So, before the regular season begins, how did the FOs do?

The 2010 draft is long gone, OTAs and training camps are complete, and rosters and practice squads have been pretty much finalized.  Before the games begin I thought that it would be fun to evaluate how the scouting / personnel departments did in this year's draft.  So, here's an analysis of the disposition of all players drafted this spring -- how many made the final 53, how many the practice squad, and how many were traded, ended up on IR or PUP, and how many were just plain cut?

For the entire NFL, 79% of all draftees made their final 53, another 7% made their practice squads, 4 draftees were traded, 6% ended up on IR, and 8% just didn't make it.  Not bad as a group.  However, as you might guess, there was a wide range of results for individual teams.  Overall, maybe these guys aren't as dumb as we think they are.

Below I have ranked teams from 1 - 32 based upon the percentage of their draftees that made their final 53.  You can argue that that isn't necessarily a best measure; my thought is that the purpose of the draft is to improve your roster as much as possible, regardless of injuries, etc.  So, making the final 53 is the ultimate measure -- draftees making the practice squad indicates that your FO didn't completely screw up but didn't pick the players that could improve your existing roster.

G = consensus grade given the team's 2010 draft

T = team's total number of draftees

53 = number of team's draftees making final 53

% = number making 53 / total number of draftees

PS = number of draftees making team's practice squad

IR = number of draftees put on IR or PUP

TD = draftees traded

C = number of draftees cut

32. Redskins G=C, T=6, 53=2, 33%, PS=3, IR=0, TD=1, C=1

The Redskins win the futility award -- they traded a 6th round draftee (their third pick overall) to the Rams for the Rams' 5th round draftee; then, cut the guy they traded for.

Congratulations to Trent, Sing, and scouts for a GREAT RESULT; finished second only to Tampa Bay and only because the Bucs had 9 draftees to our 8.
