Dashon Goldson...BEAST!!

Hey fellas,

Wanted to throw out the idea that either at the end of the season or even now, somebody should make a highlight reel of Goldson and the hits he's giving out this year. He's got some good ones and hes getting them on a pretty consistent basis. Would do it myself but dont have the equipment or the know-how...

How about no. Mr Ballhawk, does nothing of the such. How about pass deflected? Wait he doesn’t do that.

He’s forcing fumbles and making receiver’s think twice about going over the middle. Got a pick yesterday after being in perfect position. DBs have played better since he’s been inserted into the starting lineup. He starts for one of the best defenses in the league. Finally, he lays people out!

Sure, he may not be a pro bowler but he’s played solid. Why not celebrate his talent for bringing the hammer?

by abasketballfan on Oct 31, 2011 8:11 PM PDT up reply actions

he also gave up a td yesterday from my understanding; whitner also forced that fumble yesterday.

I was thinking about the hit against TB. Probably 50% his fault on the TD. Like I said, he’s not perfect but overall he’s a solid player.

I like some of the hits he has made this year. I’d like to see that video

by abasketballfan on Nov 1, 2011 5:48 AM PDT up reply actions

He's not making WR's think twice about anything. He is making good WR's salivate at the chance to torch this team deep.

The front 7 is the only reason Goldson has not been exposed. You should watch him more closely.

+1000000000

see last year when we had no pass rush

Call me cautiously optimistic....because I know what the Niners do to people who have real optimism (see the last 8 years).

by crumpedup15 on Nov 3, 2011 9:47 AM PDT up reply actions

At the same time, be thankful Goldson is there

Replace him with Reggie Smith or Maddie Williams and we aren’t just exposed, we’re bent over and violated.

by Ougadas on Nov 7, 2011 3:31 AM PST up reply actions

Last year he was banged up with multiple injuries

Plus, it’s hard to judge anyone on last year. Sopoaga, Bowman, Brown, McDonald, etc… weren’t anything special last year

by abasketballfan on Nov 15, 2011 10:10 PM PST up reply actions

Yeh some shoddy play late against the Browns

He might have been relaxing too much – he needs to keep the intensity all game.

Overall he has been playing well. Forcing turnovers is huge and I enjoying saying “get some!” at the bar.

by mrg80 on Nov 1, 2011 3:28 AM PDT up reply actions

That was absolute B.S.

My guess is that he figured that Brown would make the tackle or push him out of bounds. If he didn’t pull up, he would have tackled Cribbs before the end zone.

Moody and complicated

by FanBelge on Nov 1, 2011 9:00 AM PDT up reply actions

I don't mind Goldson. I know he doesn't make every play

but i’m content having him as our free safety. He certainly strikes fear into some of those receivers going across the middle.

by renke81 on Nov 1, 2011 7:56 AM PDT reply actions

Excellent point

the only comment I’m paying attention to as you are fair in your assessment about Goldson, and… I also agree. I think every team needs a player like Goldson, and the 49ers have one. Besides, I don’t really see any better alternative.

Good day to you.

by Waiting4JoshMorgan on Nov 2, 2011 9:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Safety is probably a priority in the next draft.

But what is the point of hating on Goldson now? He has his strengths and weaknesses. They are there for all to see.

I have a feeling the coaching staff might have some polite suggestions about perhaps playing whistle-to-whistle.

by zacksf on Nov 1, 2011 11:08 AM PDT reply actions

Goldson is not a good safety in terms of making plays on the ball. Whitner is a better option to move forward with, he makes more plays in the run game and passing game. We need a safety that can play deep coverage and it is not Goldson.

This is too good *not* to post again: Boom goes the dynamite!

Dashon Goldson is a living witness to the fact that you can still hit people hard and legally in today’s NFL.

So far, 2011 has been Harbaugh-some!

Your comment doesn't make any sense.

He wasn’t fined, therefore, it was a legal hit.

The original comment was
you can still hit people hard and legally in today’s NFL.

You replied with the 15-yard penalty. But, there was no fine, therefore making the hit hard and legal.

I don't think he understands...

If he lets the guy make the catch and get a first down, you despise him for allowing the reception…

He made a great play on the ball, exactly like you’d want, and happened to be wrongly penalized for it… What’s he going to do? Let the guy casually go past him?

A stupid argument on Hunter’s part…

by Takeo33 on Nov 3, 2011 5:04 PM PDT up reply actions

goldson made no play on the ball. he went for a big hit on the player.

argument is that the penalty was called and will be called again in the future. fine does not matter because it does not affect what happened in the game.

"You know whats funny? I always thought uhm dogs lay eggs and I learned something new today" Peter Griffin

by HUNGRY HUNTER on Nov 4, 2011 12:48 AM PDT up reply actions

no need to call it stupid

all hunter is saying that hits like that do run the risk of being penalized, rightly so or not. I don’t agree with HH, you let the boys play the game instinctively and if the ref messes the call then so be it. Just because I disagree with him does not make the concern stupid

by mcwagner on Nov 4, 2011 12:28 PM PDT up reply actions

your lack of counter argument proves your position wrong.

"You know whats funny? I always thought uhm dogs lay eggs and I learned something new today" Peter Griffin

by HUNGRY HUNTER on Nov 4, 2011 12:49 AM PDT up reply actions

Original statement:
Dashon Goldson is a living witness to the fact that you can still hit people hard and legally in today’s NFL.

Your counter argument to that quote:

like the 15 yard penalty on sunday…

So, you are arguing that Goldson a) doesn’t hit hard, b) doesn’t hit legally or both. Your counter argument is his hit from Sunday’s game, and how it drew a penalty. Obviously, option a is not true, you yourself have said this, so you can’t be talking about how he doesn’t hit hard. There’s also video evidence that he does hit hard. So, the only possible part of the original statement that you could be arguing against is that he hits legally. Again, your counter argument to that is the hit from the Browns game.

In today’s NFL, if a defender leads with his helmet or shoulder to the head of a receiver, it is illegal. It will draw a 15-yard personal foul penalty in the game, and a five figure fine after. Those hits that players are fined for are illegal. Those that aren’t fined, aren’t illegal.

When you look at the replay of the particular hit that you used as your argument, Goldson led with his shoulder, and connected with the shoulder of the receiver. This is not illegal. It did draw a 15-yard penalty. But he wasn’t fined. Therefore making his hit, the hit that you used as your counter argument, legal. Referees do make mistakes, and the only reason he was flagged on the play was because refs these days are told to call anything close. Live it did kind of look like he did hit his helmet, but the replay proves otherwise. In fact, Goldson has never been fined in his 5-year career.

I don’t understand how these two comments of yours are related to your original statement.

ok,ok, lets imagine there was no 15 yard penalty.

so when a game is lost because of a penalty with no fine we will just pretend there was no penalty and that the niners won.

Too bad the refs are garbage this year

Yes the hits are legal, but these idiot refs have still called at least one personal foul on his hits every game. He’s playing some of the most physical, LEGAL, football I’ve seen in awhile and the officials are doing everything they can to punish us for it.

Who's got it better than us?! NOBODY!!!

by CraigRED&GOLD on Nov 1, 2011 11:54 PM PDT reply actions

He clearly needs

to improve his coverage or his understanding of the coverage, or his positioning or whatever. That is clearly a weak point.

However, we can still enjoy him crushing people.

And he did have a pick in the end zone.

Joe, Jerry, Steve, and....Who is next?
