49ers Vs. Steelers: Sleeping With The Enemy
Normally I would just post a FanShot to remind folks to check out the Ask Niners Nation FanPost I set up at the opposing team's site. However, I also wanted to point out a pretty solid FanPost written by a Steelers fan who lives in San Francisco. I disagree with his comments about Smith's running ability, his classification of Ahmad Brooks, and some of his comments about the wide receivers, but otherwise I think he nailed a lot of points about the 49ers.
There is plenty to discuss heading into this game, particularly with the Steelers dealing with the James Harrison suspension and injuries to QB Ben Roethlisberger and C Maurkice Pouncey. The Steelers have listed those two, as well as safety Troy Polamalu as questionable for Monday's game.
Roethlisberger and Pouncey are both dealing with grade one high ankle sprains. Polamalu was a bit of a surprise addition as he deals with a hamstring issue. He was probable with a knee injury last week, so this is something new. We'll see how it shows up on the injury report later this week.
The other significant injury is a hamstring injury that has cost OLB LaMarr Woodley some time. It sounds like he is likely a go this Monday.

Is pretty good. I still think the Niners’ strength of schedule is deflated by a lot of teams going on a slide though after playing them. Lions, Bengals, Eagles, Giants, and even the Bucs were all very solid to great wins at the time they occured.
They were grade 2 ankle sprains for Ben and Pouncey I think

I can't believe
The Cleveland Brown training staff allowed Colt McCoy back into the game on Thursday night. He told his Dad the next day he had no idea how the game ended. James Harrison is a tool.

HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG
he’s done a lot of illegal hits the past few seasons but this one was clean and nasty.
This one was clean?
He targeted McCoys head from the beginning.

Harrison is a head hunter.
He’s a repeat offender. What does this tell me?
a) He’s not learning.
b) He doesn’t care.
The No Fun League has cracked down on all sorts of penalties, but this one is something they should continue to punish perhaps more harshly. Glorifying it doesn’t help.
A) first incident since last season week 10 of this type of thing
B) Why would you think he doesn’t care? You think he wants to hurt the team?
I HAVE the memo

I think that fact that he said LOL
about it is reason enough for people to think he doesn’t care.
Maslow's theory of higher needs does not apply to Patrick Willis. He only has two needs: tackling people and finding people to tackle.
Why though? It is funny that he was suspended while players like Seymour are not. I suppose one can interpret it any way they want, but the Bus said he talked to Harrison, and that’s what he was LOL’in about.
I HAVE the memo
With two D's, for a double dose of this pimpin'
I don't know honestly
I don’t personally think him saying LOL means he doesn’t care, I can just see how some people could and would interpret it that way.
Maslow's theory of higher needs does not apply to Patrick Willis. He only has two needs: tackling people and finding people to tackle.
that’s a ridiculous statement. If McCoy continued running, as he appeared to be, he would have put his shoulder right in his chest. But I guess if you had your mind made up before the play even happened that whatever he does is dirty and with malicious intent, you will always see it that way.

With regard to Deebo
I think one thing worth pointing out is that almost NO ONE sees him objectively.
Steeler fans see their favorite intimidator, a tough guy who makes huge plays, and someone who was recently DPOY.
The rest of the league, for the most part, seems a phenomenal player who leads with his head too much, and tried to hurt people.
I think he falls VERY much into the category of “how you feel about him depends on who your team is”. Personally, I like him, but I thought the McCoy hit was dumb, given his circumstances, and the fact that he could have wrapped up and blasted him into the turf w/OUT using his helmet.
Not saying he should be suspended for it. But, his team DOES need to talk to him about the helmet hits.
And, just to throw you a bone b/c I know it’s a controversial topic, I will point out that the refs ABSOLUTELY need to start throwing flags when Steelers players get hit in the head by opposing defenses; the fact that they haven’t is crap.

Fair
Amazing, a legit DPOY who apparently has trouble tackling in the way it is supposed to be done.
Then again, while Troy CAN tackle, he’s succeeded pretty well with the missile approach too.
I thought you guys taught fundamentals over there in PA?

hell, I don’t think Troy can tackle either. I saw him on one of those late show awhile back, and Jimmy Fallon (I think) asked Troy to show him how to tackle, and Troy’s answer was “I don’t really know how” And then his actual demonstration was pretty funny as well.
As far as Harrison, proper tackling isn’t what got him in to the NFL. That way didn’t work for him, so he got there by being the meanest, baddest man on the field.
For your last question. Players are usually taught fundamentals way before they get to PA. Blame their pee wee coaches.
I HAVE the memo

Clean?! Are you joking.
He drove with his helmet into McCoy’s chin. McCoy didn’t suddenly jerk in a different direction and cause the helmet-to-helmet contact; Harrison came up and delivered a very dirty, late, hit to McCoy’s chin with the crown of his helmet.
That is not ok.

