Golden Nuggets: TEAM LET'S DO IT LEG GO

#TEAM LET'S DO IT LEG GO never fails, I gotta say. The 49ers have yet to lose a game when I tweet that out just before it starts, so it's going to be come a ritual of sorts. I have Anthony Dixon to thank for this, so I'll be sure to get at him on Twitter.  One thing I've been wondering is just how much people are going to be focusing on the Jim Harbaugh-Jim Schwartz postgame scuffle a day later. Something tells me that people are still going to be upset about it but me, personally, I'm going to link some stuff today and then not link anymore the rest of the week. Anyway, let's get to the links. Go Niners!

its gonna be an awesome Thanksgiving!

2 marquee match ups, and FINALLY we get a Thanksgiving game! Get to eat Turkey and watch my team!

yup

It’s the game I’m looking forward to the most.

This is the first year I’ve been catching games online — does anybody know if I’ll be able to watch the Thanksgiving games through FirstRow? (since the Ravens vs. Niners are being broadcast through NFLN, I’m not sure)

Win or lose, at the end of the day I'm just happy to see the Niners play well... Okay, winning is good. I prefer winning.

Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Really didn’t expect to be 5-1 when looking at the schedule after the Seahawks game. No, Alex didn’t play great yesterday, but he is gonna have games where he doesn’t play as well as he has for the most part his season. Everyone has the odd bad day. Think it’s important that he comes out firing for the Browns game after bye week to show that he’s moved on from the copuple of lapses in yesterdays game. Years gone by he’d seem to dwell on those mistakes so I think it would be a good sign if he comes out confident and more like he was against the Bucs.

As for the Harbaugh-Schwartz thing, what on earth was Schwartz playing at?! Maybe Jim could’ve toned down his celebrations when shaking hands with Schwartz, but that’s all it was. An overjoyed coach having arguably his biggest win to date getting a little overzealous with his handshake. Definitely didn’t warrant Schwartz acting like a complete clown and chasing Harbs down the field like he did. I can see this one rumbling on and on though unfortunately.

by Ben Goodchild on Oct 17, 2011 4:02 AM PDT reply actions

Yeah, I think they’re going to keep bringing up the Schwartz/Harbaugh thing for probably the rest of the season. It’s good media fodder, as Mindy Bach said.

I think the best thing to come out of this will be that people will now start paying attention to the Niners, if only to see if coach Harbaugh has any more on-field “antics” initially. I wish it didn’t overshadow yesterday’s game but hopefully it’ll be outshone by future games (and success) from the Niners.

Win or lose, at the end of the day I'm just happy to see the Niners play well... Okay, winning is good. I prefer winning.

by El Dorado on Oct 17, 2011 5:03 AM PDT up reply actions

They will bring it up forever, every time those two coaches meet ...

… in the same way that Harbaugh and Pete Carroll now cannot meet without that one argument they had (which they have probably both forgotten long ago) being dragged up. I think these things generally interest the media much more than the individuals involved, so whilst Harbaugh and Schwartz have doubtless already moved on to laughing about it (although maybe not laughing about their fines) the media will continue to replay it and discuss it.

I could see a scenario where the Niners and the Lions meet in the play-offs and all the talk before the game is of this grudge match between two coaches who would long since have forgotten about what happened yesterday.

by Ben Goodchild on Oct 17, 2011 6:33 AM PDT up reply actions

well said

I think AleX already moved on from the bad passes he made in this game by making his best throw at the absolute most important time. 3 road comeback wins in a row and his best pass under the most pressure. That’s all new.

If I were in Schwartzy’s shoes at the end of that game, I would have been very upset, but I probably would have seen Harbaugh’s excitement as a compliment. JS should be flattered that Harbaugh was so happy to have beaten the Lions.

You think Barrows got a little carried away with the Harbaugh-Schwartz thing?

I started to wonder what exactly I was reading when I first glanced at this sentence:

As he ran onto the field, Harbaugh … untucked his sweatshirt from his khakis … and then, still moving, came upon Schwartz. He pressed his right hand into Schwartz’s …

Whoa – that’s enough Matt. I thought I’d picked up one of my wife’s romantic novels …

But seriously, as I said last night, I LOVE the way the Niners players looked out for Harbaugh. That proves what a leader he is. WHO’S GOT IT BETTER THAN US?!

I love that about Harbaugh

and I absolutely love that the team is incredibly chippy and feisty but not on an individual basis. They’ll leap to defend a teammate at the drop of a hat and I think that’s fantastic.

BSPN: Mike & Mike..

I wakeup in the morining & as expected the scuffle between the two Jim’s gets upstaged over a team that took down an undefeated team, on the road, with 120 yards in penalties, holding the opposition to 2 -15 on 3rd downs, while only being 2 -14 on 3rd downs themselves. So I gladly turned it off. Boy our culture is more about the idiotic nonsense these days huh!?!?!

What's YOUR deal?!?!

I think it’s absolutely hilarious. The post-game tops it all off looking at their comments. Harbaugh says he might have shook his hand too hard, while Schwartz is pouting about getting cursed at. Talk about acting like a 3rd grader.

Exactly. He should have been a man and gone to his locker room, even if he didn’t like how Harbaugh interacted with him. Who cares if the other guy is cocky? Game’s over…get on with your life.

Also, why would Harbaugh even want/need to “disrespect” Schwartz? I really don’t think that was his intent at all. He was just super excited. He didn’t “shove” him. Shwartz must have never gotten his (site decorum) kicked before.

7 Seasons and 4 teams and he has 1 good season under his belt where the Broncos were down by 20 most of the season and were just throwing it around in desperation.

