49ers-Seahawks: Ask Field Gulls

What's up Niners Nation?

You know the drill. Ask away and we will do our best to answer questions regarding the Seahawks.

It's been a hectic off-season for Seattle and many of Pete Carroll and John Schneider's moves have produced mixed feelings. We knew this team was probably not ready to compete this year, but talent has been sacrificed and we are all still a little unsure to what end. Like you all, like every football fan, we are all impatient to see how the team plays, and a little impatient to be done with discussing roster construction and back to discussing actual football.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Im going to the game, haven't been to Qwest since last year.

Any changes to/around Qwest worth noting? Other than the major facelift to Royal Broughm.

I know this isn’t game related, but I’d just like to know.

Rumor has it that Carroll didn't like his attitude about wanting to be targeted by the QBs more.

But it’s also very possible that they simply released him because they couldn’t get anything for him in a trade.

Every time the team leaves the locker room,

Every man taps a sign over the door that says, “I’m In!”. My guess is that Housh wasn’t “in” enough. Not being “in” is one thing, not being “in” and constantly running your mouth about it gets you shown the door out of the building which should have a sign over it that says, “I’m Out!”

and he is going to let you know if he’s unhappy that he’s not getting his touches or getting time as the split end. He’s especially not going to be happy playing behind Golden Tate and BMW. Surprising, but almost not.

The guy is old. The line wasn’t shaping up (mostly because injuries kept changing the composition of the guys) and he was probably feeling the pressure.

I don't think so.

I mean that’s probably true about Gibbs quitting when feeling undermined, but he’s helped out Carroll at USC before and Carroll went out of his way to hire him and also name him assistant-head coach.

The fact that he got the asst head coach title

may indicate that he was worried about the actual or perceived authority he’d have.

I think that he just got frustrated with the state of the OL (the running game wasn’t working) and the mounting injury situation (everybody had issues) and decided that he wouldn’t be able to get his system instituted anytime soon (it relies a great deal on continuity).

Some people have raised the idea that Carroll or Bates or Schneider did something sinister to him to make him leave, but I think he just felt that rebuilding our OL was a sisyphean task and that he’d just be spinning his wheels for too long.

by ninjasocks on Sep 8, 2010 11:18 PM PDT up reply actions

well it would make him look bad, or could

to be the OL coach for an underperforming OL…if he ever did want to coach again, or wanted to leave the game on a high note…that wouldn’t help

Alex Gibbs already has a reputation

as the best ZBS OL coach in the NFL and a grumpy old man who may just be getting too old. He retired last year from Houston and the Seahawks were able to pull him out of retirement to jumpstart our OL.

At this point in his life, he’s not worried about his resume.

Say what you will about your radical rebuilding process up there...

I’m pretty envious of Mike Williams. I always liked him and thought he got a ridiculously bad deal starting from being the last of Matt Millen’s top draft picks, and not least considering his immense talent. His ceiling, IMHO, is in the elite tier of receivers, way past where Housh tops out.

Not so envious of the quarterback strategy, but then we have our own questions, or at least I have a few about ours. Speaking of questions and qbs, here’s one related to the other: you think Hawks fans would’ve been pleased or displeased if Carroll claimed Nate Davis off of waivers which it’s being reported they didn’t? Relatedly, what’s the going appraisal of Whitehurst up there?

by BKisforSF on Sep 8, 2010 1:31 PM PDT reply actions

I like Whitehurst, personally.

I think he’s shown flashes of good tools, a good arm, good decision making, and poise in the pocket. He hasn’t been perfect, and he’s made his mistakes, but nothing unforgivable or terribly worrying. Just typical of a guy who’s getting snaps behind another QB and playing with guys he may or may have not played with in drills.

Some of his deep passes nearly made me drool. Seattle fans haven’t seen a good deep ball in a loooong time.

Overall, he’s a better player here than he’s been in San Diego, and much better than I had expected.

That said: would I pass up Locker if the Hawks had the chance to draft him? Absolutely not. But Whitehurst isn’t looking like a disaster.

"Pass rushers enter the world of Okung but never leave." - JM

by Nick Andron on Sep 8, 2010 1:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Whitehurst has a rocket arm that was programmed by NASA

So, yes, his accuracy on the deep ball is – to say the lest – encouraging. His INT to TD ratio will almost definitely improve if/when he becomes a starter. The #1 point in the coaching philosophy is to protect the ball, and Pete will blow a gasket over an INT prone QB. But as I said, Whitehurst will learn to manage his eyes better and not telegraph his throws, and also will clean up his short and intermediate accuracy.

