Who's making the decisions???
From what I've seen from the roster moves, Coach Singletary is the head coach and doesn't have an immediate impact on the moves made. Let's see 3 points;
1. Kyle Williams: Has been hurt all preseason and made the team despite being a 6th round draft pick and not performing in the preseason. He would have cleared waivers onto the practice squad.
2. Nate Davis cut: He's shown a hell of a lot of promise during the preseason. I understand you want competition but he's been that while he's been here. If not, outperforming his higher ups on the depth chart. Does Troy Smith really present an upgrade??? We'll see I guess.
3. Nate Byham: He stunk it up in game 1 of the preseason, then was handed the reigns of the working with the 1st unit for the 2nd game on. He choked while put in the position to choke and they've protected him thereafter. Don't give me that crap about him blocking well, I could block well if you ran away from me the whole time and all I had to do was get in the defenders way. He dropped two VERY catchable balls against the Vikings, one bounced off both of his thumbs in the red zone. Tony Curtis performed waaaay better than him in practice and in the games. Finley didn't any kind of a look this preseason.
4. The only move I agree with maybe is the release of Jason Hill. He's been with the team too long to not make an impact.
It looks like Baalke is ridding himself of Scot McClueless's regime. It's going to keep going too. Coach Sing sounded like he was taking what he's given and forging a team. Something is going on behind the scenes. No draftee was cut this year... Really???? When does that ever happen?

Davis
Nate Davis cleared waivers and was signed to the practice squad. That means nobody felt it was worth cutting someone and adding Davis to their 53-man roster at this point.
I put that on the coaches.
If he’s not getting practice snaps with the offense, expect him to NOT learn the offense, expect the coaching staff to have to dummy up the playbook for someone who only gets limited practice time. Don’t expect Troy Smith to give much of a push if he’s given the same treatment.
Plus...
Davis was quoted last season as only getting the dummy offense reps. That’s your 3rd QB not getting any reps. Why even keep a 3rd QB if he’s not going to get reps? Just use that extra spot on Robinson who has a LOT more “value” than a 3rd string QB who isn’t going to see the field.
O " boy , let's see ...
… howabout this … the people that do it for a living , that have spent the last Six month’s with the player’s and do it Eleven month’s a year , hmmm , yup that"s about it …!!
I'm your " Huckelberry "...it's juz my game ...!!
Hmmmm
And what makes you think you know more about the players then the coaches who have seen these guys in person the last 5 or so months?
actually
I have been in the clubhouse. I saw Vernon Davis cry when he heard about Robinson being cut. I know more than you know.
yeah he kind of owned you right there
He sees these guys practice too.

How did he own me?
Am I the one that doesn’t know English and can’t read a simple sentence? No. I ask a simple question, and he gives me an answer that has nothing to do with what I was saying.
Think'n they might wanna look ....
… into tightening up their security a bit then …

I really, really doubt VD cried over M-Rob
It’s a business—players understand this and know they can end up on a different team or cut at a moment’s notice.
It’s not like he just learned that M-Rob was diagnosed with cancer and was expected to die within 6 months.
Logic merely enables one to be wrong with authority
VD cries
He just seems like that type of guy.
He once said that if he wasn’t playing football he’d be an interior designer.
I don’t think it would be a reach to say he’s “in touch with his feelings”

my point...
The sports casters are saying it’s Sing’s team. This isn’t Sing’s team if he’s not making the personnel decisions. It’s Baalke’s team, plain and simple.
Davis showed lots of promise...
“last season” , this season he frankly looked overwhelmed the longer he stayed in the game. At this point it seems like Davis doesn’t know what he doesn’t know and Singletary sees that. However he does have enough intangibles plus a great arm, enough to warrant his staying around for further developement. Personally I think that whomever is running the show has done a remarkably good job in the draft and other personnel moves. We’re way ahead of last year with our roster. IMHO

