2011 NFL Season: 49ers Under Consideration For 2011 'Hard Knocks' On HBO
Although the 2011 NFL season remains up for debate, side businesses are planning as if the season will start like normal. This includes the HBO reality show "Hard Knocks." The show follows a team through training camp and provides an inside look at how a team prepares for the regular season. It now looks like our San Francisco 49ers are under consideration to be included on "Hard Knocks."
The series is also considering the Dallas Cowboys, the Seattle Seahawks, the Miami Dolphins, the Denver Broncos, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to PFT, the Bucs are apparently the favorite to get the show. I picked up HBO at a nice discount recently, so it'd be pretty sweet if the 49ers could get on Hard Knocks. It makes sense to at least considering given the addition of Jim Harbaugh as head coach. Throw in a potential quarterback battle and it could be worthy of solid ratings.
What are your thoughts on potentially appearing on "Hard Knocks" ? It seems like a long-shot given some of the other teams involved, but the 49ers do have a story worthy of the show, as well as some characters worthy of television. Is there concern about how it might affect the team's preparations? This, of course, is all assuming there is a 2011 NFL season. Otherwise we get Hard Knocks: Courtroom Edition.

I like it. The 49ers do not need distractions, but I've only heard good things regarding the crew/team working the show.

AWESOME
I would do anything to try and get the 49ers on Hard Knocks. Love the show and I would really enjoy watching how the off-season happens. It would also be cool to see the players personalities and relationships amongst each other.
i dont know...
does this team really need another distraction in the offseason? they have enough to worry about without acting for the cameras.
On the flipside, most of these guys love the camera and I can see it being positive for them. They have something to prove, they might like the camera more at that point and it could be good. And like I said, I’ve never felt like it was that big of a distraction, if at all.

Last season should have been the year. Balmer, Coffee, McC, Sing soundbites, Raye wearing funny hats. A golden opportunity missed

It would just be Jimmy Raye constantly asking the sound guys if they could hear him or if it sounded garbled or not.
They could have a nice little feature though, where they go on a daily hunt for the mythical rat.

Next episode of Hard Knocks
With the CBA still unresolved, we will have the entire episode cover Patrick Willis as he plays PS3, takes a nap, and eat lunch.

I think we’d all watch that. So long as one episode was just us watching Takeo Spikes as he watches The Notebook.

I would watch the scariest man I have ever seen clutching his teddy bear and crying into it. But I would not laugh at it.

I didn't like the idea of Hard Knocks at first....
But I think the new coaching staff, coupled with some of the veterans we have, would keep things focused on really getting things together. I would love the inside look at training camp this would give. I’m all for it, but I’m not getting my hopes up.
The one thing I could see benefitting us, is that with the pending new stadium, I think Jed would push strongly for this type of publicity if the coaching staff is on board with the idea. Something tells me though, that Harbaugh is going to be no nonsense once the offseason can finally kick off and he won’t be interested in doing it this year.
last year would have been much more entertaining lol

I don't have HBO
But the 49ers have to be among the league leaders in burning questions heading into 2011. It’d also be a good opportunity for Harbaugh to introduce himself further to America, like he did by whupping Virginia Tech in January.

Would anyone watch the Bucs?
At least it isn’t the Cowboys for the 3rd time. BTW, the Cowboys the first two times were the worst Hard Knocks.
Would anyone outside of NN watch the 49ers?
The Bucs are one of the more talented, young, up and coming teams in the NFL even if they’re still under the radar. Couple that with Aqib Talib’s and Lagerrette Blount’s penchant for punching people I imagine there’s at least moderate potential for something exciting to happen.
The Cowboys are a tired act. The Seahawks, Broncos and Dolphins are uninspiring and crappy teams.
As far as the 49ers are concerned I bet Singletary would have been more Hard Knocks material than Harbaugh. Who wouldn’t want to watch Singletary drop trout and make Crabtree cry? We’d all probably end up liking Davis and Willis more while hating Crabtree.

Does being on hard knocks
make it harder to retain anyone you’ve cut because the league gets a lot more exposure to those bubble guys?
if so, it might not be worth it, as much as I’d like to see us on it…
That's very likely....
But we had this problem last year as well with Boone because of NFL.com’s on the bubble series. That spread the word on guys who deserve to be on a team, but might not make it based on roster limitations. Now, this would be worse because it focuses on your entire training camp squad.

There is literally no way this is at all true. Fluff pieces on NFL.com aren’t going to make teams with millions of dollars tied up in scouting aware of a player. Neither will Hard Knocks.

Aw man
It’d be sick to see Michael Crabtree and Alex Boone on camera ahaha.
I'd love it
Nothing like getting a behind the scenes look at the team you love. At the very least it means watching Joe Staley on camera more, how could that be bad?

Nope
We don’t need the distractions or the circus in Harbaugh’s first year. I’d rather start winning first, then you can put us on hard knocks…or not.
Alex Smith is garbage...
I would love to see this happen but next year is much more likely for the 49ers
Last year I was reading about how it would be the Jets and the article (can’t find it) said HBO likes to pick a team that is on the upswing. It will be the Bucs this year, but IMO we are a strong contender for 2012 and I can’t wait to see it.
As much as I would spend the extra $10 a month on my cable bill if they decided that
I think it’s probably a good idea to wait until Harbaugh’s second year to do that.
Some of us will do our jobs well and some will not, but we will be judged by only one thing -- the result. -Lombardi
if they do cowboys again
ill puke buckets!
with the 7th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. The San Francisco 49ers select.......
