We've Entered BizzaroWorld - NFL.com front pg:"Get Alex Smith onto your team now"

That's right folks, "Get Alex Smith onto your team now" is what the front page of NFL.com says.  On top of that, they've got Frank Gore prominently displayed just below that headline...  And an entire segment of Fantasy Football Live about the 49ers, Josh Morgan's injury and the roster moves (pre-IR or Swain).

It's funny how winning a few games can turn the world around for you.  I don't think ESPN is ready to acknowledge the 49ers are legit this year, but I'll take what we can get!

To make things even more upside-down in the Universe, Philly is 1-4 and Detroit is 5-0!?!?!  WTF?!?!

Alex Smith

I’d like to take credit for starting Alex Smith last week in my fantasy contest. I had him and Josh Freeman and naturally went with Smith. Might have earned himself another start.

Yeah well....

…I am in the NN #9 league (HarbaghCalypse Now) and made the INSANE move of getting upset, dropping Big Ben and picking up Mark Sanchez and starting him. Then, of course, Ben has a career day…

Lucky for me I was able to pick Ben back up off waivers, but being in a NN league, Smith is already owned.

On another tip, I just wanted to tell people “I told you so” about Alex! :)

Ooh me too!

I thought I was the only one who would start him, but I put him in since Joe Flacco was on bye. I’m starting him again this week over Flacco, we’ll see how that works out.

i really want to pick him up in my other league, but I have Brady and their byes coincide =(

Not only have I had him in all year.....

But I’ve probably had him in for 2/3 of his starts over the past few years. While I don’t put a whole lot of priority on the position, he’s never really made me regret it as long as I avoid the obviously bad matchups.

You better sub Ryan Matthews, Brandon Lloyd, and Zach Miller in our league… they have bye’s.

let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here....

i’m drinking the harbaugh kool aid. smith has turned into a productive qb but a fantasy starter???
not now.

fill-in

He’s actually a good bye week fill-in for folks who have Drew Brees. Brees’ bye is week 11 when the 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. I’d say that’s a favorable fantasy matchup.

Agreed

I’ve been a strong Alex supporter, but think I’m in the same boat as you. He’s clearly a decent fill-in during certain bye weeks, but I wouldn’t trust him (or the nascent Harbaugh system/regime) to QB my FFB team just yet…

Hopefully, Alex can prove he’s worth keeping around to mentor Kap for another year or two. Or, by some strange twist of fate, he wins the Super Bowl this year and shuts us all up… who knows?

by StereoPete on Oct 13, 2011 8:03 AM PDT up reply actions

If we get to the playoffs this year...

…Alex will have shut many people up.

He doesn’t have to win a Super Bowl this year, IMO.

10, 11 wins and he continues playing close to how he’s played the past 2 weeks? I’d be OVERJOYED w/that.

I have many leather-bound books.

I think...

….he’s already shut many people up by leading the team to 4-1 and only 1 INT in 5 games.

You’re walking down a crowded street in San Francisco. You see a man in a #11 jersey. He is smiling. A scoreboard is seen in the distance, hovering over a rundown stadium. It reads “Home: 48, Visitors: 3”. You must be dreaming. You turn around, and walk right through,
The Scary Door.
