Why do we not use Vernon Davis more?
Yes, yes I know he attracts double coverage and its useful to use him as a decoy and yes, he is a great blocker on both run and pass plays. So what?
Gronkowski is probably the best TE in the league. Jason Witten is right up there and even Graham from the Saints (a Rookie) is having a stellar season. Graham aside, Gronkowski and Witten have been good for some time now. They get double-teamed and they block well, but they still get thrown to, put up good numbers and win their team some games. The Cards game was crying out for some Vernon time.
I believe one of the announcers even commented on Sunday, when you have an asset as good as Vernon Davis, you have to throw to him, even when he is in double-coverage, you need to trust him to do his thing. The Cards trust their biggest asset Fitzgerald to do his thing in heavy coverage, so should we.
I truly believe that upping Vernon's numbers and tightening up the O-Line are the keys to success post-season. Give Alex the time to find Vernon = success!
