49ers-Lions, Final Injury Report: Most Everybody Is Probable

After a week of some injury question marks, the 49ers released their final injury report this afternoon and most everybody we were concerned about is listed as probable. Mike Iupati and Isaac Sopoaga were two question marks at various times this week, but as it currently stands, there is no real reason to think either guy won't play on Sunday.

The most significant Out for the Lions this week would appear to be Tony Scheffler. He has done a bit more blocking than receiving, with Brandon Pettigrew being the prominent pass catcher at tight end. Pettigrew is actually the second leading receiver on the team behind Calvin Johnson with 26 receptions for 279 yards and a touchdown.

We've talked plenty about Megatron, but Donte Whitner and the linebackers could still find themselves with their hands full against Pettigrew. Wide receivers Titus Young and Nate Burleson are difficult matchups as well, but Pettigrew could be the matchup to watch on Sunday.

Edwards

Yea, sorry, I know you were hoping for it. But he’s been ruled out all week, so such is life. After the bye should be good.

I just am super-anxious to see him and Crabtree on the field at the same time. Couple more weeks I guess.

I think we’ve done reasonably well in spite of his absence; probably because Morgan stepped it up, but I think we’ll do ok w/Ginn~Williams for 1 game against Detroit. besides, we’re primarily a TE offense melded to a power run attack.

And now I can rest a little easier knowing our o-line remains intact. Was worried for a minute that we’d have Chilo subbing in for Iupati

Crabtree
Edwards
Walker
Davis

…that’ll probably be the most common personnel grouping once Edwards is back

Also

I thought I read from one of the Lions fans over here that Scheffler was going to play. You may want to double-check that one.

I'm sorry. This is off-topic, but I thought you would still be interested.

I was asked by NinerFanTucson how the Cowboys handled Megatron before Romo’s pick sixes. I asked a person more knowledgeable than myself that question. He said they used Mike Jenkins in single coverage, and when they rolled double coverage, it was bracket coverage with Jenkins underneath and Gerald Sensabaugh over the top. When Sensabaugh went out with a concussion in the 4th quarter, we lost a big part of our game plan.

by denton on Oct 14, 2011 3:44 PM PDT reply actions

sorta how a lot of teams are choosing to cover these jumbo

TE’s in the league now… bracketing. It helps nullify the height/strength/speed advantage.

by Sigelvictory on Oct 14, 2011 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Bowman

He will take over TE Duties to allow goldson to help out with C.J. And Whitner to help out in rush defense which he does extremly well.

You're welcome.

The response from the guy was as interesting to me as it is to you. I would have replied directly to the original question, but it’s in an article a page or two back. I was afraid you wouldn’t have seen the more educated response so I posted it here.

Harbaugh will have a point to make to Schwartz come Sunday.

I did not realize that...

(1) Ted Ginn is 5’11 / 180 lbs and Kyle williams 5’10 / 180 lbs. I think those two will be O.K. in the pass game, but are they not a bit light for the run game?

(2) Carlos Rogers is 6’0 / 199 lbs and Chris Culliver 6’0 / 199 lbs. Those guys present good size match ups with most WR’s in the NFL.

(3) Calvin Johnson vs Carlos Rogers, they must have played against each other in some past NFL games, so I wonder how Carlos did then?

by BigMar on Oct 14, 2011 4:14 PM PDT reply actions

they are blocking corners

who wont always be a whole lot bigger

by Sigelvictory on Oct 14, 2011 6:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Calvin torched Rogers last time.

Lions fans have been making a big deal of it.

SWEEEET!!!

by Drew Kerr on Oct 14, 2011 4:19 PM PDT reply actions

Thats good

But i feel that culliver should have the honors 3 passes defended and a int. that is extremly good for a rookies first true game starting nickle.

by Zintzun22niner on Oct 14, 2011 4:23 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

Culliver is probably starting on Sunday:
How did CB Shawntae Spencer look this week in practice?
Harbaugh: “Good.”

Will he be up and available for you on Sunday?
Harbaugh: “Yeah just like last week.”

But was he available last week?
Harbaugh: “Yes.”

He could have played?
Harbaugh: “He could have.”

So how do you—has CB Chris Culliver won that job then?
Harbaugh: “Tune in on Sunday and find out.”

C. Culliver – 6’0", 200 LBS (38.5" Vertical)
C. Johnson – 6’5", 235 LBS (43" Vertical)

… at least Culliver has the speed to help him some.

They all have good defensive backs for the most part.

And Kellen Moore could be getting scouted as well.

Yeah their DBs are coached up pretty good

the only knock on them is that they don’t face the kind of offensive schemes that they’ll see in the NFL.

I’m sure manraj is praying that the scouts are there for Moore.

by smileyman on Oct 14, 2011 4:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Wait ... what?

They are scouting … now? They have to complete that Brandon Lloyd trade … FILL IN THE MISSING PIECE!!!

by bignerd on Oct 14, 2011 5:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Off the top of my head

I seem to remember Boise St. and Michigan St. both having big DTs that are projected to go high in the draft.

Interesting.

We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
