Brett Favre's Retirement... Any Thoughts?
Here are my thoughts (and I understand that there will be some that disagree. I really don't care at this point).
Favre was a great QB. One of a kind. Players loved him, coaches... well... they loved him most of the time. But Favre should've retired a few years ago. Instead, he allowed himself to succomb to "Michael Jordan-itis". In addition to that, here are a few reason why I am SO glad that he's finally gone...
* When Favre left the New York Jets, the Vikings made a push for him. He initially told them that he wasn't sure if he'd retire or come back and essentially gave them a deadline. Deadline came... Favre announced his retirement. A few days later, out NOWHERE, we see Favre in a Vikings jersey practicing at their facility. ARE YOU SERIOUS!? He did this twice. And poor John David Booty... before Favre showed up on the Vikings squad, Booty was a back-up QB and wore the number 4. Favre came on the scene, they stripped Booty of the number 4 (since that's 'Favre's' number), kicked him down to QB 3, and then eventually kicked him off the team. Wow...
* The last few years of his career, Favre was absent from training camp. He used the ploy that he was still "undecided" on coming back each time. In my opinion (and ONLY my opinion), I think he knew he wanted to come back all along, but didn't want to go through training camp. Now some Favre supporters stated "he's Brett Favre, he can skip training camp if he wants". If that's so, that means that Brett Favre has now officially become bigger than the league. No way Jose! NO PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE LEAGUE! To me, being the greatest of all time means that you have unsurpassed work ethic. Jerry Rice played 20 seasons and was in every single training camp. Not only was he honing his own craft, but he was also helping the up-and-coming receivers on the team. It was about the "team" with Jerry. I'm sorry but I just didn't see that from Favre. I would be SO mad if I were on that team, working my #$% off day in and day out, sweating and bleeding with my teammates and all the while knowing that The Almighty Favre is sipping on lemonade somewhere in Mississippi and can step in and snatch the number 1 QB slot without having thrown one single ball all offseason. Wow... again...
*This last thing REALLY boils my blood. Favre leads the Vikings to the NFC Championship against the New Orleans Saints. The game is taken into overtime, Saints move down the field, score a FG and win the game. Favre then complains to the league about how it's "unfair" that a team can score a FG and win in overtime. HELLO!? This is the NFL! Some say that offense has an unfair advantage because they have the ball. Well I was always told "Offense wins games, defense wins championships". Meaning that if you have a tough defense, you shouldn't have to worry about the other team's offense. There have been PLENTY of games that went to overtime, Team A gets the ball, Team B's defense turns the ball over, and Team B's offense ends up winning. But no, Favre was a poor sport after that loss and the league changed its rule because of it. Wow... trinity...
I'm not saying that Favre's entire career was tainted, but his last few years definitely were. Once again, this is all my opinion. I'd love to hear from all of you.

is site decorum in effect for this thread?
because I’m not sure I could give my thoughts on him without the use of some (a lot ) of profanity.
No
Go ahead and rant so that I might be amused.

He'll try to come back unless somebody stops him...

I agree with most of that
As far as the overtime rule, they had discussed that before but that game had a lot to do with the decision to change it. I’m not really against the rule but I was ok with how things were before the change. I just hope it sticks with playoff games only and not the regular season. That loss in the NFC Championship game was ALL FAVRE and it was beautiful to see him lose that game for the Vikings. I suppose it was kind of bitter sweet after what happened earlier in the year to the 49ers.
Most of us knew that he would be back and that he just wanted to skip out on training camp. That’s just how Favre is. What you shouldn’t have done is compare that sack of [site decorum] to Jerry Rice. Favre has never had the work ethic or class that Jerry Rice has had.
I hate Favre and I’m glad he’s done. I feel this time it actually is for good. With all of the problems he had this last year, it wouldn’t be a very good idea to come back. I just hope he stays far away from the NFL afterwards.
Proud supporter for Kyle Orton as a 49er for 2011
He's filed these papers before.
I’ll believe he’s reitred when he’s dead, and even then it wouldn’t surprise me to see Zombie Brett Favre sign with the Vikings with the media gushing all over him.
I really don’t see how it’s not over.
His body is in terrible shape right now. He’s a guy who just took a beating at over 40, didn’t finish the season because of injuries – which include a concussion – and played like crap the whole time. There is no team in the league right now that would take a flyer on that. Not a single one. Especially since Childress is no longer a head coach.
There is not a single scenario I can envision that has Brett Favre ever playing in the NFL again.
It looks like dancing frog in the sky because it's green.

Honestly, at this point, I would be surprised.

My thoughts to Favre:
*yawns
The fanpost was good, but the subject about an old man that has a love affair with a young beauty has been done multiple times in the 70’s and 80’s. I think they were about a guy named Bond played by Roger Moore
My thoughts:
I’m so happy it’s finally over. He really was one of the best QB’s in the NFL and although it was painful playing against him at times, it was always fun to face Favre.
But I am so happy that it is all over now. I’m so sick of Favre mania. I hated all of the national media coverage that went around his retirements and “unretirements.” Glad that the NFL can finally move on. I’ve been waiting for this day now for years and glad it’s finally here.
Love Favre , he was good for the game , anyone that play's at that level for so many year's ..
… my hat goes off too , don’t be so sure it’s over , if there’s no CBA until late , look for team’s to line up to get him and the Niner’s just maybe one of them …!!
I'm your " Huckelberry "...it's just my game ...Jimmy Raye your no daisy ...!!
Well, you know, I'm genetically a GB fan, so
1. I’ll believe he’s retired when the 2011 season ends and he’s still retired
2. I’ve loved watching the guy play, despite the NFC-Championship-ending picks and all that. It’s entertainment, and he was always entertaining.
3. This is a minority view among Packer fans, but I don’t hold his un-retiring, or his move to the Vikings, against him. The team did the right thing to trade him to the Jets, despite the fact that no one doubted he could still play. They would have lost Rodgers, otherwise. His move to the Vikes was, I think, not mostly to stick it to Ted Thompson. It was because the Vikings offered an almost pre-greased chance at another Super Bowl. Who could expect him to pass that up? Almost worked, too.
4. I do hope he calls it a career. I mean, George Blanda played until he was 75, or whatever, but he didn’t have to face Peppers or Matthews or Suh twice a season.

My thoughts of Favre
Aaron Rodgers is better than Favre ever was!!! How smart was Green Bay for getting rid of him??? I only hope that Harbaugh can make great decisions like that. Favre might be the only guy that could make our QB situation worse… lol. As your wife should say, “Bye bye Favre! I won’t miss you!”
