team speed, experience on defense and more depth than we’ve had in years. That’s all fine and good but we do not have major talent at QB, pass rusher or (yet) OL. Nor do we have a pro-bowl kick returner that gets us unexpected points. If you can’t consistently protect your QB and open running lanes plus not pressure the other team’s QB, you will struggle in key moments and in road games regardless of the remaining talent level. Look at how much Warner’s great play made up for a roster that was quite average in many places.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Yeah ok sport.....
I guess you forgot Campbell (not quite elite yet) Dockett, and Wilson for elites…I’ll throw gore in with willis, but everyone else you just named is pure homerade….lay off of it…I could rattle off our young guys, but i’d rather see them produce first…Ginn…you mean Ted Ginn Jr.? LoL…and if that beats the Cardinals talent how come ALL that talent just let St. Louis put them in 4th place?
Go away troll. Kiss the rings homie.

5 and 11
Maybe we win against Oakland, Carolina, Seattle and both Rams games.
That would get us to 5-11, just good enough to be out of the top 5 part of the draft. If we’re lucky we go 0-16 and Buffalo wins a game at some point and we draft a decent QB.
Who that would be? I don’t know. Andrew Luck didn’t look amazing to me on Saturday.
Come to think of it. . .
fire Sing and Raye, hire a good offensive-minded coach, and let Nate Davis take a shot. Don’t laugh. Maybe the kid doesn’t want to learn Raye’s system because Raye’s system is for losers. Maybe in a system he’s more familiar with, Davis is our guy?
Hire who? How about Jimmy Johnson? !!! That’s who Eddie D was going to hire when Walsh retired. But Walsh talked him into hiring Seifert.
I know Jimmy loves his golf and his YV show and living in Miami and staying tan. But he also might not mind saving the 49ers from another decade of Hell while proving that Eddie D was right. . . . I’m not serious, I’m just sayin’ — what if?
Optimism is good
Props for bringing some.
Frankly, we’re not a playoff football team. it’s just not worth getting too optimistic to think that we are. until we get past .500, we’re a losing football team. period. getting some late season wins against the 2009 lions and rams got us drinking some cool aid. fact is, we’re a losing football team under singletary.
that being said, we could see a better team at some point this year. it will have to come with some serious changes (i’m looking at you, Raye and Alex).
Any word on Troy Smith? If the season tanks and the OC changes come down the pipe, it might be a good time to bench the QB. while i’d like to see alex succeed, a change in philosophy could be a good time to bring in a big arm.
Feels like the 2009 Dolphins
They opened with high hopes last season, second year under their HC, and promptly went 0-3 with two road losses where there offense was invisible, sandwiched around a MNF home opener where they lost a heart-breaker to the big-boy Colts. Sound familiar?
That team rebounded, versus a tougher schedule than we face, to reach 7-6 before losing their last three against winning teams. It certainly serves as a reminder that 0-3 is not insurmountable nor a reason to quit, as many teams will lose three consecutive or three of four at some point this season. Ours just happened to come at the beginning.
Correct the Raye problem and give the young OL some more games on their resume and we will see more victories. Here’s hoping for 4-4 at the bye.
You gotta bring ass to get ass.
Our coaching is less good than the Dolphins...
Unfortunately, once the season starts, you’re pretty much committed. I doubt that firing anyone right now truly rights the ship. If they could get someone else to call plays during games, hopefully it would improve things a little.
