East-West Shrine Game 2011: Schedule And NFL Draft Info

The 2011 East-West Shrine Game kicks off today at 1pm pacific in Orlando, Florida, making its debut on NFL Network. Drew K will have an open thread in a little bit, but in the meantime I thought we'd review some of what we know so far. Although the 49ers don't have any coaches present in Orlando, they have had some scouts on hand to check out the practices and keep an eye on the game. Speaking of the practices, make sure and check out some of our posts discussing particular players over the course of the week:

Day 1: Pat Devlin and Scott Tolzien
Day 2: A look at cornerbacks
Day 2: 49ers speak with Terrance Turner
Day 3: A look at fullbacks

The game itself will only provide some limited glimpses into the players. We have to take big performances with a grain of salt, while not completely discounting a player because of a poor performance. I'd certainly prefer certain players have big games, but a poor showing isn't the end of the world.

What's also worth noting is the level of players participating in this game. Unlike next week's Senior Bowl, this week's game won't include the absolute cream of the crop. There will be some talented players that come out of this year's East-West Shrine game, but people need to keep in mind where a lot of these players are drafted. Last year's game included 34 eventual NFL Draft picks, with the highest being Roger Saffold at the beginning of the second round. The game included four in the second round, three in the third round, six in the fourth round, ten in the fifth round, four in the sixth round, and seven in the seventh round.

Are there any particular players you'll keep an eye on today? I've posted the rosters below. After a week of practice, the QBs are certainly high on my list, although Virginia Tech QB Tyrod Taylor is not one of those players. I just don't see him working in the West Coast offense. Pat Devlin and Scott Tolzien are intriguing, but have their share of drawbacks. Tolzien's height is a bit of an issue so I'm curious to see if he has many passes get batted down.

All the positions I've written about this week (linked above) are positions I'll be paying close attention to during today's game. Whether it be cornerback, QB, or fullback, they're all worth watching. The same holds true at the defensive ends and pass rushing outside linebackers. From what we've discussed this week and looking at the rosters below, are there particular players you'll keep an eye on? I'm going to DVR the game so if you miss it, let me know and I'll re-watch it and keep an eye on any particular players that might interest you.