All that said, Whitehurst isn’t the starter, and as long as Hasselbeck is healthy and we are at or near .500, or even winning (hey, I can hope) then he will be. And I have confidence that he will stay healthy behind a line that will improve as the season progresses. Add to that the wealth of WR talent, and some good TE play, both blocking and receiving, and Matt could have a hell of a year.

The NFC West has been bagged as the sorriest train wreck in the league for years now. I hope the Seahawks and Niners finish one-two with AZ at least 9-7 behind us. It’s time for the rest of the football world to get as excited about the NFC West as we are. I am looking forward to starting that with a Seahawks win in week one, just to force the “pundits” out of their pre-conceived notions and into actually paying attention to our division.

Good luck Sunday, you’ll need it :)

There are a LOT of plays where Willis is supposed to play man vs. the RB but the RB stays back to block so Willis just rushes.

Speaking of Williams

How comfortable are Seahawks fans with the thought of Mike Williams as one of the starting receivers? This guy bombed with the Lions and Raiders and his weight was always an issue. Is his weight at least down?

I miss the late 80's-early 90's when I could look around the league and be envious of MANY teams QB's

Marino, Kelly, Moon, Cunningham, Simms, Montana, Elway, etc.

Now we’ve only got like 4 or 5 that are consistently good: Brady, Roehtlisberger, Manning, McNabb and Brees

Rivers could make a play for it if he picked his game up and shut up. Roethlisberger is only on the list because of the rings but he’s not exactly a good person. The rest of the league has alot of question marks. The same is true of great left tackles from early 00’s compared to now. It’s gotten a bit thin.

Gore has great hands and a screen with the left side of that line would be outright devastating against he seahawks LB’s and secondary. If Gore doesn’t suit you for power running, just use the best all around utility back of the last 7 years with Brian Westbrook. Either way, it should scare the everloving crap out of the Seahawks D if it start’s out shotgun with Crabtree and Ginn on either side, VD at standard TE position on Ginn’s side and Westbrook(because he played receiver alot in Philly) between Crabtree and the line while Gore is in the backfield. Put either Westbrook or Gore in motion and the LB corps will be scared to death.

Thank You

Someone had to say it. I’d be worried about a pass rush if there was a pass rush. Not to mention I expect a classic Jimmy Raye offense this Sunday. It’s going to bland, conservative with lots of running. If the offense doesn’t turn over the ball the 49ers cannot lose so they will refrain from throwing it only when necessary.

by bignerd on Sep 8, 2010 11:08 PM PDT up reply actions

I too am expecting this. They’ll keep it simple especially early on the road. Let the defense create FP, perhaps force a turnover. Niners are better with more depth. Just wear on Seattle and attempt a few down the field plays when the opportunity arises. Gore’s history against Seattle makes this an even more reasoned plan. Don’t give a great crowd a reason to get behind their team early.

But I don’t care because the preseason is a poor indicator on how the team will actually play in the regular season; it’s to benefit the coaches and players. The Seahawks went 4-0 in the preseason last year, so that should tell you something.

by manraj7 on Sep 9, 2010 11:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Overall is good, but there is a logical thinking that this team is looking past 2010.

I think we have a lot of current talent that underperformed the last two seasons, so improving over last season seems to be an attainable goal. At the same time, I believe we’re not quite as good as we could have been; Pete Carroll seems to have a very specific plan he is following.

Guys like Tatupu and Trufant and Branch were injured last year, but are healthy now.

Some guys like Chris Spencer has played well recently, but if the rest of the offensive line is oft-injured and inconsistent……John Carlson was asked far too often to block at tight end, but looks to be used more in the passing offense with the new coaching staff.

There are few players who stand to benefit for health and a changing in the guard. Nothing guaranteed; just my personal opinion.

by SportsChicken on Sep 9, 2010 10:52 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't think so, but there isn't any hard evidence one way or the other.

There just have been too many changes; I say a majority of them have been for the better, but it could be improvements more towards the long-term than just this season.

Also consider that this team essentially quit on Jim Mora near the end of last season, and coupled with many injuries I believe the team was better than their 5-11 record. I expect some regression to the mean this season….but there are a whole lot of variables to consider before making any concrete predictions.

