Aldon Smith Named NFL Pepsi Rookie Of The Week
Big congratulations are in order for 49ers rookie Aldon Smith as he was named the Pepsi Rookie Of The Week for Week 5. Smith had two sacks in the 49ers rout of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The last 49ers rookie to win such an award was Patrick Willis, who took home the award four times during his rookie season.
It is a vote of popular opinion, but it says something that he nabbed the award over a field that included Cam Newton, A.J. Green, Andy Dalton and Doug Baldwin. The 49ers have been in the media a lot this week and I have to think that helped. That's not to say his performance isn't deserving of the award, but you know how popularity contests can sometimes roll.
Let's hope this is the first of many awards for the 49ers outside linebacker/nickel defensive end. The team will need a strong showing from him this Sunday as he could be in line for a lot of playing time. The Lions pass the ball a lot and the 49ers will likely spend more time in their nickel defense than any other formation. It will be another test of his endurance and skill.

Is Aldon a Linebacker or Defensive End?
To me he is more explosive with his hand on the ground rushing the passer.
He is officially an OLB
since that’s his position in the 3-4 base defense.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
Terrell Suggs syndrome. Smith is an end in nickel packages but backs up Haralson in the 3-4 base.. BUT 3-WR packages seem to get more looks. He’s a hybrid.

He's becoming more well-rounded each and every game.
He’ll be an every down player before the end of the year. I’d bet on it.

i'm not sure
but, as long as he’s out there on the field, quite frankly, i don’t really care. that guy looks like a special player. he’s the one player coming around the edge that doesn’t seem to have a hard time with the guy in front of him. not only has he shown me speed and strength, but he’s shown athleticism.
GO 49ERS! The last time I felt this good was when Garcia was in town. Yikes!

He's been getting a lot of pressure and QB hits, but yeah, I agree
He’s due for a break out game.

If he hits Stafford 4 or 5 times...
I will forgive him all those off-sides penalites.
Agree that he is due.

When Jim Harbaugh says "more is more" I think he is trying to say Moore is more.
I voted for him for 10 minutes straight...
Im glad my efforts werent wasted.

I like how the Niners were not even in the original highlights for Sportscenter Sunday
But we have been discussed all week long with much praise to Jim Harbaugh. And all I have heard is that we have the game of the week vs. the Lions.
The pressure is on...
The Lions are the ones everyone is talking about, and they are the ones who are undefeated. They are playing us at home, and we are missing our two best recievers.
The pressure is on the Lions more than it is us.
Play to Win!
Justin Smith is my new hero.
Kid's got too much game

Aldon Smith and Bowman will be studs for years to come
Both all-pro potential.
Alex Smith 86%+ QB rating with 22+ TDs this season, hopefully! :)
Surprise star of the week projection:
Kyle Williams – 8 catches, 130 yards, 2 TD’s.

Big time numbers...
Not necessarily impossible though…
I think he could sneak in under the radar and blow the place up. Starting off with a couple of slants for big gains and nice YAC.

I agree...
Their nickel CB is one of their weak links IMO… Could definitely sneak in there…
Pretty sure Berry and Coleman are the nickel guys...
Not positive, but Hester had his best success in nickel packages…
Ya... I'm fairly positive now it's Aaron Berry...
Only a 2nd year guy…
If he is and their 4th guy has to come in, I like that statline even more.

Some sweet highlights...
Can’t wait to see him get some good playing time…
I think if used properly (which I think Harbaugh will do soon enough) he could give Welker a run for his money, though still a year or two out for that
Definitely...
And also has the wheels to stretch it like Desean. Guy gets mad separation.

him and Morgan
our my fav players, but I have always been an underdog person too
If Williams gets his shot, he may not be an underdog for long. Btw, Morgan sent out a letter to the fans on CSN Bay Area if you haven’t seen it yet.

Awesome, thanks...
Amazing guy… Love the confidence in wanting to stay here… I see no reason why he doesn’t get a reasonable extension…
He'll be here.
Harbaugh wants him, team wants him, organization wants him (as far as I know)… I believe him. I think he’s coming back and I believe that he wants to be all those things to the organization and team as well.

Of course... it was Williams' first career TD grab ...against Dallas none the less.
Whole team was smiling.

Maybe. It could be likely that both receive considerable targets going up against the Lions back up DB’s.

Aldon "The Condor" Smith has ridiculous arms...
I know we’ve talked about it before but:
Gosder Chrilus stands 6’7" and has long 35 inch arms…
Aldon Smith stands 6’4" and still has bigger arms at 35 1/2 inches…
He has an advantage over one of the largest lineman in the game… That is CRAZY…
It's Barrows nickname...
I’m just fond of it so I’m spreading it around as much as possible…
Like the guy from that basketball game back in the day?

I hope he bats a few laser beams from Stafford down at the line. He should line up on whichever side Megatron's on
and just throw his long ol’ arms up there to try and get a piece each time.

I think he's in for another big day...
Multiple sacks 3 weeks in a row is a big possibility, even though I know that line is solid…
He's 6'4" and his hands reach his knees...
Standing up straight… It’s remarkable to see…
Too bad he doesn't play CB, we'd have our answer for the RZ jump ball to Johnson this Sunday.

NO unwarranted confidence…:) The Streak will be over when the buzzer sounds and the niners win, not a moment before. No matter who picks us.

2 for Aldon
2 for Ahmad
Go Niners!
Justin Smith is something else. 100% Effort! 100% Class!
"I was just running toward the ball," Smith said. "The guys in front of him were making him slow up a little bit. I just went for the ball and, luckily, it was there."
Anyone want to guess the sacks over/under for Aldon?
Shall we start at 2?
I am hoping for 5 but would bet 1. He gets a good leg tackle like he did on Vick.
