Time and time again we've heard that the Niners must improve in the red zone if they are to win in the playoffs. Over and over we've heard about the merits of the New Orleans and Packers offense, and how the Niners are not good enough on offense to beat them. That the Niners don't put up enough points, don't take advantage of opportunities. I highly disagree.
Consider the 2007 Patriots: they were the most prolific passing offense in history, possibly the greatest offense of all time. The only team to beat them won 17-14 in the Super Bowl. Defense and low scores can, in fact, win championships. A good offense helps, but I see no reason the NIners can't ride their success to the Super Bowl.
Also of note: the Niners put up 20 points against the second best defense in the league last night (based on points) allowed). Only 3 teams this season have managed to put up 20 or more points against the Steelers. That is not a sign of a weak offense. Of course, the defense and special teams put the offense in position to win. But the fact remains that the 49ers offense is good enough to win in the playoffs, and I think they've proven that over and over this season.
