PrintWeek ten of the 2011 NFL season is upon us and that means the return of Thursday Night Football. The Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers will square off tonight in a game that has significant ramifications in the AFC West. The Chargers, Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs are all 4-4 and looking to gain some ground on each other. This week features Raiders-Chargers tonight and Chiefs-Broncos on Sunday. We could have two teams tied for first by Sunday afternoon, or we could have one team in first and three teams tied for second.
Short weeks are always difficult to handle for teams given recovery time needed following a brutal Sunday football game. But of course it provides another prime time revenue opportunity for the NFL, so these are not going away anytime soon. Tonight's game features the announcing duo of Brad Nessler and Mike Mayock. I have to say I'm looking forward to this duo. Nessler is a solid college announcer and Mayock knows plenty about football to provide some sound insight.
I think the Chargers end up with a ten or so point victory over the Raiders, but you never know what can happen in a short week. The Raiders are trying to get Carson Palmer on track and I actually think he could have a solid game tonight. Whether it's enough to beat the Chargers is another question entirely. Philip Rivers and the Chargers could have a field day against the Raiders defense. I think we could be looking at a potential shootout.

It seems unfair, but at the same time how’s the DB to know there’s a pass coming.
He didn't even look to throw really,
just got the ball and chucked it to the corner. The DB was already all over him. Raiders aren’t fooling anybody with their trick plays anymore, everyone knows it’s coming haha.

you should have at least a decent offense. The defense has gotten pretty banged up, too. This just looks like coaching failure right now.

Gates is old and ancient. He can still catch the ball, but he can’t get open. They haven’t even tried to find a suitable replacement. Mathews has been injured almost just as much as he’s played. And you can’t forget the huge debacle of how the GM handled the Vincent Jackson contract situation. Jackson has missed a ton of time.

My favorite thing about the Raiders is that they play their rookies.
They aren’t shy to play them and you might say, it’s cause their veterans suck, but who doesn’t get excited at watching young up and coming potential out there making plays. I wish we saw more Kyle Williams myself.

Palmer can potentially be their franchise QB, and they usually do better with their late round picks rather than their first round picks anyways.

They'd waste those first round picks anyway.
Raiders like to draft those guys with the highest possible ceilings but the lowest possible floors as well. Their best players are usually from the lower rounds.

I’m typically not that harsh on LBs. I saw a lot of him standing on his tip toes trying to see what was going in the back field than not delivering the hit most of the time. LB isn’t that technical, you are assigned a few gaps, if one opens up you run through it. No need to sit back and try to peak.
I noticed that too...
But I also see Navorro Bowman do that on occasion as well and it seems to work just fine for him. The part I cannot agree with is in that he doesn’t hit. Because while at ‘Bama he made some RB’s blow snot bubbles.

The have a great RB and their passing will probably get better with Carson Palmer. But their defense is terrible. I mean, their linebackers (except McClain, I guess) suck, their secondary is ragged, and they can’t stop the run. They couldn’t stop the FUCKING READ OPTION, which is the only play Tim Tebow runs.

Their defense is still pretty solid, not elite, but solid. Clearly unprepared for a stupid gimmick read option last week, doesn’t make them a bad defense.

Live 105.3 FM now the Raider's game network?
What the heck? When did this happen?
Was channel hopping on the drive home tonight and it was all football, from at least 4pm and on. I practically lived off of listening to Live 105 when I was in high school, back in the late 90s. The station definitely sucked after it got bought by Clear Channel, but now sports? This is crazy.
Win or lose, at the end of the day I'm just happy to see the Niners play well... Okay, winning is good. I prefer winning.

God the Chargers suck.
One of the most over-rated teams in the NFL.
And how ‘bout the end of that game? They didn’t look like they were even trying. I found it difficult to watch. Such terrible, terrible football – the whole game.

He left Cincy and they made the playoffs three seasons later (after not making it for 15 seasons).
More painfully, his one season in Philly was one of only two seasons they missed the playoffs in an ongoing eleven year run.
He came so close with the Niners the past two seasons, left, and will appear to again have left a team at the wrong time

I feel bad for him
He deserves it. He should go to the Patriots or Steelers or Packers when his next deal is done. Just to get in.. I think. The guy is nothing but a class act. Hard worker. Great pro. I was so pissed when he left. Hindsight its alright with Bowman becoming Willis 2.0, but I just want to see him go out on top. He deserves it.
