The Monday Night Football line is often a little later to arrive than Sunday games, but we finally have something. Odds Shark was delayed, but BetOnline opened their line installing the 49ers as 2 1/2 point favorites over the Steelers. The home team gets three points just for being at home, so naturally this means odds-makers think that people think somewhat highly of the Steelers.
I would not be surprised if the delay to get a line out was due to the numerous injuries and James Harrison's suspension. The Steelers are dealing with a mess of issues that could very well swing this line significantly. After all, if Ben Roethlisberger did not play, Charlie Batch would get the start. Whatever you think of the Steelers defense, a Charlie Batch start alone could swing this line three or four points. I don't think Roethlisberger misses the game, but it is still worth noting.
The 49ers lost only their second game against the spread with Sunday's loss. They had entered the game as 3 1/2 point favorites. There are plenty of reasons I choose not to bet on the 49ers. I can never bet against them and betting for them might show some manner of confidence, but I don't need the heart-ache of a victory that still costs me money. Just not worth it.
