49ers 53-Man Roster: Next Cut Down Date
Earlier this afternoon NFL PR man Greg Aiello tweeted that NFL rosters will have to be cut down from 90 players to 80 players on Tuesday August 30. Apparently that date was initially going to be the date to cut down to 75 players. The 49ers currently sit at a full 90-man roster, including PUP players Michael Crabtree and Dominique Zeigler.
In running down the 49ers 90-man roster, I'd imagine at least one of the two UDFA QBs will be cut on the 30th. I wouldn't be surprised to see only one cut with the 49ers trying to slide the other on to the practice squad after the final roster cuts. The first cutdown date will likely see two or three offensive linemen get cut along with at least one of the UDFA wide receivers.
Do you think there will be any surprises among the cuts? By that, I mean, do you think any of the more veterans might not make it through the cut? I don't expect any such cuts, but you never can tell sometimes.

moran norris
Easy choice to be first cut . Adds absolutely nothing to this team.

Kinda scared
Wonder what Frank Gore would think about it. They’re like buddy buddy to the max.

Think giving an extension to Gore would ease the pain
It’s a business. Gore knows that. Best players should make the team. Goodbye Moran.

If Frank Gore is going to complain about cutting Moran Norris
Then Frank Gore is not a "TEAM" player!
Filling a roster spot with a friend is a disservice to the team and the player who should have that spot.
been waiting for this
With all teams cutting its going to be interesting who all gets dropped around the league.
moran norris, cj spillman, alex smith, chilo rachal

maybe at final cut
But, I see him and Brooks starting at first, then Aldon over Parys, then he is cut in the 2012 offseason, or traded.
Not making much, 900K in Bonuses remaining on his last 3 yrs of his deal.
I wrote an article
about this earlier today, but that was before the NFL announcement.
So, it promises to change due to the fact that only ten players are going to get the ax. I really doubt there will be any vet cuts from the 49ers, but they could surprise.
I am looking at: Bethel-Thompson, Seth Smith, Nate Lawrie, Joe Hastings or Chris Hogan, Donovan Edwards or Derek Hall, Brian Bulcke, Sealver Siliga, Phillip Davis, Anthony West and maybe Fabrizio Scaccia
I want Norris cut, but the 49ers seem intent on keeping him for some reason SMH

interesting
Bethel-Thompson
Seth Smith
Hogan
D.Edwards
Bulcke or Siliga (I dont think they will cut both, not yet, usually you keep a guy who wont make it on their to give a guy(VET) some extra time off, so Justin Smith will be given some extra time to rest)
West
Maybe also Derek Hall, Im not sure on Scaccia, they may like with the DL, keep him till last week, to rest Akers, but who knows, just an emergency thing. Never wanna see an injury, especially your Kicker. lol
sealver siliga and fabrizio scaccia are probably practice squad candidates.

I need help somebody.
I’m on here through the mobile ninersnation, but the problem is when I try to go to the regular ninersnation, it says that the site is a virus. I know I should put this post somewhere else, but I can’t because mobile ninersnation doesn’t allow me to create a post. I’m including a print screen of the warning i get.

Feel sorry for Ryan Williams
looks like he went down to a devastating knee/ankle injury. I know he is on the Cardinals, but you never wish an injury on a young player like that

the cardinals running game is going to be total garbage this year. would not be surprised if they average 50 yards or less rushing this year. that is not going to be good for kolb.

It has been reported
that is is a ruptured patella (knee cap). It means 8 weeks of recovery time before brace comes off in order to even walk at a normal rate, this if it is just ruptured in one spot. It appears Williams’ was at least three spots. This means that he will most likely miss the entire 2011 season. The broader issue is his ability to play at a full level in the NFL again..

Yikes!
That’s just awful! Ya know, I wonder if fans can send players letters wishing them well? If so then I’d love to send one to Curtis Holcomb, Dontavia Bogan, and Nate Byham. Anybody know how if that’s possible?

Thanks for the info nocal
Damn, that is a huge loss for the Cardinals. Hope the rookie recovers, those injuries are awful. Cardinals had high hopes for him, especially as they took him ahead of a number of others with that second round pick.
Alex Smith 86%+ QB rating with 22+ TDs this season, hopefully! :)
I had
a torn ACL and partially fractured patella during High School (blind sided playing QB) I could never run more than 1/2 mile without my knee giving out for at least four years.
It is a horrible injury, and I never wish that on anyone

I’ve heard fractured patella’s are even worse than complete ACL tears

Had the best of both worlds on that one
Thank baby Jesus that I can actually play a flag football game today. Ryan Williams, who I loved watching play at Tech, will never be at 100 percent again. Unless modern medicine has changed a great deal since the 2000’s

Maybe it has
plus, these players and teams have literally millions of dollars, so they’ll be getting treatment shmucks like us could only dream about.
cardinals are going to be one diminsional at best.
their passing game may only be meagerly better than it was last year with their running game horribly worse than the horribleness that it was last year.

Is that dimension even good?
Did you see Kolb look like a complete rookie today: holding onto the ball two long, staring down receivers, making bad reads and not seeing the field. It was like watching Alex Smith circa 2006

Kolb looked very raw today
Without Hightower and now, Williams, the Cards need a big year from Beanie Wells. I think they are now firm favourites for finishing last in the NFC West. The Cards loved what they saw in Williams in training camp especially – the injury really is a big shame
Alex Smith 86%+ QB rating with 22+ TDs this season, hopefully! :)
you have to look who the qbs were last year, anderson, max hall, and john skeleton. kolb will probably be a modest improvement over them.

And to think
He’d be far worse without Fitz, did you see that catch he made tonight, on that horrid throw…wow.
Beanie Wells is good if healthy
and it still depends on the quality of that offensive line. Don’t count out Cards because of this. Wells just shot up fantasy boards.
Just like Alex Smith is good if

You're lucky.
The Cards are likely to have a terrible running game. The only reason Wells might do alright as a fantasy back is that he’s their only real option, and that counts for something when there are so many committee situations these days. But count on it, Wells will be the bottom rung of starting running backs.
watching the eagle steelers game.
I want to shoot my tv at joe bucks head after watching this game.
