As the Jim Harbaugh Hiring Watch rolls along, it's safe to say we're starting to reach levels of mass hysteria. Jed York and the 49ers are reportedly meeting with Harbaugh in an "undisclosed location" to discuss a potential deal for him to become the next head coach of the 49ers.

This is reminiscent of the Crabtree-49ers negotiations that eventually involved noted negotiator M.C. Hammer. We had beat writers traveling across the Bay Area trying to be the one to break the news when a deal was hammered out. Eric Branch even ventured back there to see if York and Harbaugh were around. Sad to say, no they were not there. Hopefully Eric checks in from various locations across the Bay Area.

The most specific report we've had thus far actually came from 49ersnews.com. According to their twitter feed (their site is crashing from traffic), the parties are at the Marriott in Burlingame and they were seen coming out shaking hands and all sorts of buddy buddy. They have their source and trust that source, but that was followed up shortly after by Adam Schefter tweeting that the two sides were still meeting as of that tweet. It's possible they left but the meeting continued.

I'm not here to rag on 49ers News, but more just to point to the absurdity of this whole thing. It really has become like the final days of the Michael Crabtree negotiations, only multiplied by a whole lot. If you go back to the October 2009 archives we had a couple hundred comments in each of the various posts leading up to his deal. Today alone we've had 1,700+ comments on Jim Harbaugh and other assorted random topics in those threads. I think this is a combination of it being a slightly more interesting topic, but also a more important topic for the 49ers future.

As it now stands, if Harbaugh does become the 49ers head coach today or tomorrow, 49ersNews can claim they were right all along. I doubt we'll hear much about events at the Burlingame Marriott, but really who cares. It really doesn't matter who breaks the story, so long as their is a story to break. Let's just get Jim Harbaugh up at that microphone with Trent Baalke and get it announced.