No, I don’t think we are worse.

by SportsChicken on Sep 9, 2010 11:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes, begrudgingly; I really didn't like getting rid of Josh Wilson and TJ Houshmandzadeh.

But our draft was really awesome, and some other moves were really smart (just a warning: look out for Mike Williams). We’re a faster and younger team now, bt I also noticed that the team were a little too quick to move players they didn’t like, and sometimes we didn’t get fair value in return.

I think this team is getting close to what Pete Carroll wants, so I hope next offseason ends with a lot less turnover.

by J.L. White on Sep 9, 2010 11:12 PM PDT up reply actions

I have to agree your draft was pretty awesome

but somewhat overrated. Who in your draft do you think will be good in the future excluding the first rounders.

by manraj7 on Sep 9, 2010 11:20 PM PDT up reply actions

I can't speak for J.L. White,

but I think the two other guys most people are excited about are Golden Tate and Walter Thurmond. Walter Thurmond is a CB from Oregon who many had rated as a 2nd rounder until he blew out his knee, and so fell to us in the 4th. He’s looked good so far, and was specifically cited as the reason the coaching staff felt good about trading Wilson.

Also, although he’s not technically part of our draft, we got Leon Washington as a draft day trade, so many people associate him as part of the success of the draft.

by Mind of no mind on Sep 10, 2010 1:09 AM PDT up reply actions

how has Golden Tate looked so far?

He looked great throughout camp.

He consistently was winning jump balls, even in double coverage, but you’re right that his route running needs some work. He probably won’t be one of those rare rookie WRs that run wild right out the gate. I’m betting he’ll have some big plays sprinkled throughout the season though.

Not to pick on you..

But the Niners led by 10 in the 1st Q and by double digits the entire 2nd half. The game was never genuinely threatened once Gore ran through Seattle the second time.

I also recall Gore missing the 4th Q due to his own injury, so it could have been more lopsided. That certainly offsets Hass missing a half.

by ItBurnzWhenIP on Sep 9, 2010 2:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Good; rushing the ball gets you less yards than passing the ball.

Everyone here is making a big deal about Frank Gore’s 200-yard game last year; 200 yards is considered great for a running back but mediocre for a quarterback. I also recall the Seahawks hanging tough with the Niners in that same game, even after Hasselbeck came out with an injury. The passing game is much more important in the modern NFL.

Look, I’m scared of Gore and I recognize he’s one of the best RBs in the game; I’d hate for the Seahawks to find themselves down early to you guys because Gore can keep pounding the ball the rest of the game. It’s just I’d rather have Gore go wild and Smith play lousy than the other way around.

It’s just simple math.

by J.L. White on Sep 9, 2010 10:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Running the ball also kills the clock a lot more than passing it.

It also kills moral; nothing is worse than getting pounded upon by the opposing team. Because running is basically who wants it more than the other guy.

by manraj7 on Sep 9, 2010 10:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Fine; you guys can have Gore and 200 yards rushing, I'll take Hasselbeck and 300 yards passing.

And we can see who wins the game (well, it might have something do how Alex Smith and Justin Forsett/Leon Washington play, as well).

by J.L. White on Sep 9, 2010 10:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Well if Gore has 200 rushing yards

He will probably have about 3 TDs, 300 passing yards probably won’t be the same.

by manraj7 on Sep 9, 2010 10:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, now this getting WAY too speculative.

I can’t say for certain is 1 yard rushing is superior to 1 yard passing….but in another sense a yard is a yard is a yard. I want my team to gain more yards than my opponent, I guess; the average pass gets more yards than the average rush.

But I can’t tell you which is better, so I won’t try.

by J.L. White on Sep 9, 2010 10:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Well ya it is speculative

but its true. Runners who have 200+ yards their teams and they do score a lot. For which is better I think they both have their advantages I just like beating people up so I like running more.

and get some unsportsmanlike conduct penalties called because its too loud. I remember in a Detroit game I was watching a long time ago they called penalties because the fans at the superdome were too loud. (Obviously it was a long time ago if Detroit fans were loud – I think Barry Sanders was still there.)

It was a bit overstated by some 9er fans.

Only two ex-49er players made the final roster. Scot Mccloughan was ours first, I think he just got his old job back.

McCloughan is just another front office employee.

