Tag! You're it...
Like most fans I am keeping track of all movements that are going on in the NFL, whether it's CBA news, 2011 prospects and of course free agents. Recently more and more franchise tags are being used to ensure teams keep their best players. New England was first to act even though there is uncertainty with CBA talks not taking place and NFLPA officials questioning the validity of the franchise tags. Regardless I have listed the players tagged so far and will keep updating this as we hear more information:
Players Tagged: (Top 2 Free Agent 49ers might be interested in)
Indianapolis Colts: Peyton Manning QB- $23 Million
Philadelphia Eagles: Michael Vick QB- $17-20 Million
Baltimore Ravens: Haloti Ngata NT/DE- $12 Million
San Diego Chargers: Vincent Jackson WR- $11 Million (Volek QB & Floyd WR)
New England Patriots: Logan Mankins LG- $10 Million
Kansas City Chiefs: Tamba Hali OLB/DE- $10 Million
New York Jets: David Harris OLB- $10 Million (Holmes WR & Cromartie CB)
Pittsburgh Steelers: LaMarr Woodley OLB- $10 Million
Carolina Panthers: Ryan Kalil C- $10 Million
Minnesota Vikings: Chad Greenway OLB- $10 Million (Rice WR & Edwards DE)
Cleveland Browns: Phil Dawson K- $3 Million (Rogers NT & Wright CB)
Jacksonville Jaguars: Mercedes Lewis TE- $7.3 Million
Miami Dolphins: Paul Soliai NT- $12.5 Million
Oakland Raiders: Kamerion Wimbley OLB- $10 Million (Asomugha CB)
Teams not expected to use Franchise Tag (Top 2 Free Agent 49ers might be interested in):

I'm somewhat surprised Vincent Jackson was tagged
I guess the Chargers did it to give them leverage in trade negotiations, because I really don’t see him back there next season,
His name is Ydwin, your argument is invalid.

I wonder if Jackson will hold out again
I hope he does so AJ Smith will finally say that they need him.

Just like to point this out....
With the franchise tag, you receive the average of the top 5 salaries at your position or 110% of your previous salary, whichever is higher. How is Manning making more than Vick?
Manning vs. Vick
Manning is getting 110% of his previous salary which was really high.

I meant debt
I think I remember seeing that if he made over 10 million half would go straight to paying his debt.
When he filed for bankruptcy in2008, he owed between $10-50 million to creditors

Carl Nicks
One of the best Guards already at his age. I doubt the Saints let him go, but they already have a huge contract in their other guard Jahri Evans and if there is any kind of salary cap, they might not have the money to re-sign Nicks. Just think of this O-line having basically two Iupatis. Any RB will be able to fall forward for 4 yards.
And while I think we should go after Asomugha, I would not want Cromartie at all.

I agree Nicks would make a immediate contribution… to think of a O-line like this: Staley, Iupati, Heitmann/Bass, Nicks and Davis.. Gore would have 2,000 yds for sure.
Asomugha would be a great pick up as well if we trade or re-work Clements’ contract
Joe and Steve were under the same system for years... don't expect ___?__ to be super so soon. Alex Smith is no longer expected to do much for this team in the future... on to the next one!!
I've been thinking about our O line, and I have a question.
I have seen little/no tape on Boone. Does anyone have any knowledge of his particular skill set? Could his skills possible translate to guard? What about moving him to guard and letting him compete with Rachal for the starting position. Worst-case scenario, if Boone doesn’t beat out Rachal, he at least can then play both tackle and guard and be a back-up at 4 O line positions, making him more valuable than he is now.
After all was said and done, a lot more got said than done.
"Could his skills 'possibly' translate to guard?" omg

no tag and you may not be wanted
Antonio Cromartie- has any reporter ever asked if he knows the names to all of his nine children?
"You know whats funny? I always thought uhm dogs lay eggs and I learned something new today" Peter Griffin
I find it funny..
That few want Cromartie, but everybody wants Peterson.
Both are aggressive corners who have made a living being more athletic than the competition rather than having sound technique or good route recognition skills. Both are famous for being on highlight reels and the only way you can apply the term “lockdown” to either of them is if you ignore all the catches they give up and focus on the big plays they make.
I think the difference between Peterson and Cromartie is that history. Although most people have not mentioned any red flags about Peterson, Cromartie has a history of not playing hard and personal issues that may or may not affect his performance on the field.

he's kinda a big mouth jerk
but he’s a good player, id be open to him being here as long as coach doesnt think it would hurt team chemistry, etc….

There was another FA thread that was started
that was really really good and had some good input to it. If you guys worked together to get it going we could have a really good FA thread to go along with the really good draft thread the forum has going. I’ll be willing to help out and get us a really good FA thread going if you wish. Just give me a holler and Fooch and smiley and I think Drew and I know Tre have my e-mail. Lemme know and we’ll work to get something going. If you’re interested.