The NFL rules do not protect a runner from H2H (nor linemen, nor other defensive players)...
…the confusion in this particular matter is whether McCoy was a runner, or a QB. Harrison felt he was a runner. The league refuses to acknowledge that a QB can be at risk in any situation, but its current rules do not support that.
On that basis, the suspension of Harrison is bogus; McCoy was a runner. However, the League says differently, and Il Duce Goodell will get what he wants, even if it means re-writing the rules later to support his decision.
United we Stand, melded like Steel
To Roger Goodell, We'll never Yield.
That said
given who he is, and the amount of scrutiny, wouldn’t you have preferred he lowered the shoulder, and wrapped up? I DON’T think it merited a suspension, but I do think he could have prevented it, and given his circumstances, should be more careful; he knows he hurts the team if he gets suspended, and right or wrong (mostly wrong), I think Goodell was looking for an opportunity to suspend him.

No, I meant it looked late in real time.
Still, I don’t understand why a player is leading like that with his head, anyways. That’s not how you tackle, and as a result the hit was late and helmet-to-helmet and clearly dangerous.
Don’t know that I agree with suspending him; though I’m not a huge expert on Harrison’s history or the NFL rule book. Of course, it doesn’t seem like Goodell is, either.

How the hell
Did Jacksonville get so many prime-time games this year. They have sucked for a few years no.They have had games against the Ravens Chargers and Falcons(thursday) Does anyone really want to watch them
they need the stadium to sell out
so the NFL is trying to save them

have been really bad. Like okay Giants VS. Cowboys was a good one in a long time! Prob since the Thanksgiving match ups. Who the hell wants to watch MNF Rams vs. Seahawks? yawn.

has been up and down, but overall, has had a lot worth watching.
MNF, on the other hand, has been dick-punchingly bad this year. Every week, I look to see who is playing (because generally, I LOVE MNF), and I see, and am like “oh, great, it’s the who-gives-a-sh*$@%^ bowl again…”

Steel Curtain "Power Rankings"
It is pretty evident Pittsburgh feels they can send their practice squad to Candlestick for an easy victory Monday night. While the 49ers “power ranking” has slipped with their disappointing performance in Arizona, they are ranked 10th in the Steel Curtain blog.
that's just the way the 49ers like it, and probably need it.
played best when we weren’t supposed to win
We're as good as we play each week, no better, no worse.

Offensive ?
No Frank, I don’t find the principal author of “Behind the Steel Curtain” to be “offensive”, I just don’t agree with with his “Power Rankings” and apparent total lack of respect for a 10-3 49ers team that as you pointed out have a near identical strength of schedule for opponents in their 10 wins as the Steelers ……
He has the Texans, Steelers, Jets, Giants and Falcons all ranked ahead of San Francisco while proceeding to piss on the 49ers multiple times in his analysis.
The Giants? …. really, didn’t we beat them in New York?
The Falcons & Jets? Barely hanging on to a Wild Card spot
And I look forward to the upcoming Week 16 “Power Rankings” after the vaunted Steelers lose what is going to be a very tough game at the ’Stick

teams have been disrespecting us all season
see Lions, Eagles, hell even the Bucs fans thought we had no chance, and how did all of those games turn out?
Maslow's theory of higher needs does not apply to Patrick Willis. He only has two needs: tackling people and finding people to tackle.
There are things in his personal power rankings that I don’t necessarily agree with as well. I just don’t understand why it bothers you so much. It’s not like you’re on the team. I’ve had a similar conversation with Bengals fans, and my question for you is the same. Who cares if people don’t respect your team? Don’t you think it’s better that they don’t? That way, when they sneak up and punch the rest of the league in the mouth, it will be that much sweeter.
Isn’t that better than say…if the Packers, who are universally considered the best team in the NFL, were to lose in their first playoff game?

again, that’s just his opinion. He has been right about a crazy number of things though. (the Lions mini-collapse, the Eagles not living up to the pre season hype, and a few others) so it’s not like he has no business making his point. Most of us on the site know you guys have a good team, and we expect it to be a close, hard fought game.

Steelers have some obnoxious fans, but...
The write-up and those on the blog seem pretty good. I was stationed with six of seven fans of the Ohio Steeler variety, and starting in 2005, they just went BANANAS. It was BAD. I actually went to a barbeque where this guy had decorated his bedroom with the terrible towels (yes he did have a wife). I would so desperately like to see the Niners take this one. This is my #2 game behind Dallas. If we just beat Dallas, Steelers, and Seahawks twice this year I would have been happy. Now I’m hoping for knocking off Dallas in the playoffs. Playoffs ?!?
Looking to put San Fran*six-o* here some time soon!
lol at the guys bedroom
my man cave might one day look like that (would love it to be as tacky as that commercial “whats with the lamp?” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2K4qlyaJu8 ) but yeah, steeler wives have to put up with all kinds of stupid BS, like 2 to 6 jerseys, towels, etc. its amazing how much stuff can be had with a team logo. But like a lot of steeler fans, my whole family has been fans forever. When I moved to VT, people thought I’d become a Patriots fan. And then how do you answer to the family?
