Well, that was enjoyable for stretches of time. I thought the game was enjoyable and I'm happy with a 49ers win, but there are those who will most definitely be upset and raise all kinds of hell due to it. But in my mind, the 49ers are fine anywhere within the top ten. This draft is deep at quarterback and cornerback, and any of the top five guys at the CB position are worthy starters to me. Only one quarterback is worth a top-eight pick, and he's going first overall. It's not the end of the world. It looks as though the 49ers will be picking 7th overall.
The first half saw largely what one might expect from the 49ers and Cardinals both. Arizona had -14 yards and no first downs going into the second quarter, and John Skelton was sacked three times. The 49ers defense played hard, the linebackers and defensive line especially. It was a little different in the second quarter, the 49ers got some points on the board, but then again, so did Arizona. For some reason, Tramaine Brock was on Larry Fitzgerald on at least two occasions, and guess what happened? Larry caught the football. He caught the football a lot.
Anthony Dixon ran hard, Alex Smith was mostly on target and limited bad decisions. Brian Westbrook got cracked bad, and Josh Morgan was of the opinion that yet another pass came down like a punt. The 49ers played well, or maybe it isn't well, depending on your draft outlook.
The second half was even better, or even worse, again, for the 49ers. Ahmad Brooks picked up his first career interception and Brian Westbrook had a pair of six-yard touchdown runs, one with a fall and one without. Alex Boone played some left tackle and looked good doing it. Tarell Brown covered Larry Fitzgerald once and it was special.
I won't be attending the postgame press conference, I need to get going, but I'd say my time in the press box has been successful, I look forward to returning here next season.
