49ers Free Agents: Dashon Goldson Fires Back After Madieu Williams Signing

PrintThe 49ers reportedly signed safety Madieu Williams to a contract earlier this afternoon in a sign that maybe Dashon Goldson won't be returning to San Francisco in 2011. The move does not necessarily preclude a return of The Hawk, but it certainly does not bode well for his future in San Francisco. Goldson tweeted out a response this afternoon about the signing.
To answer sum of the ?'S I'm not sure wht tht move by the 9ers was for, I guess to scare me....well it didn't work. Try againless than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

This is not exactly a shocking response on twitter. He followed that up by stating he is keeping an open mind and will consider taking his talents elsewhere "where I'm wanted" whether that be "san fran, dallas or whreva."
It will be interesting to see how the 49ers handle Goldson and whether the Williams signing does in fact indicate the end of the brief Dashon Goldson era in San Francisco. I'd argue the signing of Madieu does not preclude Goldson from returning, particularly given the fact that Williams only signed a one-year deal. Bringing back Goldson in spite of the Williams deal would create some solid depth at the safety position, and much needed competition. I'm not holding my breath that Goldson will be back, but you never know how this will play out.

if we give up a second it’s for a very good safety and I’d like us not to give up a second at all..seriously. We’re going to need that. Quite possibly will need some CB, DL and WR help next year and another OLB and such. We still have needs and we’re not an “on the edge of the bowl” team.

I am also a Lions fan so I have had my chances to watch Williams play….Goldson is far superior to Williams on the field….off the field Williams is a good guy but, in all honesty, there is no way I would rather have Williams than Goldson playing for the Niners. Williams signing
It was all about the Williams signing. From what I can infer, people were asking him about the Williams signing and what it means about him. He said he wasn’t sure but given the nature of the business, if the 49ers were trying to scare him into a lower price he’s not going to blink at this point.
He’s ready to take his talents elsewhere if he needs to, whether that be SF, Dallas, etc. I’m guessing some folks came back at him saying he’s asking for too much or whatever. He viewed it as people trash talking him without knowing the full situation so he responded.

People use all forms of media to get their negotiating part and there in hopes of creating leverage whether it be on Sportscenter, on the radio, wherever. Twitter is just one more forum. Maybe it’s not the smartest thing on his part to show weakness, but I don’t think it’s any difference than any other medium in this regard.

Dashon Goldson, FS, 49ers. Age: 26
Carlos Rogers, CB, Redskins. Age: 30
Malcom Floyd, WR, Chargers. Age: 29
Kirk Morrison, ILB, Jaguars. Age: 29

Morrison > Grant. Morrison would be a great backup for both bowman or Willis, he may even challenge bowman as starter. Rogers is the best cover corner out there… and his experience can help all the young dbs in the team. Williams may be FS but not a consistent one, what he does bring is experience and can help Mays and Goldson when they resign him to see the field better. And Floyd would be a great pick up!!!!

Well, as much as I would love to bag on Goldson for twittercide, I cannot help but realize he is just as much a victim of the tech era as most other folks. STAY OFF THE TWITTER… It is the new age crack. Go type an email. Don’t send. Re-read it in 15 minutes. If you read it and think WTF and/or man.. this write is duuuumb, HIT DELETE. Why is it that so many people feel the need to butcher the crap out of English. We now how qwerty keyboards.. gone are the days where you had three letters per digit and you really needed to abbreviate everything.
Goldson is young and has serious potential. I may have to talk to my boy McIntyre and tell him to remind Goldson his tweets reflect poorly on himself, poorly on his education, poorly on his family, and poorly on his team… not necessarily in that order….

Goldson has potential? based on what, over blown stats? He basically had one good game vs the Cards that made him look like a keeper.
Does he even have 10 pd’s for his career yet? If not, Forget him, that is not potential. That’s below average.

I am not abdicating a fat contract… But signing him for a 1-2 yr contract is fine by me. Depending on the contract amount. Whatever his agent is asking for is obviously WAY too high right now. If other teams aren’t biting, that should be a clear shot across the bow…
I like Mays. The play against ATL I think it was was pretty sweet. But if Goldson could come in a nd let Mays grow a little more, and give competition to Williams… great. If he is going to fish for a fat contract, it seems apparent that is not the route the FO is going these days…

I can see the request for $40M
The awful Weddle deal screwed it up for everyone. Last year his agent was trying to ask for $30M, I’d say 5 yr at $24M with some contract stipulations is probably Goldson’s market. Still a decent price for FS.

I, for one, hate that the fan base blames everything on Singletary now that he's gone
but the man could not coach. Dashon is a young guy, with a lot of physical tools. He might be a really nice piece of the puzzle, and I’m glad it looks like the team can pick him up (on the cheap). The hard part about being an athlete on twitter is finding out how many internet tough guys want to start a flame war with you. This thread is the perfect example.

The buck stops here.
Who else would you blame. The man didn’t have the slightest idea how to game plan based on who he was playing. He force feed what he myopically wanted into HIS style; game after game. Many tried to blame Alex. But even the receivers said their were no options in their routes. So when other teams game planned it was easy to stop the 9ers. It was Singletary’s single mindedness that made the whole team look bad.

If by talents he means the ability to chase a receiver into the end zone after not reacting quick enough to the ball in air, then by all means feel free to take them wherever you wish. Goldson is a decent safety, but not even close to elite.
