Possible Trades Before The Deadline
First off I wanna say, I don't want to come on here and sound crazy or like I have an issue with the team at the moment. I know we can improve though. These are two options I was wondering about.
The first one is trading Bowman to the Eagles for DRC. Now before I get jumped on, I think Bowman is a top 15 MLB right now. Maybe top 10 cause honestly I don't think I can name 10 MLB who are playing better then him right now. But I do understand that Spencer and Brown are what they are. The thing I am struggling with is are we better off in a passing league with Bowman or DRC. Bowman's upside is huge in my opinion. But DRC is still young and could be some major help against teams like the Packers who we will see in the playoffs.
My other trade option is Brandon Lloyd from the Broncos. I know he might have his issues with the Niners but if we could get him for a 4th or a 5th why not try? He is a taller WR and with Lloyd Edwards and Crabtree out there it would open up alot. Edwards, Lloyd and Morgan are in contract years if I remember correctly. And That would give us some serious options come resign time next year. I know we all have different opinions on our WR core, But I do not think Morgan is a number 1 WR (But I do seem him as a very solid number 2 and want to resign him). So Lets see what happens this year to see who would be our number 1 next year out of Lloyd Edwards and Crabtree (who I like best in the slot). And if we could get Lloyd at the right price then why not?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

Agree. Big "no" on Bowman for DRC...
…but I see you working. It’s not an idea without it’s merits.

Anyone else...
…starting to get nervous about our BACKUP QB situation?
Not hating on CK7, but man, this is looking like a BETTER TEAM than the one I originally thought would sneak its way to 10 wins (because of the horrid NFC West).
Would hate to see a bad injury to Alex derail what SHOULD be a year where we win the NFC West.

Not Worried
The pass that he made to Josh Morgan was a beautiful pass. That one pass alone made me believe in him.
Direct snaps to Kendall Hunter
could probably win the NFC West.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.

That was our strategy last year.
Andy Lee can only carry the team to 6-10.

I am happy with out QB situation.. all 3
As well as Harbaugh has Alex Smith going.. I bet he is right on top of CK too.
Also, on another note about our QBs, I was thinking that with a good season, Alex Smith may want to resign with the Niners.
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
Feelin' you on, Harbaugh...
Love Harbaugh, his handling of the team, the QBs, etc.
I just wonder if even HE expected such a fast start… Way more pressure on a Rookie QB w/each victory the 49ers post.
If forced to play, the stakes go from “opportunity to gain valuable to experience” to “lots at stake, don’t blow it.”
Not that they’ll make a trade, but I’d be surprised if they keep winning and we DON’T hear about some veteran QBs coming in for at least a workout.

Bowman is a top 5 ILB in the league right now, and will continue to ascend. No thanks
Alex Smith 86%+ QB rating with 22+ TDs this season, hopefully! :)

I like your thinking but no way do we trade Bowman, he and Willis have the middle sown up tight
Also, Lloyd doesn’t know our offense so he would be in the same position as the new WR, Swain, we just got. I think Harbaugh wants to have more young blood across the board. I am sure Crabtree, Williams and Ginn can handle things and even Swain will be able to work in if needed.
I also see more of the 2 and 3 TE sets so we don’t need Lloyd.
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, either way, YOU'RE RIGHT !"
I think Swain is pretty familiar, at least terminology-wise.
He is gonna be mostly special teams anyways though

Especially once Edwards is back full-time.

Neither.
But I’d give up a 3rd for Reggie Wayne if that’s what they want for him.

I wouldn't, nope not at all
He wants big dough and is up in age.

How long is he under contract for?

I thought he wanted a new deal now, not sure on what he is signed under at the time though.

Maybe you're right, I didn't realize he was turning 33...
But it may be worth it if he is under contract for the next couple of years.

Wayne
He’s a free agent after this year.

Forget him then...
I like our guys anyway… we will get Braylon back soon anyway. We’re set I think.