And with our conservative offense

We’ll get the Redskin version of Lloyd, not the Denver version. His monster season in Denver he was targeted like 150 times with about 50 of those being on routes of 20+.

I know i'm getting carried away

and overexcited.

But wouldn’t a Ravens-49ers Super Bowl be the coolest game ever?

I hope the team doesn’t react as i am. They need to stay focus. But i can’t help but think about it. (And obviously, the Packers and the Patriots are big obstacles… but still, it’s in my fantasy so it’s allowed ;)

Me too, getting carried away thinking about the possibility

of seeing the Ravens and Niners play each other at a super bowl. I think it could happen, while these two teams keep getting better.

NOT THIS YEAR THOUGH! Gah! Hope not. Jim Harbaugh is on a roll but a coach can only have so much success his rookie year. I want to see the Niners as contenders in a couple of years, when they’re more polished and also when they’ve gotten a chance to open up the offensive play book and work on those more aggressive plays.

Win or lose, at the end of the day I'm just happy to see the Niners play well... Okay, winning is good. I prefer winning.

Anything is possible with a D like ours

And we have 2 full weeks (no travel) to heal and practice and open up the O play book before taking on Cleveland at the Stick.

My favorite part of this win...

I’d like everyone to raise their hand who was saying last week we needed to win TOP AND turnover battle while limiting penalties in order to have any shot at winning this game.

Let me point this out, we lost both of those and had an unacceptable amount of penalties, and we still won. Smith did not play very well in this game either. Our defense has got to be absolutely terrifying for other teams right now. Aldon Smith for DROY, hands down.

Love Chris Culliver's comments about Calvin Johnson

“You have to be physical with him,” Culliver said. “All his plays he had on me, he pushed off on me. Refs didn’t call it but I ain’t complaining.”

And also:

“I had tight coverage on him. All he did was try to release outside. And when he went inside, he tried to push me off. He was complaining. And I told him he had to shut up because he’s too big for that.”

Win or lose, at the end of the day I'm just happy to see the Niners play well... Okay, winning is good. I prefer winning.

If that's true...

Trent Baalke is a freakin genius, because he took a “reach” at CB in the 3rd round who just happens to be able to lockdown top receivers in the NFL. Oh, and that kid only started 7 games at CB in college. How dumb will other GMs feel?

by 9thevolution on Oct 17, 2011 12:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Well I don't know about Baalke, maybe he did have a large hand in it

But I would bet my hat that there is some guy working for peanuts and spending 90% of his life on the road working for our organization that knows how to evaluate cornerback play — and the new staff finally decided to listen to a guy the old staff wouldn’t.

by 49erLou on Oct 17, 2011 12:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Yup

Most teams seem to give Calvin Johnson lots of space because they’re worried about his big play ability. They don’t play tight coverage on him, and I don’t think he’s used to that.

by smileyman on Oct 17, 2011 2:27 PM PDT up reply actions

I love that we're 5-1

This is way beyond my expectations. But let’s not get carried away. The Packers are better than us. Much better. The Cowboys are better than us. The Giants may be. The Saints may be. We should not look at ourselves as the NFC favorite just yet. Perhaps we can get there, but I think our Achilles heel of having Alex Smith at quarterback will eventually bring us down.

However, I’m certainly enjoying this ride. Harbaugh was the right choice times 1000. I knew that coming in. I was one of the biggest supporters of getting him as coach. He’s fiery like Singletary, but he also has intelligence to his exuberance. We are largely the same team we were last year, but this year we’re out-scheming and out-thinking our opponents. Last year, we didn’t outscheme or outthink anyone.

So yes, let’s enjoy this. I think it’s pretty safe to say we’ll win the NFC West and get to host at least one playoff game. I think we can beat most teams on our home field. But going on the road to Lambeau? We’re not quite there yet. Maybe next year, after another draft.

But I don’t think we’ll be a truly elite team until we get a better QB than Mr. Smith.

by Joe Como on Oct 17, 2011 9:07 AM PDT reply actions

Is Kaep that QB, do you think, after a couple of years of sitting out and learning while Smith’s success means there is no clamour for him?

by LondonNiner on Oct 17, 2011 9:25 AM PDT via iPhone app up reply actions

I honestly do not know

Drew probably has a better-educated opinion on that question. I hope that we already have our future QB on the roster, but I don’t know that we do.

And don’t get me wrong: Alex Smith is fine as a “Trent Dilfer-type” of quarterback. He can manage the game and limit the turnovers and let our defense, running game and special teams actually win the game for us. But that’s a very precarious way to build a championship team, especially a dynastic one (the Ravens, after all, only won that one Super Bowl with that formula).

I LOVE our defense. PWillie and Bowman look like clones out there. Our D-Line is underrated and relentless. Gore is nearing the end of the line, but is still a quality back. Hunter looks like the real deal as far as a replacement goes. Crabtree is a good possession receiver. Edwards has the skill to be a #1. Not sure about the mental make-up though.

We have many of the pieces of a long-time contender. But we will not be elite until Alex Smith is no longer under center. In the meantime, I will cheer for him to do his best and for the team to go as far as it can with him at the helm. I cannot emphasize how much more fun THIS is than the crap we’ve been through over the last 7 years. :)

Anyone else see the whining over at the Field Gulls when we won?

My gawd they are annoying. I really think the Seahawks have the same building blocks we do to be really good and compete with us in the division, maybe missing our dominant LB corps, but they have a potentially really good team. However they were completly trashing our NN blog and that was pissing me off. I mean sure trash talk my team and the coach till your heart is content, after all, I dont care since we are winning and that just goes with sports. But dont talk trash about the NN blog. If anyone wants to look through their game day blog yesterday you will see what I mean.
