49ers vs. Redskins Injury Report: Ray McDonald Still Sidelined

Fooch's Note: I'm running out the door, I'll get a post up tonight or first thing tomorrow. Aldon Smith was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for October.

The 49ers and Browns released their injury reports for Wednesday and the most notable name is that of Ray McDonald. The 49ers defensive end injured his hamstring against the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday and is apparently still bothered by the injury. He sat out practice today but there is no word yet on his availability this Sunday. If he cannot play Sunday, Ricky Jean Francois would get the start in his place and Demarcus Dobbs would get some backup rotational time.

Justin Smith also did not participate in practice, but he was simply given a veteran's preference day off. As the season moves on, I would not be surprised to see a few more of these veteran's days off mixed in. The team plays a physical enough brand of football that getting some days off will be good long term and keep players from getting a little too cranky from practice.

Redskins tight end Fred Davis was a DNP today, but from the sound of things, he will likely play on Sunday. He was in a boot on Monday but he is out of the boot at this point. London Fletcher and Trent Williams were limited in practice. Fletcher was questionable last week but played, so I suspect he'll be out there on Sunday. He is having quite the resurgence in Washington and he will be a guy to keep an eye on. Williams has been dealing with a high ankle sprain. I would be surprised if he played Sunday, but if he's on the practice field, you never know.

Hamstring injuries

Mine have always taken too long to heal. Hopefully McDonald’s is minor. Every player in the NFL has nicks at this point in the season, but the Niners are fortunate so far. knocks wood

It’s funny how things come full circle. Bill Walsh used a short passing attack against teams that were built to defend power running. Now Harbaugh is using a power running attack against teams built to defend short passing.

Hmm..

It took me about 2 weeks to be 90% when i messed up my hamstring playing soccer.. I probably would’ve been 100% before 2 weeks if I had all those doctors and trainers that the 49ers have lol.. but than again I’m 21 now and I was like 18 when this happened.. McDonald is a lot older than that but we still have a beast D-line with RJF and Ian Wil.

I can guarantee you that none of those players will be playing for the Browns this sunday.

Benefit of Justin smith not practicing

Is a lot more snaps for donna and Ian Williams some first team reps which will be especially useful if McDonald is unable 2 play.

They're getting the 1st-team reps anyway with McDonald not practicing.

RJF

would be the main beneficiary of no McDonald in my mind, no justin smith means even more reps which was what I was getting at.

I'm not too worried about injuries on defense

The redskins offense is poor enough that we can afford to miss a couple of guys. I’m excited to see what our offense can do this weekend though. With edwards and crabs getting more involved it should be fun.

Aldon Smith Defensive Rookie of the Month?

Wait til he gets in on whatever punching bag is back there for the skins this weekend…

Looking to put San Fran*six-o* here some time soon!

Heard it was the first time

a 49er was named Defensive Rookie of the Month since Patrick Willis. That’s impressive.

Well

I expect McDonald to play on Sunday and if he does the Skin’s are in grave trouble in regards to pass protection. They have allowed 14 sacks in the last three games, while San Francisco has 12 sacks in their last three games.

Despite the Win

McDonald’s lack of presence was noticed. I don’t know if anyone else saw RJF completely gassed at the end. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a DL completely stop playing 2 seconds after the snap.

Harbaugh will find a QB and he will succeed.
