Advance notice - Niners Nation Trivia Challenge, Wednesday 6 July
Fooch's Note: LondonNiner has run this contest the last two weeks and it's been great fun. While we'd love to see more folks join in the contest, at the very least swing by to see it in action as contestants vie to assert their 49ers trivia dominance.
Hi guys -
This is a heads-up that on Wednesday we will be running the third installment of our weekly LIVE Niners Nation Trivia Challenge.
The quiz will start at 1pm Pacific this Wednesday, 6 July. The theme for this week will be the 49ers in the 1990s.
Sign up after the jump so that I have some idea of numbers and can prepare the correct number of questions.
If you're new to this weekly quiz, have a look at the inaugural one we ran, which was a very general quiz, and the second one, where we ran a theme of 2000-2011 (to appease the likes of Manraj who complained about too many questions from ye olden days of the 50s and 60s in the first quiz).
The winner of quiz one was ToddCommish, while quiz two was won by Teekay. Congratulations both. If you want to join that nascent roll of honor, and if you know a bit about the San Francisco 49ers 1990-1999, then drop by at 1pm Pacific on Wednesday.
The main thing to remember is that we play live and there is no Googling. If you are tempted to cheat, I ask you to remember that Bill Walsh watches over every one of us and he will be mightily disappointed if you ruin the quiz by using Google. It's a fun thing so don't spoil it by cheating.
And feel free to mention in the comments below that you'll be playing, as a sense of numbers will help me to prepare the correct number of questions (I don't want to prepare questions on the fly; I did that last week and actually got one wrong, because I incorrectly recalled that it was Marc Bulger's ribs that Patrick Willis broke in a touchdown-saving tackle when it was actually Matt Hasselbeck, so from now on I'm going back to checking and double-checking in advance!)
London.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Niners Nation's writers or editors.

I'll be at work like last time
I’ll try and make it if I’m not too busy. Again, I will be a game time decision.

I never make it to the contest
But I do enjoy reading the action

I will plan to participate ... assuming that my wife doesn't blind side me with "must be done" chores.
But, here’s a plea. Some of us are old men (I’m probably the oldest) and need an extra advantage … when do you plan to return to trivia featuring the 50’s through 80’s? I figure that I should have less competition there.

Having done the first week as a great big jumble of everything from 49ers history, I then set about doing themed quizzes.
So last week was 2000s, this week will be 1990s, then I do 1980s, 1970s, 1960s and 1950s in that order for the next four Wednesdays after this one.
Then I’ll take a break in August, because I’m going on holiday, and I’ll return in late August with a few extra themed quizzes (eg one on Bill Walsh, one on the Super Bowls, one on 49ers Hall of Famers, whatever), and then in September when the regular season happens (IF the regular season happens!) I will run a weekly news quiz testing you all on your knowledge of the previous seven days. How does that sound?
Awesome. Awesome to the max.
"Blackmail is such an ugly word. I prefer "extortion." The "X" makes it sound cool." - Bender Bending Rodriguez
Eleanor Rigby - "Greatest Song" or "The Greatest Song"?
Kaepernick is some kind of Montana/Young/Roosevelt hybrid, and will absolutely ruin the NFL experience for the other 31 teams and their few fans.
Sounds like GREAT FUN! Many thanks for your efforts in organizing and presenting.

Question!
How much time does the trivia contest take up? I’d like to be a part of it, but I do have a schedule to keep.

time
Looking through, the first one had its first question at 1:13pm pacific and the last question was at 3:34pm. The second one had its first question at 1:01pm pacific and ended at 3:47pm. The end time depends in part on when LondonNiner has to head to bed but the start time will generally be around 1pm. And you don’t have to stay for the whole thing. Just post a comment when you have to leave.

As Fooch says, 1pm Pacific is 9pm for me so by the time we’ve done nearly three hours, I’m starting to (a) think about getting up for work on Thursday morning and (b) run out of questions!
But the key point is that you can dip in for literally one question if you wanted. That’s fine. When we came up with the quiz, we intended it to be knockout format, a bit like James’ Tournament of Badness, but like all good audience-facing products, we let the audience decide the best way, organically, and it just kind of happened that we ended asking a bunch of questions for whoever happened to be around at that time and then counting the scores up at the end.
I think last week a few folks just answered one question if they happened to be there at that point. It will either be a named round (ie I direct a question your way if you’re there and only you can answer, unless you get it wrong in which case others can have a go) or it will be Fastest Finger First, which we’ll do a few of.
If anyone is interested, have a click on the links above to the previous two weeks’ quizzes – you’ll get a good idea of the format there.

Most likely I will make it.

I can finally show off to the community how lacking my actual 49er IQ is. But I have a nonstop motor so I will keep getting answers wrong despite the giggles. 1st round draft pick 49er receiver? Who is Josh Morgan?
The winner of quiz one was ToddCommish, while quiz two was won by Teekay.
Wow, that’s a pretty bizarre typo. I know they both start with the letter “T”, but it still seems like you could tone down the autocorrect a little. Next week I expect credit for having won each of the first two quizzes, and possibly the third quiz even if I’m not here for it.
We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.
umm I won quiz #2 I don't know why he is saying Teekay won it.

your username doesn't even start with a T.
obviously you never won a quiz. I don’t think you are even eligible to win.

I’m not sure who either of you are, tbh.