I agree
Troy Smith has actually started some regular season games and played well.
Williams could not be waived and signed to the practice squad while hurt.
Davis needs time to learn the playbook and not affect the 53 man roster.. On the PS he can do that.
The 49ers had a good draft.. Williams looked good before getting hurt. Adams looked really good as a PR and as a CB. Dixon was just remarkable, Bowman looked great. Byham looked good but dropped some passes, and he was not a pass receiving TE in college.. they signed him to block and he a good job as a TE and as a FB.
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
Think Troy Smith is more a situation where Sing knows Carr isn't cutting it
Johnson is familiar with Smith from Baltimore and he does have some regular season experience. But at the same time, Smith doesn’t know the playbook so they have to keep Carr around for now.
And while we’re at it, can you name players who should have been kept instead of these? I know you said Curtis was nice in practice, and Byham did stink a bit this preseason, but I can’t see anyone with more value than Williams. Is Robinson gonna field punts and do something with them? And in my opinion, Nate Davis is a bum.
1. Kyle Williams showed a bit of promise before being injured.
2. Nate Davis has been signed to the practise squad.
3. Nate Byham has shown promise a blocker and can make some grabs. I don’t know why people insist he’s useless. No, I don’t think you could be as good a blocker as Byham.
4. I think you need to relax. The team is moving in the right direction. Michael Robinson, while a great special teams player, is not going to prevent this team from making the playoffs.
Byham sucks
He hasn’t been as good as advertised when blocking.
He was supposed to be the best blocking TE of all time and stuff.
Should have just signed Algea Crumpler in the offseason if they wanted a real blocker (plus he can catch way better than Byham).

I definitely don’t think Byham sucks, it’s too early to make that claim. Do I think he’s awesome? No, it’s too early to say that also. He’s a rookie, he’s bound to have some hiccups along the way, and I think some fans are blowing it out of proportion (YOU!). Either way, Byham isn’t going to make or break the roster this season, and these little things people are worrying about are really nothing. What Byham ends up being an absolute beast on ST this year? Will that shut you guys up about him?
by Andrew Davidson on Sep 9, 2010 8:19 AM PDT up reply actions
If he plays as well as Ulbrich/McKillop/Robinson on ST I'll shut up
Until then I’ll say that Algea Crumpler would have been a better option.

When this scrub makes the team
and a leader and special teams contributor like MROB gets cut, I am annoyed. No, you shut up.
We need something to talk about
This is chalked up as Season Opener Anxiety in my opinion. Alex Smith is gonna play 16 games for the second time in his career. Nate Byham is solid, and touph, with decent hands. We are missing that at the TE position as both VD, and D.Walker have WR statures, and abilities although Davis is an underated run blocker. Nate Davis will never see the field in 2010 so why not let him develope in the basement for a season. Wax on Wax off style. Anthony Dixon not spelling Frank Gore is the only dilema I have with the FO…GIVE DIXON THE BALL…He’s a beast…

how
underrated is VD’s blocking really? He made the probowl two years ago because of his blocking genius. That headline was so 3 years ago.
I thought he was only an alternate...
Not last year, but some time before that.

Your right, I have that same Season Opener ANXIETY too
I cant stop checking the site for more news, but when I wake up on Sunday I will feel a gigantic relief knowing that the Niners will be playing again and IT WILL COUNT
"We are not a charity, we cannot GIVE them the game." -Mike Singletary
I can use all of these points to show you that Singletary is running everything:
1. He loves Kyle Williams because he’s fast and has great acceleration.
2. Nate was cut and demoted to PS because Sing didn’t like how he was working.
3. Byham sucks but Sing keeps him because he likes useless blockers.
4. Jason Hill has been in Singletary’s doghouse since early last offseason.

sooo
explain why he cut MRob and signed on a 3rd QB who won’t get any reps? He coaches the team, Baalke gives him the tools, trust me breh.
He believes that Carr won’t cut it so he brought in someone who can compete against Carr. As for MRob Sing honestly believes that multiple people can replace him. The only way we will know that someone will replace Rob is after Game 1.

He doesn't like MRob and doesn't know squat about special teams.
Guess he likes Troy Smith and he’s also disappointed in David Carr (we all are).
