2011 NFL Draft, 50 in 50: Vincent Brown - WR - San Diego State (8 of 50)
Note: For those who look forward to these everyday, I apologize for the vacancy of having a 50 in 50 piece yesterday as I had something very important to tend to... and no, it didn't involve drinking green beer. Anyhow, there will be two of them today to make up for lack of none yesterday. Enjoy.
Some 49ers fans believe that wide receiver is a high priority. Some folks think that they are fine with the current receivers on the roster. And then there are those who fall somewhere in between and think the 49ers should draft a receiver but not until the final day of the draft.
The main reason that most of the people making a case for a wide receiver early on is that Michael Crabtree has not yet emerged or stepped in front to be the dynamic receiver that everyone thought he was.
Most Niners fans however, still believe that he has it in him to be great and just needs a decent quarterback to get him the ball. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen.
There are some mid-round receivers that could step up enough to push Crabtree to either be better, or stake his claim as the number two receiver on the team.
Vincent Brown seems like a potential candidate to possibly make that happen to one extreme or the other. Let's take a look at him below...
There wasn't a huge selection to chose from on youtube for this clip here. However, it is a large enough piece in order for you to get what Vincent Brown is bringing to the table. As you can see, he isn't exactly a speed receiver but has very good hands. There wasn't a game that I watched that Brown dropped a pass; albeit I didn't catch too many San Diego State games. But in the small amount that I was able to catch over the last few years, Brown just seems to possess that special quality.
Here are his stats:

Summary: Brown had a very good offseason. Perhaps one of the best out of this year's wide receiver class. He definitely made a name for himself and has jetted up the draft board with good performances at the combine as well as the Senior Bowl. He demonstrated that he knows the game very well and can gain separation in a split-second. I do believe that Brown is a guy that could potentially be a number one receiver on a team similar to the 49ers that doesn't have a clear-cut answer at the position.
PREDICTION: 2nd - 3rd Round

I can't really vote on this poll
because it all depends on which player is there. I feel that we should be open to pick a WR in any round.
Kellen Moore is awesome
Katie Mcgrath is our savior

Peterson is available at 7…but other than that I’m open to drafting a receiver

Round
I voted fourth round. I mean if somebody quality drops before then so be it, but otherwise 4th seems about right. I think the team can afford to wait.
Vincent Brown and Jonathan Baldwin are the two most overrated WRs in the draft
Lester Jean, I have ranked over both these players.
1.QB Ryan Mallett 2.G Ben Ijalana 3.CB Jalil Brown 4.NT Kendrick Ellis 4.CB Kendric Burney 5.S Tyler Sash 6.WR Lester Jean 6.RB Chad Spann 7.OLB Jamari Lattimore 7.Kicker 7.CB Richard Sherman
Why do you think that Brown is overrated specifically?

He is neither a good route runner nor fast
These were my opinions before the combine, then he ran an atrocious 4.68 40 time. He’s 5’11 and weighs 187lbs, so you can discount his frame from giving him any advantage. I don’t see terrific ball skills, possibly from lack of watching SDSU. Just don’t see him finding a way to get open in the Pros.

Interesting...
At this point, and from what I have seen, I have to disagree. Guess we’ll find out for sure once he arrives.

I'd say the 4th
We have more pressing needs, QB, CB, OLB and maybe FB. We have some good WR’s now, if we develop them. A burner would be good in the 4th to create separation.

Whether that’s true or not remains to be unseen.
"I always thought that Crabtree was a hard worker. He's not faking it. He's not the type to hide behind the curtain... he's always been a guy that works hard."

Good catch. fixed it