Ulbrich might have latched on anywhere had he been offered a coaching position.
Robinson actually has special teams value.
Balmer is a low-risk, high-upside move for a team with terrible DL depth.
Brandon Jones was a meaningless acquisition who received all of 2 or 3 targets before he was cut.

He's only 23 years old.

That’s younger than some rookies this year. And considering that we only gave up a 6th round pick, all he needs to do is provide depth for 1 year, and he’ll have already surpased the average value of a 6th round pick (which is less than 1 year in the league).

I don't see how he's a better fit in your defense.

Balmer is just built to play in the 3-4.
He has the perfect size, that’s why he was drafted in the 1st round.

So yeah….

He was hurt for some of the 2008 season but the thing is that he never did anything to give the coaches a reason to put him in games.
He couldn’t supplant Issac Sopoaga, that’s just embarrassing

I count 4.

Two players in Robinson and Balmer. 1 assistant to the special teams coach in Ulbrich. 1 scouting executive in McCloughan. Am I missing anyone? I’m guessing maybe you’re thinking of the WR Jones, but he was cut after 2 weeks.

I just don’t see why 49er fans are making such a big deal out of it. The Ravens have 4 former seahawks on their roster, 3 starters from last year. The Lions have something like 6 or 7 former seahawks on their roster (and you can laugh at the Lions, but I’ve seen a number of experts who seriously think they could win the NFC West this year if they were in it). The Eagles have 2 former Seahawk players. You could take probably just about any team in any given year, and find another team in the NFL that has several of their former players.

by Mind of no mind on Sep 9, 2010 3:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Because of Free Agency, the NFL has become a league of recycled players.

It’s ridiculous to criticize teams for how many players they have used to play for other teams, because so many them move on year to year. The Seahawks just made something like 180 separate transactions since last season; I’d be kind of shocked if one or two 49ers WEREN’T included. I really don’t think Pete Carroll or John Schneider care that much about what’s going on with the Niners (especially since you guys run a different defensive scheme).

by J.L. White on Sep 9, 2010 10:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Shit, I forgot.

My bad. I still don’t think Pete Carroll is trying to emulate what the Niners are doing, no matter how many former Niners end up in Seattle. It’s certain he is playing by a very specific playbook, if his recent transactions are of any indication.

by J.L. White on Sep 9, 2010 10:51 PM PDT up reply actions

by these3words on Sep 10, 2010 5:54 AM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, that happens to some extent just about every time you get a major front office guy or coach from another team.

It’s why Carroll has taken chances on USC guys, it’s why Holmgren went after Packer players when he got here, and Seahawk players now that he’s with the Browns. It’s why Tim Ruskell signed a bunch of Tampa Bay and Atlanta guys here, and why McCloughan has brought in some 49er guys.

by Mind of no mind on Sep 10, 2010 10:54 AM PDT up reply actions

Keep in mind that Carroll only brought in a couple USC guys, and cut LenDale White.

There were already a couple of USC guys on the roster before Carroll was hired, as well.

I have no doubt that Scott McCloughan is targeting 49er players he is familiar with, and I think that’s a smart strategy…..however Carroll appears to be trying to form some kind of quasi-cult atmosphere in Seattle, so even if McCloughan REALLY likes someone the buck always stops with Carroll.

When life gives you fruit, add a bunch of sugar to it.

by these3words on Sep 8, 2010 4:38 PM PDT reply actions

Not much; he's still got a crazy high ceiling

He just needs to tame his enthusiasm and play with more smarts. Hopefully Lofa plays all year and rubs off on him; he’s the poster child of intelligent linebacker play.

Last year, he was asked by the coaching staff to do everything in the absence of Lofa and Hill. Not many first year players can succeed when being asked to do everything.

This year, it’s more focused. I’ve seen Curry get into the backfield in the blink of an eye, an unbelievable sight to behold. But then he’s clueless on what to do next. It’ll typically end with over-pursuit or whatever. It still ends with a positive result, however: the running back is force to string the run wide resulting in a hawks gang tackle for no gain.

He simply needs to tame his excitement and play with his head. It’ll come with time, he’s still a very young man.

Yes.

I thought drafting a non-rush linebacker in the top 5 was lunacy and he more or less disappointed last season as he was outperformed by several other rookie linebackers.

