Good idea

but how can they experience a live game when your reading Vernons Bio on your phone, or watching his high school highlight’s. All things you can do at home on your couch.

Nobody finding this stuff cool?...

I think it’s awesome. By the time the Stadium gets built wherever and when, tablets will be very affordable, and the code very video friendly along with new standards of convergence. I can see a lot of Silicon Valley companies jumping at the chance to integrate their technologies into the Stadium, which could be a nice form of cash to literally stream into the project. Instant replay that you can toggle at your fingertips? Awesome. A Gameday app that has several layers of content, including Ninjames gameday apparel style page that will keep you up to date as far as hip? Fantastic. Gameday threads that won’t slow down due to multiple cat pics and gifs due to high bandwidth and better HTML code? Heaven on Earth!

I for one welcome our App Overlords, while laughing at the slab of stone Raiderfan qualifies as a tablet.

good news article link!

and i am glad its in SC and not in SF. i use to be pissed because it wont be in SF, but since going to my last Niner game last season… its been getting ghetto. Its like as if the stadium gets older and uglier, the fans are getting ghettoer…. Maybe put in a nice suburb/ tech savoy place would give it a more homey feeling like in the 90s…

  • I witnessed some ghetto Niner fan attempt to steal, got caught by the store worker and then punched him! Then the security and cops got him, but yeah that was a mess.

The 3 teams that will most likely end up with a top 3 draft pick in 2012 are Carolina, Tennessee, & Buffalo. So can we trade to obtain that? To increase our chances to get Andrew Luck of course :)

i like this idea.. The Oakland A's have the same idea with Cisco in their new stadium..wherever that is.

Some ideas are rental iPads… or whatever the flavor of the month is when this stadium opens. Also, they could take a page from China who is building completely solar powered cities.. With Solar power they could actually make money in that all extra power that is not used PG&E would have to buy. So on those many days that the stadium is empty it makes money.

I love this part of the article..

“Everything for us is micro, not macro,” York said in a telephone interview. "In the Silicon Valley, we want to know: What you can do on your smartphone? Our approach is, why build a $50-million scoreboard as opposed to enabling 65,000 people to have scoreboards in their hands that are interactive?

With the push of iOS and Android being the future of consumer computing, along with cloud based solutions, you literally can personalize your Gameday experience due to the devs coming up with apps and solutions based on your needs, being that the technology will be more efficient and streamlined. Just think of Minority Report, and how you can be immersed in a more personal environment with a device in your hand that you can configure and tailor for the best Gameday experience you can get because (this is Big Bro stuff too) the data is already in place.

Smarter Approach

Let’s hope they take this approach on building the 49ers.

Good article

I’m coming over for my 40th in 2016 to watch a home game for the first time. Going to be very touch and go as to which stadium that’s in.

Why is the LATimes interested in what goes on in that sleeping pill of a city up north?

Memo to PhillipC...

because the Sports section sometimes covers the NFL in California, which LA doesn’t have.

Ya, I hate having to live with Raider/Charger idiots.

It doesn't matter

as long as we win, we could still be playing at candlestick and the niners will sell out every damn game. If the team loses, no one is going to care about video replay highlights on your mobile phone, etc etc etc.

But the article does seem to touch on a lot of key points for the stadium, that it would be indeed on the micro level instead of the macro level. not only will the stadium need to be technically advanced, but it has to have a small carbon footprint, look for it to be LEED gold minimum.

by SH0ck-D on Jan 31, 2011 6:48 PM PST reply actions

I like the idea in general to be innovative and ahead of the curve, but

At a certain point, a lot of this stuff becomes superfluous and detracts from the actual game. I begin to resent people at sporting events when the don’t bother to look up from their phones. That’s why baseball gamescare great- line drive foul balls can be a brutal lesson, but certainly understood.

I wouldn't go further than phone apps people can download than use inside the stadium.

Providing your own devices is a giant sink hole.

Yesterday’s was about it on the field.