Think though… Sounds great on paper… Crabtree, Wayne, and Edwards.. plus Davis and Walker.

I don't think there are any good trades out there (unless Lloyd for a 5th only)
DRC for Bowman kind of intrigues me… difficult choice. Bowman has been playing at a pro bowl level and DRC’s team is getting shredded.
For me, no way on a mediocre cornerback for a linebacker that could wind up in multiple Pro Bowls someday.

same
Bowman is in his 2nd year, didn’t get much playing time last year and has stepped up where TKO left off. No way we would trade him, unless it was for Megatron (which would never happen).
Who's Lloyd Edwards???
>>" with Lloyd Edwards and Crabtree out there"<<
After all was said and done, a lot more got said than done.
undrafted free agent this year
he’s really stepped up

Trading Bowman for DRC is a terrible idea
But going after DRC in a trade in the offseason isn’t a bad idea at all. The Eagles have had major tackling problems and that is his biggest weakness, so perhaps they’d be willing to move him for a 2nd or 3rd. He’s got a ton of ability as a pure cover CB, and the 49ers D can cover for one bad tackler.
niners can draft another cb in the draft high
resign rodgers. your starting cb next year culliver and rodgers with a first rounder competing for the nickle spot. that sounds much better than a trading for a softy in drc. drc does not like to tackle against the run and there is a reason the cards traded him away. eagles are having a problem tackling because their db do not tackle and their linebackers do not tackle either.

Right
None of the Eagles DB’s or LB’s tackle well, but all of ours do. Which is why it might be wise to take a chance on a very talented cover player. It doesn’t preclude you from also taking another CB high.
niners dont need a diva, a guy who takes plays off, a guy who does not tackle, someone who will be overpaid, and someone who is a free agent soon. waste of a draft pick

First round pick competing for the nickel spot?
If Rogers is re-signed and Culliver is looking like a quality starter, then taking a Corner in the first would just be overkill. Pick a guy at another spot where they can make more of a difference. Safety, OT, WR, NT, maybe even OLB would all be better ideas than CB if Rogers comes back and Cully is looking good.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
and all of those positions have good starters also……………………..

They would have more room for improvement than CB
in the scenario where Rogers comes back and Culliver has earned a starting spot.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
DRC is mediocre
He got a few picks on horribly thrown balls, mix in some good return skills and people believe the hype that he’s a top tier CB
Sometimes, things can blow up if you trade for another player.
I say, stay with what you have. Its proven to be sucessful . Why mess with winning ways. Lloyd willn’t help that much considering the Niners are a Ball control Offense. We have enough short yardage recievers with potential medium to long range catchers. Leave it alone and play with what we have and learn to be more sucessful. Also, the Eagle will ask for a arm and a leg. I rather save thoses pick for next year and select someone else. Two picks are too much.
Trading Bowman for anyone is a bad idea
Really. Anyone.
Justin Smith is something else. 100% Effort! 100% Class!
"I was just running toward the ball," Smith said. "The guys in front of him were making him slow up a little bit. I just went for the ball and, luckily, it was there."
yea, we have no idea what his ceiling is...
and if he improves upon the current play…..wow. wouldn’t want to see him in another uniform.
DRC is soft.
"You know whats funny? I always thought uhm dogs lay eggs and I learned something new today" Peter Griffin
No, No, No.....Not so fast my friend!!!
I am not trading Bowman for a mediocre DRC when Culliver is playing better than the coveted Patrick Peterson right now. We have control of the middle right now, and I would like to maintain it. Let’s jus wait and see what we can steal out of the draft, (i.e.) “Culliver”
butch
B. Lloyd wouldn't be the worst thing in the world...
… I really don’t think it’s necessary though.
But the DRC for Bowman would make me want to puke. Who knows if Bowman continues to play at this high of a level, but I think you’d be giving up way too much. Even if we assume that DRC plays at a high level when he gets here, who are you going to replace Bowman with?
