Dan Brown of Mercury News is reporting via his colleague Jon Wilner that the 49ers have hired Greg Roman as their offensive coordinator. He was previously with, you guessed it, Jim Harbaugh at Stanford and he was the assistant to the head coach. Roman has been viewed as a strong offensive mind and I imagine he had a lot of influence at Stanford.
Roman is the guy that I liked for the job, and Fooch had a little bit about him here. There's a bio after the jump in that piece, and the speculation is still pertinent: what will Greg Roman be doing exactly? I imagine everything that comes up is Jim Harbaugh, and Roman is there to advise every step of the way. Then again, everything that comes up could be Roman - with Harbaugh making the subtle change here or there.
It's really all up in the air, but at this point - I approve. What are your thoughts? Is this a good hiring, will he do things for the team, or does it really even matter as he won't be doing much when it all comes down to it? I'm sticking with my initial thought, that Roman is a "check the work," kind of guy.
Maiocco just tweeted that Vic Fangio shouldn't be too far behind.