The prevailing thought is that Lofa Tatupu is going to make him a better player but I wonder how Curry’s career would have unfolded had he been drafted by Detroit or Kansas City, teams which do not have Lofa Tatupu.

by ninjasocks on Sep 8, 2010 7:33 PM PDT up reply actions

That still doesn't really strike me as encouraging.

He wasn’t a pass-rusher in college, and he prefers to play over the TE like a typical OLB. Poor value for a top 5 pick.

No, we are running a modified 4-3

The left DE is a “standup end,” but the rest of the front 7 are still aligned just like any other 4-3 defense. Neither Hill nor Hawthorne play the Stand Up (or Leo); they play weakside LB.

Hawthorne is also Tatupu’s backup, so he could sub at MLB and play alongside Hill, but neither will play where Chris Clemons lines up (the Leo spot).

I haven't noticed any major mistakes by the defense during preseason.

I think one of the reasons why Pete Carroll made so many changes this offseason was to get as many players who “fit” his system as possible.

In any case, there isn’t anything too different to how the linebackers play, so I think Hill and Hawthorne will be just fine. I also have no clue how Mike Nolan runs his defense.

He did not do a good job as defensive coordinator for the 49ers. His game plans needed about 3 weeks to digest. Defensively were missing assignments because he made it too complex. The second Nolan left the 49ers defense began to dramatically improve.

Ideally from left to right out starting line is:

LT Russell Okung – Great prospect, no idea how he’ll do in the pros. Regardless, he’s out Week 1 with a high-ankle sprain. His replacement is some dude we traded a 7th round pick to the Lions for.
LG Max Gibson – Don’t know much about him but he’s apparently a good scheme fit. Beat out veteran free agent signing Ben Hamilton for the starting job
C Chris Spencer – Sometimes inconsistent but mostly a good to great starting center.
RG Max Unger – Our version of Chilo Rachal. He’s not very good but lots of room to improve.
RT – …? It was Sean Locklear who has looked pretty bad for the last couple seasons (due to his penchant for holding on every play, whether it’s called by the officials or not), but John Clayton reported that he’s being shopped around the league for a trade. If he’s not on the team by opening day, recent acquisition Stacy Andrews will probably start.

The best member of the line you’ll see on Sunday is Chris Spencer. Down the road him and Okung are probably going to be the 2 best starters, although Unger might do something eventually.

Ok, Hasselbeck is injured for sure. 10+ sacks this game for the 9ers. One great rule of the league is, if a team is sucking and their O-line is really suspect. You don’t trade a draft pick for a member of that O-line. Matter of fact, you don’t trade a sandwich with a drink to be named later for that O-lineman. I don’t care if he’s the second coming of Christ. If his best game in his highlight reel was the game where Stafford had his shoulder ripped off and still pulled off the game winning pass, that’s not the guy you want.

Example: If you have issues on the line, the teams you DON’T ask for help are, in order: Lions, Steelers, Rams, Packers, Bucs. The only reason you ask them for O-line help is if you need people to carry your best lineman’s car to work because it has a flat tire… and even then I wouldn’t trust them to avoid a wreck getting out of a driveway.

Unger has looked okay to bad.

More or less how he profiled in college; not strong enough at the point of attack and in-line blocking, but mobile and athletic enough to pull out on sweeps and the like and good at laying blocks on the move. He’s like the opposite of Chilo Rachal, technique over strength. He might get better though especially since he’ll probably be surrounded on either side of him by Chris Spencer and possibly Stacy Andrews, both two very strong linemen.

I’d be pretty pissed if Locker is good enough this season to warrant a top 5 draft pick and we pass over him, obviously. Although I don’t think I’d mind at all if it was for another QB like Andrew Luck. But I’d much rather draft a QB than a pass-rusher or DB or whatever.

Weaknesses

What are your specific weaknesses on both sides of the ball and here are some specific questions to help you answer that broader question:

Does your run defense struggle more between the tackles or on edge runs? How are you against screens? What’s the weakness of your secondary? I would guess you’re more of a bull-rushing pass rush defense?

Will your O-Line struggle more in power run game or pass protection?

Our run defense sucks in general.

It isn’t awful but it wasn’t anywhere near as respectable as last year’s stats would lead some to believe. It was so easy to pass against us that there really wasn’t any need to run. Teams that needed to run against Seattle did so and did successfully. Short-yardage and goalline situations weren’t especially hard to convert.

If he stays healthy and consistent for the next 5 years....I say Marcus Trufant.

