Titans, Jeff Fisher "Part Ways": Vince Young Still To Be Traded Or Released?

News is quickly coming out that the Tennessee Titans have decided to part ways with long-time head coach Jeff Fisher. Nobody really seems to know yet whether it's a firing, resignation, or some kind of mutual decision. Whatever the case, one has to wonder if this decision means that Bud Adams picked Vince Young over his head coach in their little tête-à-tête. Adam Schefter is reporting that VY is still going to be waived or traded. If that's the case then I'm not sure what to make of all this.

The general belief was that Fisher was sticking around and Vince Young was on his way out whether it be via trade or being cut. When that news leaked out, the Vince Young bandwagon heated up here at Niners Nation. VY has a variety of skills that are incredibly attractive. He's got speed, he can make some impressive throws, and he's a "winner" for those who want to use that argument. However, Young has had a variety of issues arise with the latest being his battle of wills with Jeff Fisher.

Now that Fisher is out as head coach, is it possible we see some kind of reversal that results in VY staying with the Titans?

I bet...

Fisher stays out of the NFL for the 2011 year and does a broadcasting gig. Then in 2012, he surveys the open HC positions and takes his pick, much like Bill Cowher.

16 years at one high-pressure place could burn anyone out.

I just don’t get the Titan’s ownership. They love VY, then they’re cutting him. They’re keeping Fisher, now they’re not. Sounds like the owner is trying to channel his inner Al Davis. Yikes.

Jim Harbaugh doesn't just WANT winners, he MAKES them!

For some odd reason..

He looks like a MIA HC to me.

Bud Adams has been an #@%$@# for as long as I can remember ... and that's a long time.

Adams founded the Oilers / Titans in 1960, an original member of the old AFL. Adams is now in his mid-80s and is as obstinate as he ever has been. Way back when, I did some consulting work for one of his companies. After getting jerked around by Adams on several occasions I finally decided to halt the engagement. Frankly, I don’t see how Jeff Fisher has been able to stand working for Adams for 16 years. Jeff’s a saint as far as I’m concerned … glad to see that he will have an opportunity to decompress and see how the real world lives.

The timing of this is very suspect.

If Fisher resigned thats one thing, If he was fired the Titans give him no time to hook up with another organization in that most if not all teams have already hired their new coaching staff.

by mensa on Jan 27, 2011 4:21 PM PST reply actions

He only had one year left on his contract anyways

Didn’t want to re-sign, and the Owner didn’t want him back, it’s clear they needed to part.

by hudd07 on Jan 27, 2011 5:13 PM PST up reply actions

I don't want Young anyway

So, it really doesn’t matter if he goes or he stays. He will not be a good WCO QB, and that option must be eliminated right now.

If Tennessee fired Fisher, it shows a lack of class. They should have fired him earlier in the off-season so that he could have had an opportunity to get a job. This shows what organizations have class, and which ones don’t. The 49ers did right by firing Singletary before the final game because they knew he wouldn’t be back in 2011. The right thing to do is make the decision ASAP so that both factions can move on.

Of course this is all speculation because the news is still breaking and we have no idea what actually happened for them to part ways in such an untimely manner.

There’s no way on any plane of existence that Vince Young is a good idea. Doesn’t fit the system and is a blight on the locker room. I think, for the most part, such things are overstated, but Young is a very real headcase and he is not what Jim Harbaugh needs in his first year as head coach.

Bud Adams would be a fool

to hitch his bandwagon to the back of Vince Young. To expect that guy to take his team to the Superbowl is ridiculous.

by rhaegar on Jan 27, 2011 4:26 PM PST reply actions

Vince Young is not an option for the 49ers.

Just getting that out of the way right now. I wonder if anybody thinks the 49ers made their head coaching hire too soon, and that they should have waited around.

Vince Young is still out in Tenn

He is owed $4.25 million roster bonus and $8.5 million in salary next year. He is gone.

Schefter reporting that Fisher leaving won’t change the decision to either release or trade Young.

I think they have a similar vision

But Harbaugh, without even a game coached in the NFL, is steps ahead of Singletary in possibly every aspect.

Wonder how Jerry Jones is feeling about this

He didn’t give Garrett the HC job till Fisher committed to the Titans. I thought Jerry would have hired Fisher instead of Garrett.

JF to the booth, VY anywhere except the Niners.

wait til next year!

Jones is slapping his hands on the table repeatedly while screaming as his face unnaturally turns blue. Jason Garret meanwhile is sitting across the table with his eyes fixed on the Jeff Fischer poster on the wall.

We’re planning to draft the next Vince Young.

Sounds like he got canned

Some owners have little class. Timing is everything when it comes to new coaching staffs being formed.

by wellnesscoach on Jan 27, 2011 8:50 PM PST reply actions

so...

mike singletary, john fox, josh mcdaniels, wade phillips, brad childress, tom cable, eric mangini and now jeff fisher. not a good year for coaches huh? odd that they let him go so late because he would have been a pretty solid candidate for any of the teams listed. i take it he will replace sparano next year.

Niners, Lakers and the Warriors... when Lakers have the night off.

Maiocco twitter feed from the onion news network
the titans have hired jimmy raye to be head coach. vince young will compete with jamarkus russell to be the starting quarterback. singeltary is going to hired as defensive coordinator/special assistant to head coach

the thinking is that it is closer to jimmy rayes house.

this is all courtesy of the onion news network.
