2011 East-West Shrine Game Rosters: Let The Cattle Calls Begin

A week after the national title game wrapped up the 2010 college football season, the 2011 NFL Draft season is officially upon us. This week it all kicks off with the 2011 East-West Shrine Game. The game involves players from Eastern US colleges taking on players from Western US colleges and bowl participants are eligible to take part (unlike some other all star games). This year's version will take place in Orlando this Sunday January 22 at 1:00pm pacific on NFL Network.

The game itself does have some value as far as evaluating NFL prospects, but the real value lies in the workouts leading up to the game. Aside from a teammate or two, most of these players have never actually played with each other before. Thus, the game itself can be a bit choppy at times. However, in the week of practice the many scouts, coaches, and front office personnel in attendance can get a closer look at an individual's technique.

Even if the timing is off between quarterback and wide receiver, they can assess the quarterback's throwing motion and the wide receivers route-running. Even if the timing is off on a guard helping out an offensive tackle, the NFL folks in attendance can see how that tackle handles himself on an island or how that guard handles his pulling assignment. After scouting these players over the last year or two (or more), the NFL can use these workouts for additional individualized assessments.

I've posted the rosters after the jump. For Bay Area sports fans, Cal is represented by ILB Michael Mohamed and Stanford is represented by WR Ryan Whalen.
