Who do you want to replace Braylon?

Braylon had a disappointing stint with the 49ers. He takes a lot of criticism on NinersNation, but never really got to full strength after his knee surgery. He was a stand up guy while on the 9ers and I wish him the best.

His departure, and Delanie Walker's injury, leave some open spots on the roster. Who do you want the 9ers to get?

I'm excited about who the 9ers might sign and will await another great decision by Harbaalke. Will it be a grizzled veteran like TO or Randy Moss? Will it be almost-contender like Mike Sims-Walker? Someone from our Practice Squad, or perhaps there is someone on another teams practice squad with untapped potential just waiting for a chance to play.

After the jump, there are 5 intriguing players on other practice squads and poll for who the 9ers should pick up:

Star-divide

Dorin Dickerson, WR/TE 6-2 230 4.4 40, Patriots: Dickerson was regarded as one of the best tight end prospects for the 2010 NFL Draft. He was drafted by the Texans in the seventh round. He is a versatile and talented athlete with experience at WR, RB, QB, DB, KR, LB.

Aldrick Robinson, WR 5-10 176 4.43 40, Redskins: A wide receiver at Southern Methodist University where Head coach June Jones called him the fastest player he has ever coached. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Chase Coffman, TE 6-6 257 4.78 40, Cincinnati: Coffman was drafted by the Bengals in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He was highly regarded coming out of Missouri where he showed great hands and was productive in receptions, yards, and TDs.

Tori Gurley WR 6-5 230 4.5 40, Packers: Gurley known more as a physical possession wide receiver was signed as a UDFA by the Packers out of South Carolina. He led the Packers in pre-season receptions with 9 catches. He excelled in high school in both football and basketball.

Isiah Williams WR 6-2 205 4.38, Seahawks: A 2009 undrafted free agent who initially signed with the Ravens out of Maryland. His college coach said he had more talent than Darius Heward-Bey. He's been with a lot of teams already and yet to find a coach that coax the results out of him.

I'd like to see them get Gurley and either bring up Konrad Reuland or get Coffman or Dickerson.

For one game, assuming KW will be good for the playoffs, Hastings/Matthews is fine

But if the team expects to still be lacking in the playoffs, I’d expect someone like MSW. Just please, NO TO or Randy Moss.

I'm just a simple Giants fan trying to make my way in the universe.

Take Aldrick Robinson off the list

Redskins just released Ryan Rorain and promoted Alrdrick.

that's why we have them on the squad

with the hope that they can become contributors. They are the best bet.

Win or lose, at the end of the day I'm just happy to see the Niners play well... Okay, winning is good. I prefer winning.

I like Coffman

Niners have had pretty good luck with Mizzu guys. Yet i believe the best option is bringing up our PS players.

Candace Parker

from the WNBA. She’s 6-4, 175lbs, great redzone threat and given the state of the Rams corners I think she’d be a great stop gap while ginn, walker and williams heal up for the playoffs.

His name starts with Dominique and ends with Zeigler

Seriously though, he could be the most logical option. The coaching staff knows him from TC and preseason, and he should have sort of an idea of the playbook. Plus, he has golden hands.

by neder on Dec 27, 2011 1:40 PM PST reply actions

This choice intrigues me

And it’s probably because I was a Ziggy fan and wanted to see him make the final cut. He’s probably not going to be considered by the front office anyway, but if they do give him a try out, it would be very, very interesting to see if he could fit in for us now…

Ginn and Williams are nicked though

and if we’re down to 3 healthy WRs on gameday that could be a serious issue. While only having 3 active WRs wouldn’t hurt our formations by itself (since we have VD who can line up out wide), all it takes is one guy to get nicked midgame before our formations become a disaster since we’d only have two actual WR. VD needs to do what he does best and be a TE, line up tight and get loose after a block, not be playing psuedo-WR. Unless Williams and Ginn are both 100%, I think we have to sign SOMEONE, and even then it makes me nervous.

Alex Smith is my homeboy.

I'm coming around to that too

Originally wanted OL, but now WR might be the best option. Still, they should go BPA amongst their top positional needs which could be WR, CB, FS, OLB, OL in no particular order.

by GB9er on Dec 27, 2011 4:20 PM PST up reply actions

CB shouldn't be a big need.

Rogers should be franchised if that’s what it takes to keep him.

We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.

Zeigler is my favorite

Hes a good player.. However between T.O and Randy Moss I think it can go either way.

T.O actually I think has the better attitude. The last few years hes been quite. Just wants to Win. However he is hurt still no denying that.

Randy Moss on the other hand can be annoying as hell. He could be a pain. Maybe not for a few games though. But the talent is there and he seems to be healthy and he still seems like he has a few years left. Not sure why he retired.

Between the 2 I go with Randy Moss. I think for a few games..esspecially playoff games. He will shut up. Between both of them they dont do much talking when their winning.. (Look at Randy in N.E)

by Collin B on Dec 27, 2011 3:43 PM PST reply actions

Lets get Moss and TO both!

Maybe a double negative will equal a positive!

Feel a bit bad for Braylon. He seemed like a good guy and I was impressed by his support of high school kids in Cleveland, helping to fund their college. Too bad injuries meant he never gave us what he was clearly capable of.

by Togna Balogna on Dec 27, 2011 4:02 PM PST reply actions

I hope he comes back strong...

maybe we’ll sign him again next year… who knows.

by GB9er on Dec 27, 2011 4:21 PM PST up reply actions

Bad Mistake on the Front Office's Part

In my view, releasing Braylon Edwards at this point has been a premature decision. Unless they have somebody in their sights who they know for a fact can fill the void at the Flanker position, they had no business cutting Braylon Edwards this prematurely. While we’re at it, I can only guess that the best option is for the 49ers to pursue Terrell Owens, who has extensive knowledge of the West Coast Offense, where he started and had his greatest years as a 49er under the tutelage of the great Jerry Rice.

I really hope they have somebody who can fill the void.

by JHill26 on Dec 27, 2011 5:23 PM PST reply actions

What void? 15 catches for 181 yards isn’t much of a void to leave.

i say we go for "retired" players

remember this guy

but i kinda want this guy back http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Johnson_(tight_end)

and split vernon out wide

What happened with Legos, they used to be simple. Oh come on, I know you know what I’m talking about, Legos were simple. Something happened out here while I was inside. Harry Potter Legos, Star Wars Legos, complicated kits, tiny little blocks. I mean I’m not saying its bad I just wanna know what happened.

Questions and wild ideas

First off what’s the status on both KW and more importantly Delanie? Is it true that Swain is still on the team? With all due respect cut the man. Also release Norris. You realize that your rookie FB got picked as an alternate for the Pro Bowl. You have something there that you’ve ridden over a good part of the year. That allows you to pick up 3 players and I say go with the following:
WR Dominique Ziegler
WR Tori Gurley
TE Dorin Dickerson
If Delanie goes on IR then move up Reuland from the PS.

by ChesapeakeBay9er on Dec 27, 2011 6:52 PM PST reply actions

A bunch of turnover is the last thing we need

I’d rather have someone that’s practiced with Alex versus people that haven’t. Alex doesn’t seem to be able to just plug in a WR and go with it.

There is just something AWESOME about signing T.O.

I’m a younger fan and my favorite play I saw live was Young to T.O. vs. the Packers in 98 I think. T.O. back just seems awesome for some reason. We haven’t been to the playoffs since he left and imagine signing him now lmao…