He’s only about 30 years old, and it’s easy for almost any cornerback to lose attention when the rest of his team plays badly, but when healthy he’s still one of the best in the game. Everyone seems to forget he was a force of nature in 2007.

That is my way of saying that no one on this team REALLY has a shot at the HOF; there’s too much youth and uncertainty right now. Anyway, Walter Jones will be a first-ballot inductee in a few years, and that’s good enough for me.

Not a chance Trufant is HOF worthy. I like him and I think that he’s easily your best CB but I wouldn’t even put him at top 5 CBs in the league right now, much less over his entire career.

Walter Jones is a lock for the Hall, that’s for sure.

Lofa Tatupu had a shot.

3 straight Pro Bowl appearances and a 1st-team All-Pro during his first 3 straight seasons. He was at a Hall of Fame pace before he struggled with injuries the last 2 seasons. He still has a shot if he resumes being a perennial Pro-Bowler now that he’s healthy. He’s still fairly young, in his 20s.

yeah that's probably because you need 3 forms of ID and a background check before you can post on Field Gulls

so it’s probably easier for everyone to just come here

waiting period

We actually have a 1-day waiting period (there’s is 2) for new members.

by David Fucillo on Sep 10, 2010 11:04 AM PDT up reply actions

I was just joking around anyway

but I had no idea we have a waiting period now. It makes sense though, it stops people from jumping on a posting in the heat of the moment.

spam

I actually added it because of the spam we were getting. We had a stretch where we were getting a new spammer every day. The waiting period has ended that for the most part.

Another Question for Seahawk Fans:

At how many positions do you think you’re in better shape than the Niners? (for this game, not long-term)

i’ll give you QB, maybe FB, C (our starter is out), probably RT (veteran vs. Anthony Davis’ first game) and SS, along with whichever CB position Marcus Trufant plays. (although Kelly Jennings wouldn’t start for the Niners, so I’m not sure you’re in better shape at CB overall.)

also, the RG battle between Unger and Rachal could go either way.

PS:

it’s hard to compare the front sevens on a position-by-position basis, since we run a 3-4 and yours is trying to invent a new formation. if we separate the front sevens into pass rush and run D, i don’t think the Seahawks win either battle.

6-0?

Yeah, I’m not buying it.

that was with 7 minute quarters though.

grand total 28 minutes of football. so what madden is really telling us is that the Niners will be up 6-0 at the two-minute warning of the first half. after that is anyone’s guess.

Madden is never wrong

We’ll win the game but the scores will be different

"Madden is never wrong"

31-6 seems to say otherwise. ;)

I have a couple questions.

Are the Seacocks ready to lose tmrw?

Will Willis break Hasselbecks ribs again?

Are the Seacocks going to bring back Shaun Alexander?

I have a couple answers.

They’re all “no.”

And seriously, can’t you do better than Seacocks?

I really did.

Wouldn’t have called myself super confident, but I thought we were gonna win a close one.

Still go with Seachickens personally

What nicknames are you guys running with for the 9ers lately?

by Dave R. on Sep 12, 2010 8:09 AM PDT up reply actions

Close.

Forty-whiners seems to be popular. As much as I love puns, I generally don’t use them much with sports team names (except the Stealers since XL).

Not sure if anyone is going to read this

But to the Seahawks fans that participated in this thread I say this: Congratulations on the victory. Seattle was well prepared for the game and outplayed the 49ers once the first quarter ended. Much better coaching, much better gameplanning, much better everything. While the 49ers effort was pathetic, I don’t say that in an attempt to take anything away from Seattle’s win. The Seahawks were truly the better team in this match-up. That may not be true for the rest of the season (I sure hope it isn’t for my own sanity), but in today’s game, it sure is. Congratulations, again, on the big victory.

Thank you. :)

I will say that I kind of thought that the Seahawks had a much better chance of winning this game than the 49er fans were giving them credit for. But when I predicted the Seahawks finishing 6-10 and the 49ers 10-6, I was factoring in a possible win here for the Hawks. I didn’t expect the game to be a blowout, but considering how well the 49ers played for the first 1 1/2 quarters, I still stand by my prediction.

Cheers man.

Can’t really say much (it’ll either sound like gloating or condescension) except that I know the feeling and it sucks. FWIW I do think you guys will be better than yesterday’s game suggests.

Thank you, Walter Jones.
